Excellently situated for those who are visiting the University of Jyvaskylä Department of Physics. In addition, the hotel is just beside a beautiful lake. But the rooms are so tiny that they are definitely not suitable for claustrophobics. However, there was a pleasant surprise in the form of instant coffee available in the room - it was the best cup of instant coffee I have ever had.
The location of this hotel is perfect for relaxing after long days in a conference. The views over the lake if you choose to sit and enjoy them are stunning at any time of day. I also hired a bike one evening and enjoyed cycling around the lake in the late summer sunshine. The hotel has a good restaurant with a wide choice of fresh local food for breakfast and this is include din the room rate. I also enjoyed a tasty club sandwich with a nice glass of house wine one evening and it was good value. I had a simple basic room which had a good shower and a kettle and hairdryer were provided. The staff were very helpful and friendly and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
Overall the stay was without problems - comfortable, with decent wifi, a great breakfast, and all the needed additions. The room was very small - no room to move around, but nonetheless with bed, cabinets, separate bathroom (also small), desk and TV. The view over the lake is beautiful. The location is a bit outside of the downtown, but is directly across a pedestrian bridge to the university and a 15-20 minute walk to the downtown and the convention center along the shore of the lake (beware of rollerbladers and bikers). Breakfast was great, with the standard fare plus Finnish/Scandanavian foods like muesli and porridge. Vegetarian burgers seem to be a specialty in Finland, and the burger at the hotel restaurant was great.
Stayed here for two nights for the Finnish Air Force 100th Anniversary Air Show just up the road at Tikkakoski. We booked a junior suite which comes with a living area and a sauna off the bathroom. The lake view is amazing, we ate in the restaurant one evening which was very good. It's an easy walk along the lake front to the harbour and then turn left and walk into town. The second night we ate in town as the restaurant has a limited menu and we'd had tries the items that interested us. Breakfast choice was good but identical both days, also room cleanliness needs improving which is why it didn't get an excellent rating.
Medium sized, relatively modern hotel near the end of the big lake. Next to pedestrian bridge across the lake to the university. The place for visitors to the university to stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful, everyone speaks English, signs in Finnish and English. Medium sized rooms, excellent breakfast buffet. Sauna facilities (of course) but here you can actually jump into the lake from the hotel dock as part of the ritual. Separate hours for men and women are posted. The lobby, bar and restaurant all merge together so this area is usually busy. Not so much close by, its about a 20 minute walk along the lake shore to the train station and center of town.
