Wonderful experience in a snow paradise. Friendly guide with excellent ski-do and nice fire at the top. Very pleased with this trip. There were some spectacular landscape images all around the hill and the views of the Russian border were breathtaking as well.
We visited Isokenkäisten Klubi with my hubby for one night and stayed at the Aurora Hut, a little floating igloo/cabin at the lake. When booking the hut we were looking for a new experience and were not disappointed - the hut gives you a modern yet peaceful opportunity to enjoy the beautiful summer eves by the lake. :) We had also booked another finnish experience, sauna. This we can't recommend enough - the soft 'löyly' (heat), a refreshing swim on the lake and enjoying the scenery at the sauna terrace was the highlight of our stay! You could say, it's a finnish summer in a nutshell. The dinner was great, the breakfast amazing and most importantly: the athmosphere during our short stay was heartwarming and welcoming, thanks to Katja and Sirpa. If you are looking for a place to enjoy and relax, we highly recommend Isokenkäisten Klubi!…
My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights in july. The overall service was amazing. Great hospitality, great service and super friendly staff. We stayed in the amazing on water huts. It was a nice experience and an amazing view in the sunset. The staff asked if we wanted to try the saune, and warmed it up for us, so we could get the saune experience, with running out into a pretty lake :-) The breakfeast was very good and the dinner was amazing ( we took menue of the day and had some great food for the price). We was so happy with this place that it is very likely that we will go back, north Finland, just to stay there.
The sisters Katja & Sirpa ensure that you have everything you need. Every day buffet breakfast, lunch and buffet diner. We had a Russian diner : decorations and food were super. We went to Oulanka National Park on our own and got a great lunch with us : warm juice, coffee, sandwiches, sausages and cakes. We had a cottage with sauna. Big bedrooms cleaned every day, nice living with fire place, ... Thank you very much Katja & Sirpa !
Katja and Sirpa run this place, with support of their mother, who ensures heritage recipes and warm socks, in a true family style. Rooms are simple, but clean and of course in a truly total natural environment. The kota cooking and the many hiking possibilities, in combination with typical finish entertainment, made our week stay a memory that we never will forget. We were here with friends and together with the other guests, quickly a nice holiday group was formed
A wonderful family run hotel surrounded by forest (with grazing reindeer!) and beside a lake. It is about 30 minutes from Kuusamo and a short distance from the Russian border. If you want to get away from it all, this is a perfect location. There are hotel style rooms as well as log cabins, all built by the father of Katja and Sirpa who now run Isokenkaisten. Our hotel room was quite small but modern and comfortable. Katja and Sirpa are very welcoming and Sirpa is a very talented cook who is passionate about using local ingredients. The hotel's main season is winter so if you are visiting in summer it is advisable to check in advance whether evening meals will be available. If not, it is a longish drive on a narrow and bumpy road to reach any restaurants. But we were able eat at the hotel on three nights of our four night stay and enjoyed every meal; the local lake fish were a highlight and the homemade soups were delicious. The wood burning stove lit in the evenings in the dining room was a nice touch because nights were chilly, even in June. Breakfasts were also very good, especially the freshly cooked porridge. The surrounding scenery is attractive and there are bird and bear watching opportunities nearby. We learnt a lot about the area from talking with Sirpa and this added to the enjoyment of our stay.…
What an amazing place! We've only spent one night there but I wish we could have stayed longer. Katja and Sirpa were truly amazing hosts, telling us lots of stories about their family, how their father built almost by himself the entire facility. Sirpa's delicious game menu was also a real highlight. Most ingredients were coming from less than 10km around (even the potatoes were "home grown"). This place is for sure worth a visit! Our only regret? The fact we did not stay longer! If you are reading this Thank you very much Katja & Sirpa, your place is a true gem.
We had a perfect short holiday at isokenkaisten klubi. The two sisters made sure everyone and everything was perfect and well organized. Good food, clean rooms, beautiful surroundings. Only positives!
We stayed in a cottage that belongs to the Hotel, with a party of 4 (2 couples) because they only had 1 hotelroom vacant in the week we wanted to visit. This was a excellent choice because the cottage is very nice with open fireplace, small kitchen, good shower, electric sauna and 2 bedrooms with 3 beds for each room. The cabin is simple but very cosy and comfortable. We had full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in the Hotel restaurant, the food, service and atmosphere is very good, the food is mainly local dishes but very well prepared by Sirpa (owner and cook) She runs the place together with her sister Katja, they are very helpfull and give great service and a lot of local information. We booked our trip with Voigt Travel (Dutch travelagency) our trip included flights with Transavia from Amsterdam, transfer by bus from Kuusamo airport, to the hotel (45 minutes drive) Our trip was including snowshoe hike with guide, snowmobile trip, visit to raindeere farm, husky safari, traditional cooking in Kota cabin, russian diner, ice fishing. We also tested our skills on their own ice circuit with a rally car with spikes. They provided us with special winter overalls, boots and gloves. Very quite place on a ice covered lake where we have seen the Northern Lights 4 times in 1 week. (very Lucky) We had a great time, this is a experience you will never forget! Thanks to the friendly staff and owners.…
Wow! This place and the people running it are amazing. We were welcomed warmly by the owners, Katja and Sirpa, and they even helped us carry our luggages up the stairs to our room. We stayed at the main house with several rooms and a shared bathroom. Everything was clean. Rooms a bit small if you have big luggages. Since we have the entire wing to ourselves, Katja said we can use the hallway to put our luggages. The central part of the main house has some sofas where we hang out and a big table where people can play games or work on laptops etc. Wifi is free. You can also stay at the cottages. They look so picturesque in the snow and is a short walk to the main house where the restaurant is. Once settled, Sirpa showed us how to use the kicksled (yeah our first time), snowshoes and we can borrow winter clothing and gear from the cabinets. The next day we joined the snowmobile trip to Kuntivaara Hill and in all our trip over northern Finland, nothing could compare to the view there at the top plus the tykky trees that we wanted to see were aplenty at the top of the hill. Its actually the reason why we stayed at Isokenkaisten- because we wanted to see Kuntivaara and it did not disappoint. Isokenkaisten is far from town so you can pre-arrange airport pickup from them if you want. There is no restaurant or supermarket nearby. Food is a bit expensive but that is because it is so far away from town so there is cost to them to transport the food, store them. This looks like a perfect place to view aurora- no light pollution but it was cloudy the time we were there. We highly recommend this place in Kuusamo. A lovely place to stay in. The owners are very hands on. You see them all the time and they will pamper you.…
