Location, location, location and good value are the best elements of this quirky little hotel. We were able to stay four (2 adults, two teens) in a room. The room was quite spacious, decorated dormitory style (single beds) with mismatched beds, towels and sheets. It had a huge window overlooking a quiet street. The full bath & shower was a tiny closet with a curtain separating the shower. With a sense of adventure (and humor) it was fun, funny and actually comfortable.
The staff was very helpful and friendly (called a car to the airport, held our luggage when we went for 4 day trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, found my husband an emergency dentist, recommended Stockmann's for all our snacking needs). True the room was not the cleanest but the cleaning staff was sweet and friendly and gave us extra towels and pillows. The standard is not to change the sheets or towels daily.
Theh hotel was perfectly situated for everything from the rail station, bus station, Stockmann's, great restaurants, and shopping.

Hello, Thank you for the review. We have upped the standards with the beddings and towels a lot since your stay. Customers staying for more then one night can now easily choose how often their bedding and towels are changed. Also our cleaning personnel has completely changed since your stay. They are still sweet and helpful, but now the rooms also are spotless. Best Regards, Tio Hotel Manager

I was looking for a hotel to stay for one night during the World Athletics Championship and Hotelli Finn was the only one with available rooms. I was on my own but booked a double room. Even so, it was MUCH cheaper (75 euros) than all the others I came across.

I arrived by train and it was just a five minute walk from the central train station. The location was PERFECT. Apart from saving money, I was also saving time and energy as everything was close by.

I would strongly recommend this small hotel for a short stay; preferably a room with en suite shower. The common shower I had to use was not very clean. Luckily, I had a private toilet and wash-basin. The bed sheets and towels had also a weird smell. I was actually wondering if I was the first person to use them... If you have space in your luggage, do take a towel with you!

Despite all the problems, I would use again. It's cheap in a town where everything is expensive and it couldn't be more central.

Hello, Thank you for your review. All the bed sheets and towels have since your stay been changed for completely new ones already many times. We strive towards keeping their quality top notch, so in the future smelling sheets or bad towels are not going to be found in this hotel. We are also building showers in all of the rooms along with the other renovations so soon all rooms will be en-suite :) Best Regards, Tio Hotel Manager

This is a perfectly acceptable, cheap hotel and the location is really good: it's just metres from the main street and very close to galleries, shops etc. You take a tiny old-fashioned lift up to the sixth floor, where the reception and most of the rooms are. Rooms are spacious and adequate, though kind of grungy and brown - it's almost charming. Our room had a bathroom with a wonderful brown half-bath - it was half the length of a regular tub but deeper, with a little seat in it.

There's no restaurant, but they'll serve breakfast in break for €6. On a Sunday this is a good idea, because nothing in Helsinki seem to open before eleven on Sundays, so you won't find breakfast anywhere else.

If you get a room on the sixth floor on the same side of the hall as the reception, you can use nextdoor's open wireless network if you put your computer in the windowsill. Or you could in August 2004.

And the bar downstairs was really awesome on Saturday night. Very strange Finns. It was kind of dull other nights, so maybe this was a special Saturday thing.

Hello, Thank you for the review. A lot of things have changed since your visit :) We do have the whole hotel covered with a free high-speed WiFi-connection, so no need for any balancing on the windowsill anymore. We are also building a breakfast area to the hotel, where we can also serve some small snacks during the rest of the day. You can still get the breakfasts to the room (after the kitchen is finished) if you like. Best Regards, Tio Hotel Manager

In a city where everything is quite expensive, Hotelli Finn really stands out with its reasonable prices. Once you get yourself situated in town you'll realize how incredibly central this place is. Stockmann's, the biggest department store in Finland, is just down the street and sells everything from the typical stuff to groceries - there's a restaurant there too. The harbor is only several minutes' walk away, and the train station is even closer. The buldings and shops in the Design District start a couple of minutes away. I'll agree with the other reviews that the hotel wasn't spotless, but it was cleaner than I would've imagined after reading these other reviews. The staff was very helpful with directions and watching a bag of ours while we were in St. Petersburg. I would not hesitate to use this place again!

Very friendly owner, and good value. The room was quite large, and comfortable, but had an eccentric, though useable bathroom. Some rooms are not en suite, so are even cheaper. It is very central, near Stockman's Department store. Would use again.

Unusual hotel in central Helsinki that is very reasonably priced compared to many others. Close to raliway station (where you can get a good breakfast) bus routes, shops and reataurants. Great if you are in the city for a short stay and don't want to pay for luxurious accommodation.

I've rated this hotel average. Depends what you class as average. For a backpacker it is average. For a business person or family perhaps not so average. If you are not going to be in the room most of the time and are just using it for sleeping basically its perfect because its cheap ('helsinki' cheap) and very central. The rooms are small with small single beds. The bathroom was a small, discheveled affair but worked adequately. There was a television but reception was intermittent. The day staff were excellent - very helpful. The nightstaff were surly, unhelpful characters - but given the cost of the hotel room they were probably on minimum wage for Helsinki so I don't blame them. BTW if you are getting a room I would recommend the en suite for an extra E10.

I stayed here for three nights (E65 per night for en suite room) and then on my last night moved to a Cumulus hotel (hotel chain with standard room layout) a few streets away for an extra E20 for a bit of extra comfort on my final night. The difference for only E20 was noticeable (breakfast included, sauna, satellite tv etc) but I suppose it depends what you wish to spend.

Hello, Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you have received such treatment at the hotel. The entire staff has changed since your visit so even the night-receptionists are now smiling and helpful. We are also renovating all the bathrooms (along with all the rooms themselves) so there will be no problems with them in the future. We also have satellite tv coming up so you will be able to see all the foreign channels in the future. Best Regards, Tio Hotel Manager

Hotelli Finn - Kalevankatu 3 B, Helsinki 00100, Finland - nightmare in Finland - do not visit if you want to sleep at night! My visit to Helsinki to run a marathon in August 2013 was ruined by this disgusting hostel (it is not a hotel!), teenagers were going wild all over the place after midnight, impossible to sleep, even with ear foam, reception not manned at night, security guard when finally turned up over an hour after being called, told me that this is what Finnish people do and that if I wanted to sleep at night I should have gone to a much more expensive hotel. TV was broken, breakfast was awful. As a comparison, for the same price (around 80 Euro/per night) I stayed in lovely, even elegant central hotels in Copenhagen and Stockholm with fantastic generous breakfast and great service. Hotel Finn is of the most unpleasant hostels I've ever had the misfortune of staying in.

Location is extremely central - you can walk anywhere, but rooms are on the small side (extremely small...), and not very clean (beer bottle caps under the bed, nasty looking bedcovers...). They could do with a little clean-up.

You can either take the trams or walk in 25-30 minutes :-) it's a nice walk as you will also pass the tourist centre where you can get the city pass or transport card
Answer from Ville H

Hi! From the airport there are four different transportation options: P-train, 30min (+10 min walking), ticket 5,50€ Finnair Shuttle bus, 30min (+10min walking), ticket 6,30€ Public transport bus 615, 45-60min (+10min walking), ticket 5,50€ Taxi 25-30min, 40-55€ Both bus tickets could be bought from the driver. Both buses and the train terminates to the Helsinki Central railway station (Rautatieasema/Elielinaukio) which is less than ten minute walk away from the hotel (see the map). Usually there are always taxis waiting in front of the terminal. You can tell the driver address Kalevankatu 3B, Hotelli Finn.
