I was not sure of what I would be doing in Kotka, considering I had to cancel my Reykjavik vacation. It was quite by chance I booked this hotel, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience. Minna (I hope I got your name right) arranged to have me picked up at Kotka railway station, so I didn't have to change buses to get to the hotel. The hotel itself is a 100 year old wooden building in excellent condition. Located right on the sea, it has beautiful views. Don't be fooled by "common bathrooms" that you see when booking your stay. The bathrooms and toilets (yes 2 bathroomS and 2 toiletS) are very large and very clean. The hotel has a sauna which the hosts will prepare for guests if requested, it takes about 8 hours of "preheating". The ever cheerful Jana will have a heavenly breakfast ready by 9, which one can have while gazing out into the backwaters. The hotel has a row boat which guests can take out to sea and indulge in a spot of fishing if they so want. The property also has a pair of swans raising their brood. Never for once did I get the sterile aseptic feeling one gets in hotels. Jarno, Minna, Saari and Jana go to great lengths and make every effort to make guests feel at home. Jarno is great with suggestions for short day trips in and around Kotka, if one doesn't have lot planned. And as a final gesture, Minna drove me to the bus station so I didn't have to bother myself with getting a bus to get to the bus station. I would rate Karkisaari B&B among my best stays in terms of location, comfort, food, recreational facilities, value for money and most importantly the wonderful folks who run the place.

Lovely 100 year old wooden Villa by the sea. Bed & breakfast, sauna&swim. Great service! Less than 2 hours from Helsinki to the east. Suitable for families with children, romantic get away, peace of mind for people travelling alone. Highly recomended!

What an amazing place! The surroundings are one in a million. I could spend a lifetime here watching the stunning nature around us. And the Villa is a cultural heritage in itself, with the amazing sauna, the festive halls and the art deco fireplaces. They also have a piano that they invite you to play if you feel for it. And traditional Kalevala body therapy is available. :) The owners are true enthusiasts and make you feel like part of the family. I recommend you go NOW. You will be coming back, again and again.

This Villa at Kotka is rated B&B but definitely the way they take care of you and the beautiful surroundings makes this place a boutique feeling hotel. The food is great here, the service, the views, the sauna that they heat for you. Absolutely place to go with family, bigger group or like me - looking for quite time on my own for 24 hours. Please see my pictures - they tell more than my review.

This is a amazing setting with basic but clean accomodation. We stayed with friends (4 adults and 2 Kids) we had a great time. We got Pizza delivered and we asked for the sauna to be ready at 7pm and sure enough it was. Didn't see any staff until the morning for a well laid breakfast. Wasn't a problem for us, it was like staying in our own private country house on the Baltic sea - which didn't taste of salt - strange. No real curtains so woke early.
