The hotel is located in a beautiful warehouse building from the early 1900s, and features plus-sized rooms and modern meeting facilities. The large arched windows and high ceilings create a spacious and bright atmosphere in the restaurant and bar. During the summertime, guests can also enjoy our large terrace. In addition to the hotel's own meeting facilities, the adjacent Marina Congress Center offers settings for events and functions of up to 2,500 people. There is plenty of parking space just outside the hotel and in the garage. The hotel offers WiFi, a gym, a sauna, and a 24-hour shop. You can borrow a bicycle or sticks for Nordic walking from the reception. Close to the Helsinki city centre, the hotel is located by the sea in idyllic Kajanokka next to the Market Square, Uspenski Cathedral, and the Helsinki SkyWheel. The hotel offers an excellent starting point to see the sights, spend some time shopping or enjoy the restaurants and nightlife of the city.

Nestled in a prime spot, the Scandic Grand Marina is lauded for its proximity to key attractions and the harbor, although the nearby ferry noise can be a drawback for some. Guests have mixed feelings about the value, balancing reasonable rates against varying opinions on quality and amenities.
The hotel's atmosphere and extensive breakfast earn praise, yet there's a call for updated rooms and more consistent cleanliness. Friendly staff members are frequently mentioned, though the need for modern amenities like in-room kettles is apparent.

Having stayed in a Scandic hotel in Norway in July i knew what to expect form the rooms, so was not disappointed. Staff were very helpful and friendly, spoke excellent English. Ate twice in the restaurant in the evening and though the menu is relativley short, there is enough choice and the chef even discussed with my work collegue how he would cook his dish so as to avoid his allergies. Prices were more reasonable than i expected and the food is well presented and very tasty. Definitely try the local beers on offer. The breakfast buffet is staggering for its choice to suit all tastes and cuisines. The location is only 5 minutes from the main harbour front and not far from the attractions. Be aware that it islocated near the ferry terminal so you do get a lot of lorry/truck activity when they are unloading, but double glazed windows block most of the noise. The only thing that could have been better was the air conditioning in the room that looks in need of modernising as it wasn't very effective at keeping the room cool during a very mild week for Helsinki in September.

Scandic Gran Marina is located near the water front of Helsinki, close to walking distances into the CBD and restaurants. Room was OK. The shower was inside the bath making it a bit problem some getting in and out without slipping. There were no coffee/tea making facilities in the room. The dinner and breakfasts were bufffet styke and very good.

This is the second time we chose to stay at Scandic Grand Marina. There are certainly lower priced options in Helsinki, even in central Helsinki, but we like this location near the harbor and market square and not far from the shopping areas, plus a great breakfast, good service and a comfortable room (we chose a somewhat bigger room than the cheapest). Parking outside the hotel at the time we visited was 20 euros for 24 hours and 28 euros to park in the hotel garage. We were told that, if we used the car during our stay, there was a chance of losing our parking space (outside). There were always taxis waiting outside the hotel but we chose to call an Uber - 7 euros for a 2.2 km trip. We didn't use the gym or sauna but evidently those are available. Our room had a large, comfortable bed, blackout curtains, a desk with chair, an armchair and a two-person chair (not quite a couch) with a hide-a-bed inside. Bathroom and shower were fine. Perhaps the wardrobe was a bit small - not much shelf space. Fine for us for a one night stay without much luggage. Room temperature was fine without needing to deal with the thermostat. There was a kettle in the room. Overall a very nice stay and good chance we'll stay there again as my son and his family live in Helsinki.

Booked a Superior Sauna room for 5 nights but spent no more than 5 minutes in the room before deciding it felt like a dark dungeon with no outside view. We returned to reception and after talking to some rather unhelpful staff, downgraded to a Superior Plus room. This was a good size corner room (401) with ample windows, but also was a disappointment, poorly cleaned and maintained. Dirt, dust and crumbs on the floor and surfaces, squealing hinges on the door, rubbish on window sills. Air conditioning/ventilation could not be fully switched off. Called staff to the room, were told “that’s just how it is.” Asked who supervised room cleaning and maintenance and were told, “no-one really”. Sent email to management, no acknowledgement even. Room was furnished with 2 flat pack wardrobes with no suitable shelving anywhere for clothing, not good for 5 night holiday. Restaurant breakfast was good, evening meals also good although very limited a la carte choice. Restaurant staff were pleasant and attentive. Overall, hotel is grand but the room especially was dilapidated and poorly appointed, with obviously poor staff supervision and leadership. Also a little away from the main city centre, I would return to Grand Central or Hub for a much better experience.

Dear James, Thank you for taking a time to write us a review and our deepest apologies for the inconveniences during your stay. Our hotel is a historic building with all that that implies, thus there are thousands of different windows in our rooms and the windows are small in some of it. We are really sorry that the cleanliness and the furnishing of the room left a lot to be desired, we will share your valuable comments with our team to look into it. Wishing you a wonderful autumn and hoping for a second chance to welcome you as our guest! Kindest regards, Irina / Reception

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights as part of a BA holiday package (in order to get the double tier points currently on offer). I will be upfront and say at this point that as it was through BA, I was limited to what they had on offer, and this hotel had a really great location. Other than that it wouldn't have been my first choice at all but all the other hotels were much more expensive (and Finland is not cheap).
Room I can only give three stars for this review because I really had not great sleep over the time I was there. The bed is not good (as others have mentioned) - there is a strange mattress topper which kept sliding off the bed, and the sheets were continuously coming out, which was not great because there were no under-sheets or under-pillows (so I was sleeping on a dirty bed). There was also quite a lot of noise coming from the water / heating system running through the room, which kept me awake.
On day 2 my room wasn't cleaned at all, which resulted in me running out of toilet roll in the night and having to call down for some more. The minibar also wasn't checked or replenished for the whole 5 days.
F&B I only ate breakfast at the hotel. I have to say it was actually a pretty good buffet spread, however the whole experience was a scrum every day of trying to find a seat, because of the volume of people coming off the cruise ships and behaving like a swarm. On the final day (Sunday) literally everything was closed in the hotel even though there were lots of guests, which was somewhat odd.
Location The hotel is immediately adjacent to one of the ferry / cruise terminals in the city, which means these people are the primary customer of the hotel. That said, it is really close to everything you'd want such as the Market Hall, and I was able to walk everywhere on the days I stayed. If I were to return to Helsinki, I'd definitely pick somewhere around there but not this specific hotel.
Service As I was a single, female arriving on the night flight from London, which lands at 11pm, I asked the hotel if they could book me a taxi. I always like to do this so that they know that I'm arriving and also it is safe and someone is there to collect me. On this occasion (for the first time ever of all the 82 countries I've travelled to) reception refused and just gave me links to taxi apps. Unfortunately I couldn't get either of them to work properly with my iphone, so I had to end up making an expensive call to Finland, to book a driver directly.
Overall I wouldn't stay here again, but I would say it was perfectly ok for a 5 day stay, although I wish I'd slept better.

Everything about this hotel was fantastic. The location can't be beat as it's next to the Viking Lines terminal but also within walking distance of everything in terms of food, sites and excursions. At the breakfast buffet, they took an extraordinary amount of care to offer numerous gluten free options with limited cross contamination. The only thing I would change is to have a window that opens in the room, other than that, this place perfect for the price.

In Helsinki this is a good place to stay, quite close to the center and to the water front, hence why it’s a good choice. Living in there for a whole week made us understand that it is an average hotel only. Despite the generous breakfast, cleanliness is not a paramount. Don’t get surprised if you’ll find dogs droppings on the floor in the corridors. Yes, they allow pets in it, hence why get used to their poo! Breakfast is ok, a large amount of veggies, cereal, bread, fruits, and eggs, but not …salmon! I mean, in Finland, one expect some kind of smoked or picked fish…not here though :-( Anyway, the location is very strategic, closed to a nice spot in town, however not the best. Even when you hang on the door the tag to “please clean the room” they simply ignore it! Perhaps if you try the next day as well, they might refresh the bed! …floors and bathroom remains just the same. Their cleaning standards are quite odd. What to say, for 150€ per night they could definitely do better 😊

Pleasantly different hotel with a good location. The hotel room was quite old, but on the other hand, the room was clean, quiet, and somewhat unique from an architectural point of view. The hotel has good connections to all over to city of Helsinki, thanks to efficient public transport. As is common in Scandic hotels, the breakfast was plentiful, fresh and the hotel employees were very friendly and service-minded.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was very disappointed overall, especially in terms of sleeping comfort and cleanliness. The biggest problem was the bed. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable and felt slack. After one night I already had back pain, as the mattress offered no support whatsoever. It was almost impossible to find a comfortable sleeping position, which greatly affected my stay.
Another big problem was the hygiene of the bed. On the mattress topper I discovered stains, which immediately raised doubts about the cleanliness of the room. This was really unpleasant and made the entire room seem unhygienic. Although the sheets seemed clean in themselves, the condition of the mattress topper was simply not acceptable. The cleaning staff should have worked much more accurately here, as the sleeping area is the heart of every hotel stay.
On the positive side, there were no annoying noises like creaking, which at least made for a quiet night – if the sleeping comfort had been better. Nevertheless, the poor condition of the mattress and the lack of cleanliness on the pad leaves a very negative overall impression.
Overall, my stay was disappointing due to the poor sleeping comfort and hygienic deficiencies. I hope that the hotel will work on these points, as this is not sustainable in the current form. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the hotel at this time.

This hotel is well located - close to the harbor and right next door to the Viking terminal if your arriving/leaving by ferry. However, the inside has seen grander days. As many others have commented, the "A/C" doesn't work. The windows can open, but you need a special key to open them, and the front desk is unwilling to allow this (they told us it would interfere with the "A/C"). Thankfully, we found out that windows in our room had already been jimmied open by a former occupant, and we were able to open them up fully for some sweet relief. We made sure to conceal this every time we left the room so that we weren't discovered. I am sure there are many other better hotels in Helsinki, and once they finish the new hotel they're building across the street the Scandic will have to up they're game to stay in business.

Hi. The saunas in the hotels are separated by gender, so nakedness is the rule. The public saunas outside, in the city or in the nature, could be also separated by gender, so people are naked, but there are also mixt saunas, and there you have to wear a swimsuit.
We arrived late evening and went on the excellent bus service to Helsinki Central Station, and then walked through town to the hotel. The hotel is a little out of the town but it was a pleasant walk, and you pass several of Helsinki’s sights!
Hi Nigel,
Not sure for snack even if u find might be expensive, if I were u I will grab something at the airport. Lunch or dinner you definitely try the marke food which is located by the water few minutes walk from your hotel. Good luck!
