Although the reception and main entrance don´t create a great first impression and the walls are so far from being soundproof that it is easy to hear what´s happening in other rooms, the room we stayed in was very good for a 2/2.5 star hotel due to the following reasons:

1) The room was clean and had plenty of space
2) Our room (doesn´t apply to all) had a view to the pedestrian street
3) The bathroom floor-heater makes it very comfortable to walk in there and the bathroom fan is always on to compensate for the lack of windows in that room.
4) We had to go through two locked doors before reaching our room, which makes things safer considering that the building is shared with other businesses.

Also, the hotel is well located as it is close to the train station, some of Helsinki´s most important landmarks and it is also surrounded by shopping malls and restaurants.

Dear Odon S, thank you for your detailed review. We are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. We can agree that our entrance and reception aren't the fanciest ones, but we think that the inside matters most, and we're happy to find that you seem to agree with us. Thank you for your feedback regarding the positive issues: location, cleanliness, space, heated floor and security, but also for the less positive one: soundproofing. We've recently changed all of our rooms' doors and windows into new ones with improved soundproofing, but we can agree that there is still room for improvement what comes to soundproofing between the rooms. We sincerely hope, that this didn't cause you too much inconvenience and this will be the next thing to be improved. Thank you very much for staying with us and warmly welcome again! Have a nice November! Yours, Lauri / Hotel Finn

One of our sons is a grad student in Helsinki. My wife and I and our other adult son visited him. We booked Hotei Finn for the first week of our trip. Frankly, I was nervous because of the mixed reviews, but the price was right so we decided to take a chance. What a great choice this has been. From the airport, you take the train to its final stop, walk 5 minutes, and you are at the hotel. It is close to everything. If exploring the city is your goal, this is a wonderful home base. It is very reasonably priced. Nothing is cheap in Helsinki, but Hotel Finn will not break the bank, but book as early as you can (it has a fair cancelation policy). The hotel is the top two floors of an office building. The building is quaint, and the elevator is incredibly small. You check in on the 6th floor where there is a small reception area -- there is no lobby. The rooms are down a hallway (a lot like a dorm). The hotel staff are very friendly and speak English like natives. We called ahead to say we were getting in early and would there be a place to store our luggage. They made a special point to have our room ready for us (though they will store your luggage also if needed). Everything is small, like an inexpensive NYC hotel. Free coffee and tea, but no other amenities. This is not a place you will hang out. The room has a small/ private bathroom. The soap they supplied was microsized, so pack a bar in your suitcase. All three of us stayed in one room -- three single beds. There is no closet, but there are shelves, a desk, and places to hang clothes. No onsite restaurant, but you can walk a couple of blocks to a variety of coffee shops and restaurants. Stockman's (think Macy's) is two blocks away. Kampi, a large, modern shopping mall, is the metro and bus hub -- 3 blocks away. Market Square, museums, the design district -- everything is footsteps away. At the street level, right outside the hotel building's door, are bars and restaurants, which are noisy over the weekend, and you can hear the streetcar/tram squeaky and squealing when the room window is open. This is not a quiet place, but you feel like you part of the city.

Overall a good value for the price, given the location, the room decoration and the wifi (no foreign channels on the TV, bring you tablet). But quite not conventional regarding the complete setup. You enter a building with offices, in a clumsy hallway, go to the sixth floor in an old wooden elevator and find the reception. Helpful and smiling staff. You get your magnetic cards, and then you have the feeling not being in a hotel anymore but having rent your home in Helsinki, as it is like the service stops here. I personally like that, certainly when I travel alone, but some people might not like it. For instance, no staff at all during the night... And regarding the breakfast, there are plenty of super places in the neighbourhood. I would go back if I return to Helsinki alone, but probably not if I'm accompanied.

We recently spent two nights at the Hotel Finn and could not have been more pleased. This was my third trip to Helsinki and each time I have stayed at the Finn, and each time it has gotten better. This time my wife, 12 year old son and I stayed in a family room which met our needs perfectly. The room had a queen bed and a single for our son, had a very funky décor, good Wi-Fi, excellent English options of the television, a nice bathroom and was extremely clean. The location is unrivaled, the front desk personnel very helpful and they have some excellent, free coffee in the lobby. A breakfast buffet is available at a restaurant a couple of doors down at a reduced price and is more than ample. This is also one of the least expensive places to stay in town. My advice to the management: Just keep doing what you are doing!

The room that I had chosen was just too small for the 2 of us. The bathroom was the size of a closet. A small closet, Couldn't change rooms as they were fully booked. The location is superb. They don't serve breakfast, but the place next door was a fantastic place for breakfast. You can walk to this place from the railway station. You can also walk to the harbor area where there is a open market with small shops along the way. The city trumped the room, so all was good. Also found a great restaurant. That's the next review.

We stayed at the Hotel Finn for 3 nights. As others have noted, entrance to the hotel is a little off putting- the outdoor entrance way is used by smokers from all the adjacent bars- and once you have fought your way through the smoke you are faced with an ancient, tiny but well functioning lift to get to the reception on the 6th floor. After that all is well, the room and bathroom are small but functional, cleaning is optional. The staff are helpful and attended immediately to a problem we had with the shower tap. We were at the back of the building and it was quiet at night- but not early in the morning when the renovation workers started for the day! The location probably can't be beaten for the price.

I liked this hotel. Room is quiet, clean, small but cozy. Everything you need in the room is. Staff are friendly, coffee, tea at the reception, even a kettle in the room. 2 minutes before the Stockmann and trams, near pool. For 2-3 nights is very good. А pleasant combination of price, quality and location.

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend visit to Helsinki, and loved it's location. The hotel is on the top floors in a very lively street, with bars and restaurants. The reception has limited opening hours. Since our flight arrived late, we called them a couple of days before and they send us an email with all the necessary information of how to get to our room, The train central station and the bus terminal are very close by, and after a short walk through the Esplanadi, one reaches the Market square (with food and shops) and the south Harbour where one can get the ferry to Suomenlinna islands. We had a wonderfiul weekend!

I visited Finland for the Month of April on a business trip. I had the pleasure of checking in to Hotel Finn at the beginning and end of my Trip! two nights on arrival and another two before i left! The Hotel is located on the 5th and 6th floors of an old building in central Helsinki, in walking distance to everything one could need. only a few minutes walk from the Central Station. The ferry terminals are also within easy walking distance and so are many main tourist attractions. There are no Coffee or Tea making facilities in the room but available at the front desk. Reception staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not provided however you get discount at the Killa food & bar on he street corner if you present your door key card.Rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable. There are countless bars and restaurants in the area with an awesome alternative bar directly next to the hotel entrance called Bar base! and a beer house directly opposite. Overall great stay and would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!

This is my usual choice when coming to Helsinki for one of my visits. No fuss, but a clean room, friendly young people, comfortable beds and a shower. No breakfast room, but special rates at two next-door places. And right in the center of the city. For a single person or a couple, ideal location and very affordable.

You can either take the trams or walk in 25-30 minutes :-) it's a nice walk as you will also pass the tourist centre where you can get the city pass or transport card
Answer from Ville H
Helsinki, Finland
Hi! From the airport there are four different transportation options: P-train, 30min (+10 min walking), ticket 5,50€ Finnair Shuttle bus, 30min (+10min walking), ticket 6,30€ Public transport bus 615, 45-60min (+10min walking), ticket 5,50€ Taxi 25-30min, 40-55€ Both bus tickets could be bought from the driver. Both buses and the train terminates to the Helsinki Central railway station (Rautatieasema/Elielinaukio) which is less than ten minute walk away from the hotel (see the map). Usually there are always taxis waiting in front of the terminal. You can tell the driver address Kalevankatu 3B, Hotelli Finn.
