This is by far the nicest place I have stayed in Helsinki for under 100 euros a night. These apartments are spacious, comfortable, sunny and quiet. The neighborhood, near the port and the Uspensky Cathedral, is one of the most attractive in Helsinki and provides easy access to anywhere you want to go. The owner is delightful and full of helpful information. If you have any special requests during your stay, you can count on her to respond quickly. The kitchen is well equipped and was stocked with REAL coffee, tea, salt, sugar, oil and vinegar, etc.: a rarity in these aparthotels! The place has a real oven, an iron, vacuum cleaner, washing machine and even a dishwasher! The only disadvantage is the bathroom: small and really not nice. This could be due to the draconian rules governing the renovation of such "historic" buildings. Highly recommended!

Helsinki is a big city and you can often experience big cities in the different ways. MY favourite Helsinki is located on Katajanokka peninsula, just foot steps away from city centre. Far enough, not to be the tourist trap and close enough to prefer it for the comfy stay in downtown.

It's sophisticated - upscale area with the fairy-tale architecture, as most of the houses are from the Jugend-style (Art Noveau). Lot's on decorations, unusual shapes, hidden alcoves and penthouses make you want to walk around in the evening with a desire to peek inside from the large windows. Downstairs of the houses are full of tiny private businesses, starting from the tattoo salon and ending with the teddy-bear hospital.

If ever planning to stay in Helsinki and you are not a dedicated hotel type of a person - try out my favourite accommodation in town: Essexhome Apartments.

A very nice lady called Seija owns 8 especially charming, cosy and homy apartments in the historical Jugend-building. She lives downstairs herself and is very friendly and helpful with guests coming to stay in her property. I have staid so far in 4 different apartments and I have loved every one of them. The way the rooms are planned and designed, is making them a little more than just any rental apartment, you feel like at home.

I also love the fact of the local grocery store in the corner, run by the guy from Sicily, who has a little coffee shop in the other side of street. I like the seaside walking boulevard. Nepali Restaurant downstairs and my latest discovery - hidden little pearl of gourmet - Restaurant Wellamo, located nearby the apartments!

Our stay in Helsinki was great, not only because it is a lovely city, but also because our accommodation was great. The Essexhome apartment we stayed in was perfect and the lady was really helpful. And it was quite 'cheap' as well, considering you are in a nice neighbourhood very close the centre of Helsinki. I don't know what else to add, fully deserved 5 stars!!

We stayed in of the Essexhome apartments at Luotsikatu 3 for 2 nights and I really appreciated it - lovely stylish place, comfortable and quiet. Very good location - on the island built up in art-deco style, in walking distance to the city center. There is a supermarket nearby and some cafe and restaurants. I definitely will stay at one of Essexhome apartments next visit to Helsinki and recommend them to my friends.

Lovely apartment, well designed, light and airy with everything we needed. On a small island just off from the main areas of Helsinki (easily reached on foot, very convenient, very close to Uspenski Cathedral), quiet area, apartment in residential block in beautiful art nouveau building - i.e. best of both worlds. An apartment is a good choice in Helsinki as meals that in the UK might cost around £75-80 will cost about €120. We ate in for a couple of nights and there is a supermarket a few minutes away that sells lovely, lardy Finnish pastries and a reasonably wide range of food (and beer!). Seija, who manages the Essexhome apartments, could not have been more helpful. Really pleased, good price and lovely apartment.

I stayed four nights and just loved this apartment. It is situated in a beautiful neighbourhood, in an older style art deco building. But don't be frightened by the term older style; everything in the apartment works well, the kitchen is fully set up for sea catering (important in a place as expensive as Helsinki) and there is a lift, so no dragging heavy suitcases up flights of stairs. The apartment is within walking distance of the harbour front, a good supermarket, heaps of bars and restaurants and all the tourist operators.

Communication with the host was excellent. I had no cause to contact her during my stay, but based on her welcome, I am sure there would not have been any problems.

I really enjoyed my stay at Essexhome apartments.

Stayed for 3 nights and loved the apartment. Apart from the tiny bathroom with leaky shower screen we couldn't fault it. Comfortable, tastefully furnished, lovely friendly host, well-equipped and a beautiful view of the harbour.
Best thing is the location. Safe and quiet but only 4 minutes walk from Allas Sea Pool (well worth half a day if it's warm) and the start of the heart of the city.
Helsinki is a nice city, also, but very expensive for food and drink. We would definitely recommend the apartment if you can afford Helsinki though.

We spent 5 nights in April in a one-bedroom apartment "with sea view" and loved every minute of our stay. The view looked out over the harbor. In summer, it would be a lively scene with many boats. Even in the off season, it was fun to see some boats chugging past. These are NOT the huge cruise ships that dock on the other side of the island--just pleasure boats, plus the awesome ice breaking boats that dock a little farther down the shore. The apartment was large, clean, bright and airy, with nice furnishings and pretty decor. We heard absolutely no sounds from neighbors or the street outside. The lovely owner responded immediately to email questions and was there to greet us. There's a combination washer/dryer which we did not use. The fully stocked kitchen included a dishwasher--and detergent for it! Also there were common cooking staples like oil and spices, so to put together a meal we just walked a few minutes to the supermarket, open until 11pm. The residential neighborhood is lovely and quiet, with beautiful Art Nouveau buildings. Tram 4 stops a couple of short blocks away, and whisked us to the compact center of Helsinki in a few minutes. It was also an easy pretty walk, maybe 20 scenic minutes. A lovely place to stay!

Just returned from a 4 night stay here and loved it. From the initial introduction from Seija it was clear we made a great choice. Lovely location amongst the Art Deco buildings and only a few minutes walk from the number 4 tram which goes within a 100 metres of the central station. It is only a pleasurable 10 minute walk to the harbour centre.
The accommodation has a new lift which is just as well as humping the suitcases up 3 flights of stairs would have been a chore, but easy with a lift. It is amazingly quiet even with the windows open at night. The shower is great with plenty of pressure and all other facilities you would expect are available including iron and board, washing machine and dishwasher.
Big rooms with high ceilings and comfy bed.
Lovely Nepalese restaurant right opposite and you get 15% off voucher from apartment. Would definitely recommend and will stay there again if visiting this beautiful city again

Stayed here for 5 days. The Lotsgatan location is excellent - close to the port, the public sauna, tram (line 4), ferries and many cafes & restaurants. The apartment is modern, sunny with all the amenities (including washer + drying rack). Professionally run.
