Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a very individualistic hostel, unfriendly and stark. I was unable to cancel when I asked The noise from the surrounding clubs and bars was awful and I had a terrible night considering I had an early start I would never go there again

Unfair cancellation policy didn’t accept a mistake when booking reported minutes after it happened. This despite I requested multiple times for their support. The issue was originated when booking Catania based hostel and sent to Helsinki without noticeable warning.

Very cool hostel, city center, can be reached by bus, train, tram. No breakfast any longer, but fridge, oven available, free coffee and tea 24h. This the right place to meet people, big common area with tv, netflix, etc.. Saune and swimming hall is around the corner.

On an upper floor of the building with the sign City Forum Hostel above its building entrance, it was an ok 3-night stay at this place in an 8-bed dorm room (with a nice addition of a small two-shelf piece in my bed) with also a spacious "common room" (with long comfortable sofa chairs & also some nice-sized tables). So yes, with the place itself just an average one, the best part of the stay here I would say is its proximity to "all the essentials": for sightseeing with just about a 10-minute walk to the "downtown waterfront" where to visit are the city's "premier sites" (Helsinki Cathedral, Uspenski Cathedral, SkyWheel Helsinki & the tent-market) and yes where there's also the ferry dock to the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress; for shopping with just about a 5-minute walk to the two big shopping malls (Stockmann just across the main street and Forum to the left on the main street without crossing it); and for food with really quite a number of places to eat right around here (including the two McDonald's in & around the Forum Mall and the "pretty nice" buffet restaurant called Luckiefun's for Chinese & Japanese food).

the hostel exceeded my expectations! Clean, simple, stylish and peaceful. Just what I was looking for! But, I highly recommend traveling to the hotel during daylight hours if possible! The bars next to the hotel were restless, there were drunken people lying on the streets at night shouting, etc. i was uncomfortable!

Hi there, Thank you for your great review. I am sorry to hear you were feeling uncomfortable while finding us. The bar street can get pretty busy on the weekends, but usually during weekdays it is pretty calm, and even on the weekends it is completely safe even if Finnish people tend to get noisier while drinking. We hope to see you again in the future! Sincerely, Iina the Yard team

Definitely the quietest hostel I’ve ever stayed at but smack in the middle of the city. Very clean, beds comfortable and private, showers were nice and the desk people were great. I wish they had offered a walking tour or some type of activity.

I decided for my first trip to Finland to start in Helsinki, and I chose the Yard Hostel. It is situated perfectly close to the station, but I have to admit: being tired after a long trip it was quite hard for me to find the hostel. Maybe I should have had a better look at the instructions sent via e-mail. But well, as I said, I was busy traveling. The hostel was super clean and whilst the bedrooms offered some privacy (beds with curtains), the lounge area was very inviting to communicate with your co-travelers. I enjoyed my stay there a lot and would fully recommend it!!

I visited this hostel as a solo female and found this hostel very safe and comfortable. The interior is very clean and funky. There are many other solo females staying here. The staff are very friendly and there are great facilities. This place would be an ideal place to stay if visiting Helsinki. Would also be perfect for a girls trip!

Good location, but as there is no stuff at the place, some young people from Germany and England had parties both nights until about 4 o'clock in the morning. Even though I told them to shut up, they just told: "Very soon".
