The place is on the main rd, people walking by, cars passing by, the quality of sleep wasnt that good, the rooms were good with good mattresses, the bathroom were communal which is a bit weird for those who are not used to it, the reception people were very friendly and supportive, there is a nice seating area in the reception, the WIFI was terrible in the rooms, and to connect you need to go to the reception and even yet it was still very slow.
In the pictures Laajis looks nice. You're lucky if you get one of those they've been upgrading for the promotion! I have no idea what kind of customers are normally staying there, because there were no others sleepers than workmen whom behave "in a special way." Everything ... I mean, everything is broken and DIRTY. Even in the rooms. How difficult it is to clean a wall if there is old coffee marks through the wall after the previous visitors (?) Needing wardrobe? Nope. Needing night lamp to read a book? No you don't. Room floor is damaged, that might be your fault. Beautiful landscape? Better to be lucky one! There is a shared bathroom and showers - in a same room. When you shower, you get a swimming-pool. If you are in the toilet, there is no lock on the door, or a toiletpaper, or a light. Next to the sink is a soap dish, of course, but without a soup in it. Pooping-peeing-showering: All 3 in 1. #noprivacy Laajis hostel has tens of rooms on two floors. And only one small kitchen with a extra small fridge, not forgetting that the kitchen is far from hygienic. - Because this is the worst hostel in Finland, everything just gets worse and worse. Regardless of how casual or how polite you are to some of the staff members at reception desk...They will be rude to you (customer service skills are not needed in this hostel's hiring program.) Wifi does not work in the rooms, but do not worry, you will have only one plug to use and that is located far from your bed. So it's the best to go to the common rooms to watch your movies or what ever. Breakfast is the last thing what could go ok, but this is not a happy place. No orange juice, no fruits, nothing fresh, no soft bread. One night stay is ok: to at least try the worst hostel ever. Otherwise it is not recommended to stay there the other night. I think even the staff is hating the place and that's why they are so grumpy and rude all the time!…
Stayed here for one night as part of an organised tour of Scandinavia in May 2014. First things first, the main entrance to this place is around the back (i.e. away from the main road) - a few of us kept trying to get in through the doors on the back and pushed the buzzers but weren't let in. Once you've got your keys you can get in this way. Someone in our group described this place as a former hospital - it isn't that bad but it is a bit basic. We had four bedroom room, with 4 single beds, enough room for luggage and plenty of shelves. The beds were good and the mattresses okay so we slept well. The communal bathrooms are alright - the showers in the guys' bathroom was a bit like a rugby / football shower (one big curtain to separate it from the sinks, then 2 shower heads). There's a big reception area with lots of seats - most of these were taken even when we were there because of the bike track out the back. The wifi worked well in here even with all the people and you can also buy food and drinks here. Being in Finland, there's the obligatory sauna in the basement - only one but they have set times for men and women to use it. The communal kitchen was a bit on the small side but we only needed it to wash up. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try the Frisbee Golf as it was too wet but the course looked pretty challenging.…
Despite the fact that Finland is a quite expensive country to visit, 51 euro for a single room is too much at this hotel for what you get. A small little room with not even the sheets being put on the duvet (hostel or not), shared bathroom - not very clean. A shared kitchen, that is so dirty and with not even a cup or a plate to use. The wifi is not working in the rooms and some of the staff was rude when asking about the wifi. The breakfast is ok and the scenery quite nice. For a one night stay its ok, but otherwise not.
We stayed overnight with stagnight coupe. Rooms were clean and big enough for accomadate 4 guys comfortably. The gasthaus crew was really friendly and breakfast was good bang for buck. If you are looking for a cheap but still cosy place to stay, wheter for business or leisure, i can recommend this place. When the city center hotels are full, this place might have rooms available. And it beats omenahotelli 100-0!
This hostel is in a great location and accessible by bus 25, but has some real issues. I arrived with a reservation at 7.45 pm at the end of August to find the whole place locked and a sign on the door saying it closes at 9pm and giving a number to ring. A security person arrived and checked me and another waiting person in and gave us our keys. This service cost an extra 20 Euros (plus VAT). When I made my reservation some weeks before I had advised that I would not be arriving until after 7pm. There are small clean kitchens on both floors with microwave, hotplates and an electric kettle but absolutely no cutlery or crockery. Most lights in the mens' bathroom did not work. The hot water was set at lukewarm, the soap dispenser in the shower was broken. The rooms are very prison cell-like and the beds to match. I'd say it was the worst mattress I have slept on in ten years of travelling - not because it was worn out but because it was so cheaply made. On the up-side the adequate breakfast was included in the price (as is usual) and the place was clean. The staff were chilly and disinterested, except for one young woman who did all the morning kitchen work (she was happy for me to borrow some cutlery and crockery for following nights). In this and other respects the place has gone downhill since two years ago. It is no cheaper than far better budget hotels in the city. Tip - bring your own eating equipment, arrive early and complain about the beds.…
