Therefore and reluctantly I shall share my opinions here.
First of all the positive points.
Breakfast was amazing and more importantly staff made sure there was plenty of food on offer by way of topping up empty plates of meat and cheese etc.
The breakfast serving staff were friendly and accommodating as was the gentleman who appeared to run the bar on an evening.
The location is excellent for various restaurants and shops and the railway station.
Now the negatives.
When I check into a hotel I expect at least eye contact by reception staff and not someone transfixed with their computer screen.
To be fair the lady that checked us in was very friendly.
Unfortunately our luggage was left in Helsinki. Obviously that is not the hotel’s fault but I asked at reception where we could buy basic hygiene products. We were given accurate directions to purchase these items.
The following morning I noticed that everything we needed was for sale in the reception area. It would’ve been appreciated if that was pointed out to us the previous evening.
We were up early that morning as we had an early train to catch. Finnair had advised that our luggage would be delivered between 06-00 & 10-00. I asked reception staff at approximately 06-45 if they had received our luggage and the answer was no:
Subsequently we were advised that our luggage was delivered at 07.01.
When we collected our luggage from reception that evening they were adamant that the luggage hadn’t been delivered before we left for the day. This was approximately 07.30.
Having flown Finnair for almost 20 years I have to say I was of the opinion that perhaps they were the ones giving incorrect information
In hindsight I am not so sure.
Fair to say I shall never find out the answer.
Housekeeping service was very poor to say the least.
The toilets in the public areas were at best dirty and at worst absolutely filthy.
I cannot imagine when our room had a proper deep clean. The table was dirty , there were small pieces of food underneath the desk and when I stood on the rug I felt a sharp object. When I lifted the rug up there was a thick piece of glass under there.
Based on this experience I cannot recommend the hotel.

Superior Plus room is nearly like a Junior suite with a separate living area and bedroom but it doesn't have a sauna. In five years, the only noticeable thing in the room decor was the three bling-bling 'crystal' lamps in the living room. The furniture is a little bit outdated.
The bathroom has a mist shower head which is very nice. However, being in the shower caused a flood over the bathroom floor.
The breakfast was quite busy on Wednesday morning. The food selection is wide and widely spread which caused a bit of searching for what is where.
Our stay had a good value for the paid 134 euros. As a Scandic TOP Level member, my partner got a 15-euro restaurant voucher but no welcome gift which is stated in the member benefits. However, that was not the cause why I dropped one star away.
It was more the overall ambiance at this hotel. It has more of a cold and sterile hospital feeling than a warm welcoming hotel. Despite the ugly exterior, Scandic Oulu Station has a more pleasant atmosphere in our opinion.

We ate one day at the hotel's restaurant Roast. It was good food, but some strong burger.
I have travelled years in Finland both at work and also during my vacations. In Scandic Oulu everything always functions perfectly. When hot, they pour you a glass of water already by the reception and when cold and snowy, one is able to drive in the garage and get in to the reception without too much trouble!
The cleanliness of the room was ok, nothing to complain, but could be improved.
I daily handled something with a receptionist and it happened to be the same lady every day. The last day she gave me a good favour for free which I really appreciated. The staff made the visit again!
"Lots of parking space in the garage below the hotel. There is a movie theater in the same building. All services are nearby."Read full review
