Signing in was easy, received a text message with all needed information a day before, so you didn’t need to go via reception. We were able to get the room an hour earlier per request from reception, very nice. Parking was easy, parking garage under the hotel, but it was quite expensive, 105€ for 7 nights. It was biting -25C when we arrived, and the apartment was really cold. The wind howled through the windows and the cold kept creeping in, the bedroom was not warmer than +17C even if the heater was on fully. Also, the bathroom floor heating must have been broken or completely missing as the floor was really cold. The kids had the warmest room close to the corridor, but then again, the noises from outside travelled into the flat. You had to have your ski-boots in the apartment, so the stomping sound when walking back and forth to the ski-room in the basement travelled into the apartment. The staircase is with stone floors, and very slippery. Also the partying sounds travelled between the flights, so a couple of nights were quite noisy. Finding your way to the ski-room was another thing, there were not many signs, and one in the basement led you in the wrong direction completely. The ski lockers are quite small, you could only fit max 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards in one locker. One locker is reserved per apartment, and with codelock, remember to bring your reading glasses along! The Ski-Inn apartments are in the middle of pedestrian Ruka-village, with everything necessary around. Bigger markets like Citymarket/Prisma/Alko can be found in Kuusamo, 25min drive away. A small spa can be found in Holiday Club Kuusamo, but our kids thought it was quite boring, as there were only one small slide and no outside pool. The Ruka slopes are very nice, something for all ages and levels. The lousy level of signage continued in the slopes. There was maybe one sign in the beginning of the slope telling you which number it is, but it did not continue further on, and on a cloudy day you could not really tell were you were. And there were quite many signs telling you the name of the place, but it was not clearly mentioned in the ski-map, maybe this was for hikers in the offseason. Ruka is a nice smaller place a days drive (12h) away from Helsinki. Enough slopes and places to see to spend a week. Plenty of ski tracks if you prefer countryside skiing.

This was our second time at Ruka suites, we really like the location, very convenient to all areas. Nice and spacious and we love the sauna. The only down side is you can’t control the heating and it only comes on twice a day, so can be quite cold at times, it’s not a huge issue but it was one of the things we remembered the first time and still had the same feeling. The warming cabinet kept tripping out when it got too hot so we could only use it on a low temperature which barely worked so that was quite annoying. The other issues is there is no manned reception/ security and the people above us were extremely noisy within the “quiet time” so we couldn’t complain. And the fire alarm issue should be sorted so it isn’t as sensitive or shouldn’t have to pay a fine. I felt I was always worried about setting it off with deodorant or something so small. Other than those minor issues I would still recommend and return.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry about the late answer. We apologize the issues that you had during your holiday. The warming cabinet can overheat on high temperature and it stops working. It should work fine on a low temperature. We have instructions in the apartments how to prevent the fire alarm setting off. We also gladly give information at the reception about the fire alarm system. We have a manned reception working every day and at night time you can reach us over the phone. There is also a security service and they come to help if there is too much noise. You can find all the contact information and addresses in the apartment book. Thank you for staying in RukaSuites apartments!

the rooms were so cold and draughty that I caught a cold. I was sick all my vacation. +21 - is a lie. I have in my apartment +15 Low hills and boring. Maps are incomprehensible. The system of fines can lead to paranoia. They have a bad fire alarm, and you will pay for it.

Just got back from a week in Ruka - travelled with wife and two kids (aged 9 and 11) who had not been on a ski holiday before. We stayed in a two bed self catering apartment. It was small but well equipped with everything you need for a ski holiday (drying cupboard, sauna, storage etc.). Ruka Village is quite small so everything is within walking distance. The configuration of our apartment was one room with bunk beds for the kids and a double (twin beds pushed together for the adults. The mattresses are quite thin, there is plenty of bedding so we ended up putting a spare duvet on top of our mattress to give a but of extra comfort. There is a hob and a microwave but no oven (there is a dishwasher and fridge) our apartment was equipped with all of the kitchen stuff you need to self cater. The Supermarket - located on the ground floor of Ruka Suites - you can access without leaving the building. It is more of a local convenience store rather than a supermarket - it sells a small range of baked goods, dairy, cold meats, soft drinks, beer etc. Enough to cover basic needs for the week (nothing fancy). My tip would be to bring your own tea bags, coffee, sugar etc. as these are not provided in the apartment and shop only stocks large sizes. Overall we had a great time in resort and we will definitely go back!

We (2+1) had a small suite with 2 beds and a sofa bed. Room was great and had everything we needed for a couple of nights stay: sauna, bath tub, clothes drying facilities, a small kitchen (refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee machine etc.). The location is excellent, if you want to be in the center of the village, near slopes (in the winter) and the other end of Karhunkierros hiking/running trails (in the summer).
