Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Waskia now has newly renovated fresh rooms. We stayed in Junior Suite, 45sqm, with comfortable beds, sofa and dining table, double shower and sea views. Cot and potty we got on request.
For noisy and high pillows should be an alternative to...
The breakfast was quite ok, quite a lot to choose from although felt a little "old fashioned" with the selection and setup. There was a gluten-free station.
Had to borrow a wheelchair at reception to get to the bath, Tropiclandia, the inner road.
Child friendly hotel.A large playroom for different age children was available.

Good location by the sea. A lot of free parking places. Room with view to the sea. Nice with fridge in the room. The sofa bed is a bit small for two children aged 12 and 13. The shower had a good size. Friendly staff in the reception and the bar. We had a nice dinner in the restaurant but the service could be better (information about menu, taking empty plates, asking if the food is OK, glass was dirty).

A beautiful hotel with very friendly staff! The best thing is of course the beautiful, unique location on the island. The breakfast is very good and leaves almost nothing to be desired. What I particularly noticed here is that the tables are cleared and cleaned promptly without anything being taken away from you. The tables are cleared when the guest has left - very, very commendable. This is often not the case in other hotels. Due to the construction work, access to the rooms is only possible from a side entrance and only on foot, and only via narrow stairs and then, as in my case, a room on the 4th floor! That is almost unreasonable, especially since you have to let oncoming traffic pass on the stairs first. The stairs are steep, narrow and tight and probably only serve as an escape route. So, if you have problems walking here, you can only hope that there is a free room on the lower floors... Otherwise everything was perfect: the room was clean and warm, the view was very nice.

We had planned a romantic weekend with the husband, but we should have chosen a different hotel. The room really wasn't worth €135/night. An attempt at renovation had been made in the room itself, but they had forgotten to do something about the bathroom, which was in original condition and was 5 shades of green. The room was anything but cosy; the walls were completely empty and bare, there were no amenities whatsoever - no minibar, only a chair to sit on (which is sad when you live with two people in the room), not even a bench to put things on and the dust swirled in the knots and lay like a thick blanket on the plugs. The faucet in the toilet barely had any water coming out, just a small thin stream and the hair dryer was cracked, dirty and without a nozzle. The entire hotel corridor smelled of sewage and was very dirty. The sauna and the restaurant were out of order but the prices were still normal
The breakfast was the only plus, it was varied and served until 10.30 on the weekend. But many things were dry and out of stock when we arrived an hour before closing and the dishes were still on most of the tables so we had to start emptying the table we were supposed to sit at. The dining room was very uncomfortable with thick curtains drawn over the windows so you couldn't look out at the supposedly beautiful view. Probably won't be visiting this hotel again unless they make a noticeable improvement. However, a plus must be given to the friendly receptionist who fetched us an extra chair from an empty room when we asked for it.

Hotel smells old. The room was not clean enough, there was some dust in the room, tiles in the bathroom were dirty in some places, bathroom door lock didn't work properly. Bathroom tiling looks like cheapest possible option. Table surface was warped. Pink tiling around room doors in the corridor looks clumsy. Haven't seen any hotel in that bad condition before. Breakfast juice was diluted with water. Not all of the 4 star hotel services present. Room cleaner said "Oh sh..t!" while entering the neghbor room, it might be there was some reason for that, but staff should not swear in the hotel.

Dear Skitov, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that our hotel didn't meet your expectations. Some of the rooms have been renovated but not the whole hotel. We do sincerely apologize that the room lacked proper cleaning and we will talk this through with our housekeeping. Also, we agree on the fact about staff swearing. We appreciate your opinions and will take these development ideas into consideration when planning our future service and functions. Thank you for staying with us and have a nice autumn! Essentially Waskia may be a rather good hotel - calm, fairly modern and nicely located close to the water on the same island as the ferry terminal. BUT if you come to Waskia on a Sunday you´re going to have some trouble, at least if you happen to be hungry. Waskia actually has a restaurant, but it is closed on Sundays (without any notice on the website) and there are no other restaurants near by. The reception indeed can offer you sandwiches, softdrinks, beer or a small bottle of wine, but the prices are skyhigh and what you get is a bad excuse for a decent meal.

To add on to the bad experience the lady at the reception was enormousely uninterested in helping us sort out the problems.
.
So, you might have a good stay at Waskia - but never on a Sunday!

The room contained a broken floor lamp with exposed electical wiring. This lamp was connected to the wall outlet. This is completely unacceptable and the fact that this was a family room makes it even worse.

The lamp was removed from our room after we pointed this out. However, it shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Dear Daniel, thank you for the review. We are sorry that this happened and you are correct, the broken lamp should not have been there. Our sincerest apologies for this mistake. We have dealt this feedback right after it happened with our housekeeping and service staff to make sure that nothing like this occurs again in the future. Thank you for pointing this out and making sure that no one gets hurt. We can only wish that otherwise your stay in our hotel went fine. We appreciate your feedback and do our best to improve our service. Have a nice and sunny August! Best regards, Heidi, Front desk

Everything that could go wrong went wrong. We were checking-in in time but they made us wait for the room which was still in cleaning. Cleaning would go on for I don't know how long, but we got another room that was ready (I don't know why we didn't get that one in the first place). The room was a weird double room made by joining two rooms together. It had no dining table for example.

Tablet in the room was not working so I had to call a premium hotel number for room service. Bathrobes were the wrong size and quantity. Spa tickets are only included for one day even if you stay for multiple nights. This is shown only in a very small font and not in the first page of the room on the hotel's website. Slippers are not included in the room and are sold for 5 € a pair. There was loud banging noise from upstairs at night.

Vaasa itself was very grey at winter and all amenities were closed or reduced because of winter time and on weekends.

I wouldn't recommend for anyone as it wasn't even cheap. Never again.

Hello Timo, thank you very much for your feedback. We are sincerely sorry about the delay with the cleaning. This should not happen but unfortunately we were late with some rooms. We want to apologize also for the tablet, the noise and in general, about your stay not being as should be expected. We have gone through the feedback with different departments in our hotel as we want to improve our service and functions - and succeed in making our customers pleased. Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and once again, our apologies. We would like to wish you a nice winter and beginning of spring! Best regards, Päivikki, recepion

At first a warning to everyone who's planning to enjoy a spa holiday: tickets to Tropiclandia spa are NOT included to the room price as they are in other Scandic hotels in Finland. We were absolutely dissapointed and couldn't believe this... the room (which was REALLY old and had turqoise bathroom and not clean at all) costed 200€ per night. Our minibar was empty?! and the breakfast was unfortunately terrible and there was a long queue all the time for drinking point. We were really dissapointed. This was the last time in Scandic Waskia for our family.

Tropiclandia is a separate company so the tickets are not included in our prices. We do sell package with tickets though. We are very sorry that your room was not properly cleaned and that the breakfast had problems as well. Our sincerest apologies for these.
