The hotel is one of many conference hotels built in 1980s in Finland. The architecture is the same in each one and after 40 years the brutalism of the building could be described as an interesting architectural style of its own. The place has so much potential on the inside! Maybe change the outdated carpets to hard wood flooring and the massive high school lunch hall where they serve breakfast to an airy modern breakfast lounge? But first and foremost, redo the air conditioning in rooms. Yes, we stayed during a heat wave, but still I woke up drowsy and with a sense that I didn't get air, which tells a story of urgent renovation need. At some point we just opened the door wide open to the hallway, because there the air con worked. The staff was very nice and they together with the spa area (my one year old loved it) should be accounted for all of the three stars given.

A hidden treasure we found after a friend's recommendation. Stayed in a luxurious Superior Plus room which was newly renovated. Lovely bed and a big plus for air conditioning. Nice playroom for children. Good spa area with various pools and sauna. Good breakfast. A hotel we like to return to. Got a room on floor 1 and the receptionist advised us to take down the stairs . Had luggage and a 4 year old child with me. Advice you can take down the stairs or use the elevator up ahead. Restaurang Little Italy. Had to wait for a table with a small child even though there were free tables, the staff did not pay attention to us. When we got a table I had to order the free drink for the child, no request what I wanted to drink. Had to wait for the food over 30min, others got food before us. Warned the staff about this and received in response apologies. Despite this no inquiry about what we wanted to drink with food, fetched himself the water decanter. Upon payment again excuses and offer of free dessert or reduction of the bill. The staff could have saved the situation at first sight. We had to pay less but we weren't looking for that. Wanted to eat well and have a nice time with my little daughter. Despite this, we will visit the hotel again for all the other positives outweigh bad restaurant visit. We may give the restaurant another chance. ❤️

Stayed several times on business trips. A good, quite peaceful location with superb outdoor sports possibilities all year. Also a nice spa with treatments etc.

My room needed renovation, you could see that the interior of the hotel was outdated and also the beds, tables, electric appliances etc. weren't the newest ones. It was also very hot in the room, no air conditioning but a window not possible to fully open. If you're lucky, you can find an electric fan in one of the closets in the room. That helped a lot.

There was no lunch available, but a small selection of salads and sandwiches at the reception. Later in the evening there was a decent á la carte.

Free parking, peaceful location, excellent outdoor activity selection, a good spa and helpful & polite staff make this a good place to stay. Once renovated, the hotel will be excellent.

Our room 343 was in the elevator lobby next to all the noise. The door to the stairwell always slammed when it closed against the structure of the wall where our room was also. All the traffic and sounds could be heard very clearly in our room, and it's a wonder when the light shines through the top and bottom cracks of the door quite briskly. For this reason, it was difficult to put the child to sleep, when you always noticed, for example, the door slamming in the stairwell. Shouldn't better insulation and sound insulation be taken into account in these? We don't think it's humane that the same price can be charged for rooms in these elevator lobbies as for rooms further along the corridors. These are two completely different things!

The trash in the rooms is shockingly small. The idea of recycling is absolutely perfect, but the implementation is currently quite poor.

In addition, many people seemed to bring, and we also brought food from other places to the hotel to eat in our own rooms, because the available options were unhelpfully too expensive, e.g. buffet. Add to this the possibilities of choices, and your money stays inside the hotel.

We stayed in a family room on a warm day. The room was extremely hot and the windows were locked. A ventilator was present but noisy and only moving the hot air around. Reception next morning shrugged off our complaints: oh! But we have a key for the windows.

The reception was not answering the phone on the day we arrived. The girl said she had not had the time to answer the phone because they were understaffed.

The Little Italy restaurant, in line with its name, served extremely small portions of good pasta. The strawberry dessert had no strawberries. The main course plates were never removed from the table, dessert was simply placed next to the empty plates.

On a more positive note, the kids got a nice welcome drink and liked the pool.

Dear 352fleurk Thank you for your visit to Scandic Laajavuori. I am sorry you got a bad experience in our hotel. We have been blessed with the summer weathers in Finland and unfortunately it has a huge effect to our rooms as we don't have the adjustable cooling system at the moment. I will forward your feedback also to our restaurant side. This has a lot to talk about in our next management meeting today and we take all the feedbacks very seriously. Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. That is the only way we can improve our services. I am very glad that you enjoyed the kids welcome drink and our pool are. Hopefully you will come and visit our hotel again in the near future. Kind regards, Aino Heikkilä Head Concierge / Front Office Manager Scandic Laajavuori

We went for christmas and we were there three days. Place is near nature and that was one reason to choose this place but staff didn't know area very well. Even this was "christmas" at hotel it didn't manage to take us to christmas feeling. Reseption staff was too busy or there were something else going. When we arrive there were some problems with room location and so but they mange it. There were no "christmas" at room, no decoration, no cookies, no nothing for to feel christmas at room. And there were other guests dirt in floor and windows were full of hand marks and so and when I tell this to reception they wasn't even sorry about that. Best part was staff at restaurant, they make you feel wanted and service was excellent even food didn't it. Like there were two different place were you were even we were in same hotel. And those three days I heard other customers complaining about cleaning whiteout any reaction at reception. When I went to see spa there were also some problems, two saunas was out of order and there were only one traditional sauna left to use. Any on there complaining reception was not sorry at all in any point. If you are at Jyväskylä or making trip there, there are many better hotel at that region.

Dear Pathfinder655222 Thank you for you stay at Scandic Laajavuori and thank you for taking the time to leave us your important feedback about our service. This is very valuable for us and will give me a big reason to have a serious staff meeting regarding these issues and feedbacks regarding our reception staff reactions. This makes me so sad as the service is always so caring and the most important thing in our hotel so there is a lot to discuss with my team. Without your feedback I wouldn't have this information so I am forever grateful for you for giving this information to me and at the same time deeply sorry what you have been going through. I hope you can send me email so I can make up your spoiled Christmas feeling in our hotel. I hope you will give us another change and will come again to Scandic Laajavuori. That would mean so much to our whole team in the hotel. Have a wonderful and better year 2022 and once again thank you for your time. Kind regards, Aino Heikkilä / Head Concierge Scandic Laajavuori aino.heikkila@scandichotels.com

We stayed here one night and I have to say I expect much more for the price. There were few good things but unfortunately I have to say the overall experience wasn't too good. It was the father's Day and I wanted to surprise my husband by bringing him and our kids to this supposedly nice hotel with a spa and different activities for the children. We planned to eat at the restaurant and go bowling but as we arrived, we were told that the restaurant was closed that night, they had only lunch and after that it went closed. Unfortunately, also the bar was closed so the only eating options was some chips or small snacks from the reception. This was the first disappointment. Then we noticed that also the indoor play area of the kids was closed (due to covid restrictions). I wonder why it is possible to keep open those kind of places in other places by sanitizing them but ok. The room was another disappointment. The room was clearly old and out dated and very hot. There was a lot of flies, alive and dead ones too. Also the room was not too clean and there was a broken lamp and under the sofa our kids found some part of some furniture which for sure wasn't supposed to be there! Ok, we decided to go to the spa (bowling was closed at 15 o'clock which is the time you can check in). The spa itself was fine but I'm truly amazed that even the sandals weren't included to the price but I had to pay extra 10€ from two pairs of slippers. All in all, the only good things were the spa and at least the breakfast was ok.
I did ask from the reception about the flies in our room but I was told that problem is in other rooms as well so that doesn't sound very good.
It's a shame because this hotel would have a lot of potential but it seems like nobody cares anymore...

We had previously bought a voucher which we used now. We got a room with a balcony as we were supposed to. The room was really hot. No air conditioning (had been overlooked when booking!). The balcony is not cleaned and the furniture is covered in bird poop. I had to keep the balcony door open all night and my allergies didn't like it. There was no soap at all in the shower. The cleanliness leaves much to be desired.
When we left, we shared our unpleasant comments. The hotel reportedly also had renovated air-conditioned rooms! So why did we get that? The equivalent would be around 50 euros and not more than half of what we paid. Maybe we are not wanted again??
The reception gave free cold drinks as a reward, thank you.

The rooms will surely need to decide soon whether you can and will preserve the original Alvar Aalto furnishings at all costs or have to bend and refurbish. Our view was great, the room large and the bathroom renovated. I was satisfied, especially with the knowledge of the origin of the furniture. I especially love the location and the really relaxed vibe of the facility. It has so many families and many Things to do for the children. The swimming pool is good and the sauna relaxing. Breakfast was good, although you can tell Scandic saves there. I would love to come back and stay a few days. Restaurant is Nix, we went out to dinner.

An old, dirty hotel with a tasteless and expensive dinner. The breakfast buffet in the morning looked good, but all the hot dishes were cold. I cannot recommend to anyone. Sad to see so many families spending their holidays here. There is also a "spa" here you can't even imagine how dirty and worn it is. Good thing is parking space - there was lot of space.., not wondering why
