Just back from a weekend in Helsinki where we stayed at this Hilton. Usual high standard that comes with the Hilton brand. Very well stocked executive lounge during happy hour 6pm-8pm. Great atmosphere all round the hotel with plenty of seating areas in the lobby/bar. All the sights are in walking distance. Would stay again if ever we found ourselves back in Helsinki
The staff and the customer arrive at this hotel were so great! We were horrified by a noise coming from our air conditioner on our first night but the hotel staff fixed it ASAP, despite the mechanic not being onsite, which really impressed me. The front desk was so nice and accommodating, and gave away free masks as well as allowed us to both check in early and check out late. The restaurant is really good (pizza and other standard Nordic dishes) and the rooftop pool/sauna area was really beautiful and retro. Where we were truly blown away was the breakfast and executive lounge happy hour… tons of choices, very tasty and generous. We also appreciated the well stocked minibar!
Everything was ok. The rooms are relatively nice and so is the lobby. You can see the age of the building here and there, for example in the elevators. As a Finn I found the hotel sauna a disgrace. In general I don't think this was any worse than any other basic hotel in Helsinki, but definitely not any better either. I can recommend this if you compare it to Scandic or Sokos hotels in Helsinki.
I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could but rounding down to 3. Why? Rooms are pretty big, lobby is very nice, service is generally pretty good, but the executive loung is closed, the restaurant is not open all day, and the hours they post for it and the bar are basically false. (They say 11pm but last food orders go in at 10pm and last drinks around 1020pm.) So good luck eating if you want a late lunch around 3pm or you arrive late (as I did) and want dinner. (Luckily when asked the front desk said, "order quick, last orders in 10m" so I was able to eat.) It's also pretty dated. While they've done their best to keep the lobby fresh, the getting design, the fixtures, the elevators, all were really cool in maybe 1990. Nowadays, more dated than cool. The breakfast buffet is mediocre and because there is no executive lounge you can't just run into the lounge for breakfast (probably the single biggest perk). The food was amazingly inconsistent: one day the eggs were firm, the next not, the bacon dark one day, barely cooked the next, ditto for the sausages. Grossest thing here was opening the minibar and almost drinking a red wine before realizing it was already opened and put back in half full. Ick. I had a suite and the other rooms minibar door was not properly closed so everything was warm.…
I had incessant that I did break item in the hotel. I was ready to pay for it and the insurance told me they that going to handle it with them. Anyways the hotel forced to pay me, to this day I did not get any papers from them. Charging for 7 years old item full price. This is rip off.
We always return to this hotel for a staycation as we always feel welcomed by all members of staff especially the reception staff who are always attentive. We are always recognised as Hilton gold members and usually get a room upgrade to the next category. The hotel is always spotlessly clean. The rooms feel fresh and the facilities such as the sauna, the gym and the pool are extremely well maintained. You will never go hungry at breakfast time as the variety of food is extensive and delicious. The lounge during the happy hour also caters enough food should you wish not to eat a heavy meal and it’s worth sometimes paying for the executive room to guarantee access to the executive lounge. The hotel itself is about a 10 minute walk from the main attractions and there are lots of nice walks from the hotel. You really can’t fault this hotel and we will return again in the future.…
We have been staying at the Strand for at least the last 15 years, usually 2-3 times a year so we know the hotel and a lot of the staff well. After a hiatus, due to Covid, we returned last month. It was like we had never been away! We are always treated like family and we love this hotel. Rooms and beds are comfortable, good showers, and very nice breakfast. But what makes this hotel is the staff. They are the best! We also like the location, next to Hakaniemi Market, 10-15 min walk to Esplanade and the train station for direct connection to the airport. We didn't try the restaurant this time but the 'new' menu looks really good so it will be on our list for our next visit.
If only all Hilton's could be like this. Brilliant experience for all 7 people and the 3 rooms we booked for our party. I would not hesitate to stay again, in fact I had the same experience in 2019. Thank you.
The hotel is in a decent location about a 10-15 minute walk to Senate Square and the main sights of Helsinki. My room was comfortable and stay enjoyable. The only hiccup - the hotel’s keycard system was down on the day of departure. To check out of the hotel and store my luggage (which normally should take about 2 minutes), turned into a 35 minute wait. While things happen and we can all be understanding, the woman at the front was quite rude to me when it was finally my turn, and very rude when I returned to claim my baggage. It was unnecessary. I understand she was likely stressed, but I’m sure everyone else was also stressed. Other than that minor checkout delay, it was a good stay and I’d recommend this property if you are a Hilton member.
Excellent hotel. Clean and comfortable spacious rooms. Staff very helpful. Approx 10 mins walk from city centre and well connected by bus. Buffet breakfast has fantastic choice and is available until 11am at weekends. Hotel lobby and bar are lovely, stylish and comfortable. Will return.
