Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed for 4 nights on our trip to Helsinki and we could not have had a better experience. The hostel is cosy, quaint and right next to the ferry stop that takes you to the mainland. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We usually avoid breakfast buffets as we find them a bit hectic but the Hostel Suomenlinna breakfast was quiet and not stressful at all. There are cute graphics everywhere that have clear and specific instructions for hostel policies, which was helpful as both me and my partner have autism. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable and priced very reasonably. Recommended!

I just stayed for most of the week and the hostel is a welcoming comfy place to recover a long day exploring in the cold March weather. It was basic accommodation but totally adequate. I would highly recommend it for solo travellers, group travellers and families. It is less than 5 minutes from to ferry which will take you into Helsinki in 15 minutes. A great find!

We stayed for one night with our 9 month baby. Facilities were okay but bedlinens smelled as detergent so badly that I couldn’t almost sleep at all. I hope that they would start use non-perfurmed detergents. I liked the hostel overall and would like to stay there in future (with no smell).

Good Room. Nice services. Exciting Nature and only 15 min to Helsinki. The Island was a great place to see and we enjoyed a nice koncert in the Church. The hostel had a very calm atmosphere and some really nice staff. Overall a good experience and the place can be recommended.

Less than 5 minutes from where the ferry drops off passengers. We used the hostel for a week but didn’t stop overnight. Staff were friendly and the food was simple but good. The hostel was clean and functional.

We stayed here as a group of three adults and two children. We had a private four person room (two single beds and a bunk bed with a cot). It was very spacious and overall great value for money. The hostel was very clean and well presented. Hostel staff were kind but the breakfast was a little disappointing.

So easy to get to, even late at night. If coming straight from the train station to the island, you can use the regional single ticket on both the train and the ferry. The island is an intensely beautiful place, and the hostel really cute. Knowing its history made it even better. We had the three bed private room, and it was spacious and comfortable. The complimentary coffee was unique and delicious. The hostel allows you to come in after reception hours with a door code and do check-in in the morning, and in our case, they were late in opening reception in the morning, and we had to make our flight, so we left a note telling them to charge our VISA, and they were fine with that. So it was great for our 24 hour layover with odd hours.

We've stayed in the Suomenlinna hostel for one night and felt in love with it. Qiet place, cosy good designed rooms, big lounge zone with a computer, a kitchen with a small cooking zone and two big tabels. The food store is in a couple of steps from it. Enjoyable place:) Thanks to Olly for his charisma and professionalism:)

The Hostel is on the island of Suomolinna and very close to the harbour. The Island is not big, it was quite relaxing for an afternoon walk. it is worth to stay over night to enjoy the Island. The hostel is clean and quiet at night, the shared dorm which we stayed in had bunk beds, the bathroom with shower toliet is nice. There is a lounge with TV and a large kitchen which we had our dinner there, i Felt a bit hot inside the room because the weather was very hot this summer.
