As my partner is a Scandic TOP-level member, he got 2 x 15 euros restaurant vouchers and a welcome gift was waiting in the room on arrival.
Our room was very spacious. It was probably one of the biggest in this category (30-49 m²). There was a sauna as requested.
The hotel was not full and it was pleasantly calm in the breakfast on both mornings.
In general, the hotel is good but I had some issues with rooms, especially temperatures. The corner room where I stayed first was cold, less than 18 degrees. Then I changed to another room where the temperature stayed at 23 degrees despite my trying to decrease it. That was good enough and I didn't spend much time in the room anyway.
Otherwise, the room was comfortable and clean. Some time in the night there was some noise probably coming from the old pipes of the building. It seems that the cleaner changed my towels every day although I left them in the hook which was supposed to mean I continue using them.
The buffet breakfast was practical and the time was long enough to start early or late. The personnel was very helpful. I like the location near Kallio area, Hakaniemi market and the metro station.
The breakfast is nice and as well the staff.
This time we booked a Superior Sauna room because it has a balcony. On arrival, they tried to upgrade us to a Superior Plus room because of my partner's Scandic TOP level membership. However, we wanted to keep our original booking because of the balcony.
Seven Superior Sauna rooms are located on the top 6th floor of the reception building. These rooms have leisure-themed decor. The most prominent thing is a small punching bag. The overall decor is on the dark side. The bathroom lighting could have been brighter.
We got the best Superior Sauna room #624 which has just one balcony neighbor and the other wall next to the old spectacular wing was low to ensure more panoramic views.
The weather was warm and sunny. So we spent a lot of time on the balcony. In the wintertime, I would prefer a Superior Plus room with a sauna. They have a much more spacious interior. The spectacular themed interior is also brighter.
The breakfast was pleasantly calm and well-handled as always.
The reception staff was friendly.
Superior rooms are located in the old wing and they have the 'Spectacular' decor including the black-white circus-themed wallpaper.
We got one of the best superior rooms from the top 6th floor. Our room has probably been a previous Superior Extra room. We could find hair conditioner and body lotion from the bathroom. They are not usually included in Scandic superior rooms. Also, there were bathrobes that is always nice.
It was a complete surprise to us not to find a kettle in our room. Even most Scandic standard rooms have it.
The reception staff on our arrival was very inexperienced. They had trouble making the room keys, printing out the TOP Level restaurant voucher, and making drinks in the lobby bar. It is quite unbelievable that somebody working in the bar doesn't know how to make a gin tonic. Fortunately, they had written instructions for that.
Also, the reception staff didn't know that Juttutupa restaurant in the same building is cooperating with the hotel. You can use the restaurant voucher there and put the bill to the room bill to get Scandic points. All doors were closed to get to the restaurant from inside. On the way back, one waiter opened the doors for us and we didn't have to go through the rain back to the hotel.
The breakfast was handled well as usual and also the checkout.
We had booked a room with a private sauna and it was a great choice. We were able to take a sauna in peace and relax, which is exactly what we had come for.
The room was located on the top floor of the hotel, so there was a nice view over the rooftops of Helsinki. In addition, the sounds of the traffic could not be heard in the room at all.
Our room was spacious and well decorated, the wallpaper had the same patterns as the hotel room doors.
There were many good options for breakfast, so everyone could find something to eat and there was no need to leave the hotel hungry to continue the day.
The staff was friendly and advised everything needed.
There are limited parking spaces at the hotel, all their spaces were reserved in the parking garage, but we were able to park the car in the yard for the evening and the next morning, which was fine for us.
Point nights are usually for a standard room but my partner is a Scandic TOP Level member and we were upgraded to a superior room. The member price for that room would have been 202 euros.
We got the same superior room #638 as last time. It is a nice room with an excellent bathtub. However, we missed coffee-making facilities also this time.
Scandic should have the same standards at every hotel. In Helsinki, superior rooms at Grand Marina have coffee-making facilities but no bathrobes. At Paasi you have bathrobes. At Simonkenttä, Marski, Hub, and Grand Central, you will get both coffee and bathrobes.
The breakfast was excellent. The food selection is very wide. Probably the best we have seen at any Scandic hotels and we have seen them quite many.
