Really good location, just a few minutes walk from combined train- and bus station. Also next to two shopping mall. Staff at reception was really friendly and helpful. We had a room for three person, it was not huge but still decent size. Bathroom was nice and renovated. Flat TV, no microwave or fridge in the room.

Friendly staff, central location and most of all very all this for a reasonable price. Rooms are clean and quite small but okay.
Only thing that could be a problem is the fact that the rooms are not very soundproof. Well, luckily nobody made too much noise that night.
I recommend - this hotel beats many chain hotels.

Milton Hotel in Jyväskylä is a good choice if you just sleep in the hotel for a couple of nights.

It is located just two blocks away from the pedestrian area, and two blocks away from the railway/bus station. The staff is friendly and there is a kind of no-nonsense feeling. The rooms are very small and very basic but everything is clean and well-kept. If you have a lot of clothes, there is not much space for unpacking.

There is no minibar in the rooms but you can find drinks and snack in the lobby bar. The hotel does not serve meals, either, but there are plenty of good restaurants just a few minutes walk away.

The WiFi-connection is good - and free, just remember to ask for the access code at the reception.

I stayed here for a whole week, so I have a pretty good idea about this hotel. Located near the train station close to downtown, it was a good hotel for my purposes. My business was at the university, which is ca. 20 min. way on foot. Big lobby, friendly staff. There was never any problem, they all speak English. Room on 2nd floor was fairly narrow, but for myself sufficient. It was always warm, so pleasant for the month of March. Bathroom was all good, the bed very comfortable, though a bit simple. The entire set-up seems like a youth hostel a bit improved for the single traveler. Flat tv in the room. No fridge, no radio, no microwave. Furniture a bit used already. Breakfast was included, but after 2 days I was already so tired of it. Every morning exactly the same. Hard boiled eggs, cheese, meats, a variety of breads, cereal, some fruit, a little yogurt, coffee, tea, juice, of course. Can I stand another breakfast tomorrow, not so sure. Walls are fairly thin, so when people watch tv, or snore at night, clearly noticeable. Otherwise, very quiet. Altogether, an ok hotel, with free wifi in the room. In the lobby, they have a computer, but they charge for the use. There is a sauna included, but I never had a chance to use it. Parking outside is plenty, if you come with a car. Staircase and hallway a little dirty, could need more cleaning.

Response from hotellimilton, Receptionist at Hotelli Milton

HI Albrecht C, thank you for your feedback. We are happy you stayed here for a whole week. We are glad to hear that the location was so convenient for your purposes and overall experience was quite good. We are sorry to hear that all the aspects did not meet expectations. Hopefully the breakfast did not leave you hungry though the selection was not as expected. In case there is a need, a microwave can be used at the reception and there are also kettles to be borrowed. Feedback is very important to us and we are open for suggestions how to improve our service, so thank you. You are warmly welcome again! Kind regards, Hotel Milton/ Sanna

I stayed one night in September. Hotel in well located right next to train station and busstation. It is small privately owned hotel so one cannot expect all the thing you get in bigger hotel. Staff was nice and helpful. Room was small but big enbough. I liked the fact that I had balcony. I would have used it if it was summer. Breakfast had all the necessary this, but not wide selection. Room didn't have minibar and sound proof was very bad. Soundproofing is actually my only complaint.

However. Price was good considering location and the fact that breakfast was included. You pay nearly the same in self service chains with no service and no breakfast.

After five years’ break, I returned to Hotel Milton where I have stayed numerous times in 2000-2010. Many things were still in place, good and bad.
Although the reception staff have changed over the years, the hotel has ALWAYS managed to hire extremely warm and friendly receptionists. The decor of the lobby is cosy, but the style reminds of the 90’s. The rooms are smallish, clean and refurbished in a simple manner, but some of the furniture are a bit worn.
All the rooms are on the second floor, and the noise from the busy street may disturb if you sleep lightly. The rooms have flatscreen tv, no fridge, no coffee maker, no minibar. There is a bar at the reception, though. The free wifi works.
The cold breakfast buffet is okay, and as far as I remember, has been almost identical for 17 years.
Due to many trade fairs and conferences, the price level of Jyväskylä hotels is higher than other tpwns of the same size in Finland. 85 euro for a single room on a weekday is still clearly less than a room in four-star chain hotels.
I agree with many reviews on this site: this is excellently located hotel with friendly staff and can fulfill travelers basic needs.

I have always found- and still find- this hotel quite charming in its own way. I believe this is for owners more than just a business. I just hope they would find the money and effort to update the hotel a little to keep the charm going.

Summary
+ Central location
+ Friedlly staff
+ Decent price-quality ratio
+ Free sauna
+ Homelike atmosphere in lobby and common areas
- Decor and breakfast buffet selection could do some updating
- Noise from the street (not always)

This hotel is good for those who just sleep at the hotel. The room had three full good beds and I really slept well. The hotel interior reminded an old ferry boat which used to sail between Finland and Sweden. The staff was nice and friendly. If I ever have thing to do in Jyväskylä, I would consider coming here again. Not luxury, but I did not miss anything either.

I stayed here for a day while travelling for work. The hotel is five minutes walk from the railway station. The room was clean and staff was friendly. However, it is not very modern compared to other hotels in Finland charging the same price.

Hotelli Milton (or Motelli Hilton as we called it) had very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are very need and clean and contain a bed, desk, two chairs, large television, cuboard for cloths and the best showers ever accountant for in a hotel. The rooms are cheap and the breakfast is fine. Because there is only one floor, they only noise you hear comes from a loud snoring neighbour or the parking lot in front of the building. Only on very windy evenings the sun screen can make weird noises.

Comfortable and warm room. The staff are friendly and smiling. Excellent location in the central area of Jyväskylä. They serve a good breakfast which gives a good start for the day. During the weekend nights, there was a little bit of noise from the street but anyhow managed to sleep well. I could stay there again.
