Perfect location, unless you want to stay right in the center of Kotka. Five minutes walk there, another five to Wellamo exhibition centre. 12 rooms, we had a standard one for two, sort of took us back a couple of decades, but in a good way. No complaints. The pub downstairs is nice (it's the reception as well), they have a good selection of local beers. Would go again.

Was it the luck I had a pretty clean, neat and cosy double room, or was it the warmth and unostentatious care of the staff that made my stay in Merikotka warm and convenient in that "Finnishly" cold beginning of May. Neither I expected much nor I missed a thing in the hotel: all was in, all was comfortable, cosy and clean. Good and clean bathroom, shampoo and shower gel available on the house; magically soothing and ergonomic bed with the pillow that must have been charmed to bring you to sleep immediately you put your head on it :)... The breakfasts were simple and tasty, the guests could use the microwave, toaster, kettle and dishes at their convenience; the room was cleaned daily. The young couple who ruled the hotel helped a lot at unexpectedly speedy change of my trip plans: I had full money back for one night off the hotel, was given plenty of time to wait inside for my bus after the check - out time had expiried, and they printed my flight tickets. The bar downstairs was fine and the "sea view" to the harbour was sooo calming :). The convenient paths to the town center to be mentioned and nice promenades across the harbour were so thought - conditioning too.

Location is ideal, just next to city center and free parking on the street. The room for two was spacious and clean, but somewhat outdated. The building and neighbourhood is perhaps the pretties in Kotka. The breakfast was very very basic, nothing wrong, but I would recommend to skip it and search a nice cafe from the city instead.

Came here because the Sokos was full. The room was clean but pretty basic and the beds not so comfortable. Breakfast at €10 was pretty sparse and I would not bother to be honest. Location was okay, about 5 min walk to the mall and supermarket. But would choose the Sokos any day.

The pictures from the website give feel of light and neatness. In reality there is less of both. The foreign colleague I booked to this hotel claimed there was mold in the bathroom. I was ashamed. It is a pity, because the hotel has potential, for example it is very well situated. They should call help from Gordon or Sukula!

Merikotka is situated in a beautiful, old building. Location is nice, next to the harbor but a short walk to the town center. Reception in the afternoon was in the downstairs pub and staff there was nice. A single room was... well, single room from the 90's. Bearable for one night, but nothing special to mention of. No wi-fi in the rooms, also the Sonera network had only 2G... so no netsurfing. At breakfast were only cold cutlets, bread, boiled eggs and cereal. Very basic. If you need only to sleep and don't expect anything fancy, this might be a good place for you. Free parking on the street.

As a budget option this cannot be beaten. I have stayed here several times. The room is fine with a decent en suite and TV channels. It's clean and comfortable. Breakfast is copious but not particularly varied as one would expect in this price range. I love the position of the hotel right on a harbour and have had great times at different seasons of the year looking at the old ships and simply exploring. The Sculpture Promenade starts right near the hotel with weird huge ant sculptures and some more of second world war figures. It's a really interesting walk down into town. I'd recommend this as a budget choice for those who don't want to stay in a large chain hotel.

Hotel Merikotka is situated in a convenient place near the harbour. New naval museum Vellamo is only few hundred meter away (worth visiting). Also the center of the town is at walking distance. There was no problem to find parking place. Hotel is in the second floor of an old (1910) building, and reception is either there, or at the pub besides the hotel entry at street level. There is also a rather famous old sailor restaurant Kairo pretty near hotel building. Room was ok, nothing peculiar, just basics, a bit worn though, but clean. The breakfast was served in a breakfast room situated at same floor. Price was maybe a bit overrated.

And we know what Picturesque means don't we.... shabby in short. and so was this. The building is old and has its charm, little old details in the hotel also add to charm. the bathroom is rustic and very bare minimum. same for the room itself with its cheap crappy furniture. the breakfast was... well it was. and there is no elevator. for the price: I can live with it. I also think it is completely run by one couple with no employees. as the cleaning lady, the reception desk and the girl doing the breakfast were the same. ;)

It looks nice from the outside but is a disappointment inside. Airless, musty, tiny room and even tinier bathroom. Beds were narrow but otherwise ok. Breakfast was very plain. It cost only a couple of euros more to stay in Seurahovi in Porvoo (see review) and difference of standard and quality was more like 50 euros.
