Welcome to the Yard - your locally run downtown hostel where everyone is a friend. We are an independent boutique hostel in the heart of Helsinki and Best Hostel in Finland years 2018, 2019 and 2020. Our goal is to make everyone walk through our doors fall in love with Helsinki by helping them get the best possible experience of our Nordic Capital. You’ll feel right at home in our relaxed and cool ambience. We are a hostel with both private rooms and dorms. Most of our dorm beds have privacy curtains. Our large lounge is great for hanging out with friends or making new ones. Plus free Wi-Fi for all and lots of real plants to keep the air fresh. Our kitchen is well equipped for you to prepare your own meals and we offer free tea and coffee all day. So come and enjoy our hospitality. Excellent stay. I used to stay at hostels more often in my younger years, but now in my early 40s I more often do not. However, prices in Helsinki lead me to The Yard, and boy am I glad it did. What a great hostel. Located on the 3rd floor of a mixed-use building, you enter by a shared building entry along a pedestrian street and then buzz into the hostel. Once you're properly checked in you will receive codes to enter the building. The hostel is social but not loud. The living room is super comfortable, with some conversation and sometimes just people quietly working or on their computers. We are very happy that you have been our guest and that you enjoyed staying at our hostel! :-) We totally understand your critique regarding the towels, but since only a small percentage of our guests rents towels here, it would unfortunately not be fair to generally add the 2 Euro to every reservation, so the way we handle it at the moment is the best compromise that works to cover the related washing costs. I really enjoyed my stay here - it's by far the nicest hostel I've stayed in in Europe. The tagline of 'boutique hostel' is well deserved - the common room & kitchen area was excellent, good decor, facilities, and above all - comfortable & homely. The service was second to none, with a huge emphasis placed on advertising interesting activities to people staying. The shared kitchen area was really well stocked with free staple items to cook with - herbs, spices, oils, pasta and rice along with a microwave, hob, oven & pots and pans. The included breakfast was very welcome in such an expensive city, simple but very satisfying. This is a really nice and quiet hostel. I stayed in the female dorm. There’s a lockers to put your stuff including luggage and a hairdryer in the room. Loads of storage and plugs. It gives a lot of privacy because they have curtains.

This hostel far exceeded my expectations, it was really clean, and had all the things, great wash rooms, toilets, great living room, netflix tv, cosy lounge, really good guests from different locations, great conversations and the lounge area encourages that, few complimentaries in the fridge for off-breakfast hours, excellent location, I think the price could be the only thing that was a dent, other than that it was one of the best stays

The Yard Hostel is centrally located with most major Helsinki attractions within 15 minutes by foot. I shared a GIGANTIC room for 6 females. Each bunk has privacy curtains. Each bunk has two HUGE lockers underneath. Bring your own lock, and towel too or rent one for 2€. Our room had a couch, a vanity, and a coffee table. There are plenty of toilets. There's a single shower and a shower room, that had 3 separate enclosed showers in it. I exercised my faith muscles that no one would walk in on me when I had to use the shower room. Breakfast is from 0800-1100. I would've preferred more than just oranges, for fruit, but the hazelnut spread made up for this unequal dietary trade. In general, I'm a bit iffy on this hostel. It is a bit more expensive (I paid 50 euros a night for a bed), but the lockers are big and spacious, the hostel is very clean, and the decor is stylish. That having been said, the hostel has an odd rule that nobody can be in the common room past 11 p.m. I understand that they want to keep noise levels down... but I was on some occasions asked to leave the common room even when sitting there quietly minding my own business (i.e. doing some writing on my computer.) Normally I wouldn't complain that much about this, but it is somewhat annoying to pay 50 euros a night, only to have my usage of the common room arbitrarily restricted - I tend to be more of a night owl. I’ve stayed in my fair share of hostels across Europe and this is far and away the best I’ve been to yet. Spacious dorm, relaxed common area, plentiful bathrooms, and a very helpful, friendly staff as well. It’s clean and quiet but centrally located so that bars, restaurants, sights, shops, and public transportation are all just out the front door. Of course, if you prefer to walk, it’s a great central point for all destinations around the main city. I was able to see and do about a million things during my short 2.5 day stay in Helsinki thanks to tips from the lovely staff. I’d absolutely stay here again if and when I find myself back in Finland.
