...and then drive the 20mins North and enjoy the log cabin. There is everything you need in that mini house and we loved it. Especially the wood stove and the sauna were great. We could have stayed longer, it was so romantic amidst the Lappi winter wonderland.

First of all it was the Finns taking pride in who they are and what they have to offer. The infrastructure (both at the resort and the region writ large) set the foundation for our fantastic experience. A car is a must have. Roads are good, clean and driving in Finland is pleasant all by itself. The lakeside wonderland in Winter could easily be imagined as a nature paradise in the warmer months. Can't wait for a return visit in the Summertime!

Very peaceful and quiet place rather near for Ruki Voillage. Here you can feel real finnish winter or summer. There isn't any program in property, but nature gives you ot of possibilities. And as said, Ruka is rather near with all services- The property is not luxorious but there is everything you need.

The cottage was very nice and clean. The surroundings of the cottage were very clean and there were a lot of hobbies for us to do. In addition staff were friendly and very helpful. There could have been more information about the sights and the HolidayClub activities.

Nice accommodation for families or couples who want to spend holidays near nature by fishing or hiking and on wintertime skiing cross-country or slalom. On winter-season there is over 200 days of snow. Ruka is full of winter fun and lappish experiences. Enjoy well maintained slopes, efficient ski lifts and stunning views. On summer-season you can wander down the rivers and catch grayling or trout with spinning rod or fly.

We visited as a group of four after swapping an unused week with Interval so I'm not sure how much it would otherwise cost, but we were delighted. We stayed Nov 15-22nd and were one of only a few occupied cabins which was perfect for us. We had 3b4, a three bedroom plus loft unit and found it to be perfect for four adults - the bedrooms are quite small and only have a wardrobe (no drawers) so we used the third bedroom as a dumping ground for bags. The cabin was amazingly warm and the kitchen quite well equipped - the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer were a real bonus and we really enjoyed spending time in the sauna before going for a roll in the snow! We used the cota on several nights, cooking sausages over the fire and keeping an eye out for the northern lights. In summer they have boats available to use on the lake and guests are free to fish if they like, which sounds wonderful. A car is a must - but that's the best way to see the surrounding area and visit the reindeer farms etc anyway so not a problem for us. We had a wonderful stay in the area and would love to go back one day.…

We stayed at Holiday Club Ruka at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb 2012 and are a family of 5 (4 adults and a 12 year old). The cabin was typical of this area and was similar to those we have previously stayed in on trips to Levi, Pyha and Yllas. The kitchen/dining/living area was open plan with a decent kitchen which featured all we needed including a dishwasher (which is nice when you are on holiday), a good sized table that seats 6 and a couple of wood framed sofas (to sit 5). Since some of the photos already posted have been taken, our tv had been updated to a Sony flat screen. Not that we used it that much. Also in the main room was, as usual, an open log fire. The cabin was warm enough without it but we still had a fire most of the time we were in anyway. There was a log store outside with a good supply of logs in it which we would not have got through if we had spent 3 weeks there! The bedrooms (1 double, 2 twins) weren't huge but were ok - after all you will be out and about enjoying all the area has to offer rather than spending time indoors. There were 3 additional beds in the upstairs mezzanine level but these are suited only for children as it is in the roof space so you have to crawl around. In other cabins we have stayed in these mezzanine levels have opened up in to the main living space but on this occasion it was enclosed which we found beneficial once our daughter had gone to bed. The 2 toilets were quite small but ok. The wet room featured 2 showers, drying cabinet and tumble dryer and led on to the sauna. The sauna did not reach extremely hot temperatures as it was fighting against 2 outside windows but was nice none-the-less. The only thing missing was a ski store. The resort is out on its on, some 15 minutes away from both Ruka and Kuusamo. The ski bus does stop at the end of the road you turn down to get to the cabins but this is some 2km away so a car is really an essential. Not that you have to leave the area as there are lots of nice walks and next to a lake there was a lovely Kota (wooden teepee like structure with a space for a fire in the centre - perfect for cooking sausages in) that was part of the holiday club - the perfect place to enjoy the Northern Lights if you are lucky enough to see them! We had no major dealings with reception but the gentleman there was friendly and efficient and even acted as a translator when we wanted to book the taxi across the slopes but had a language problem! Ruka is a lovely village and has undergone major work over the past few years. There is still some building work going on but it is unobtrusive. Finand is great for beginner and intermediate skiers and Ruka is no different - though for the more advanced the FIS slope is good fun. We will certainly return to Ruka one day and would be happy to go back to Holiday Club Ruka.…

We stayed in a 3 Bedroom Log Cabin with additional loft sleeping upstairs. We are a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 kids....18, 12, 6, 1 years. We hired a car as we believed it was essential based on the feedback we had read and it was one of the best decisions. Without a car I think it would be very difficult to enjoy it here as you would feel a little in the sticks. It took a maximum of 15 minutes to reach the main resort of Ruka where you can find everything. When we arrived we were greeted by the reception staff and didn't even need to get out of our car. We were handed our keys and directed to our cabin. The cabin was clean, very warm and had everything we needed. I won't deny it was a little bit dated but that didn't bother us. We had requested a cot for our one year old before arrival and I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be there but I didn't need to be concerned it was ready and waiting for us. The bathroom set up is a little strange, there are two separate toilets with sink and cupboards for toiletries etc, they weren't very big and they are side by side. These are in the main part of the log cabin. The shower is completely open, like a wet room and it is in the same area as the laundry and dryer, which leads into a very nice Sauna. Takes a little getting used to but was adequate. The 3 bedrooms downstairs all have wardrobes and aren't the biggest, one is a double and the other two are twins. Upstairs is reached by a very steep ladder/staircase and the ceiling is low, perfect for our two youngest girls who thought it was brilliant to have their own little space. Overall the log cabins for us were perfect as this is just what we wanted. We were happy to be surrounded by nothing other than woodland and snow. The kids went out every night after we got back from skiing or an excursion and played in the snow making sledge runs and building snowman. We did several excursions whilst we were there, Santa, Huskies, Horse Riding and Snow Mobiles and of course the skiing. All of them were amazing in there own way, don't get me wrong very expensive but worth it all. We had an amazing holiday, we planned it all independently and would highly recommend the accommodation, the skiing and the excursions. Experiences we will never forget.…

I really liked this resort. It's not to be confused with the other more popular Holiday Club (Tropiikki). The Ruka Holiday Club is off Highway 5, between Kuusamo and Ruka. If you come from Kuusamo, drive towards Ruka, pass the junction with road 81 to Rovaniemi but stay on Road 5. After 5km you will see a very small street on your left. Go down that road for about 2km and the Holiday Club reception is on your left. Blink and you'll miss it! The independent chalets are in a very isolated area, a car is recommended. The chalets are simply lovely, you have your very own fireplace and plenty of wood in an outside storage room. We had 3 bedrooms plus 3 more beds in an upstairs mezzanine. The kitchen is well equipped with a very big fridge/freezer, toaster, pots and pans, a coffee maker, etc. There is also a washing machine inside the chalet. There were 2 toilets plus a separate shower room which then led to a cozy sauna! After spending the day on the slopes, this was a welcome treat! The Ruka skiing resort is 10km away from the Holiday Club driving north on Road 5. Kuusamo is 15km away on the same road but on the opposite direction. Skiing is good and suitable to both beginners and expert skiiers. Because of the chilli wind we made big use of the covered chair-lift which offered some shelter from the cold! On the same side of the fell there is also a very nice snow-trail for children with wood sculptures in the snow. Plenty of cross-country trails too. In Kuusamo there is a very big K-Market to buy provisions and you can take a lift up to the observation tower (free entry) for good views over the surrounding area and a coffee at the bar. We ate at the Martina restaurant at 3, Oulukante. Food in Finalnd isn't great. This restaurant was ok-ish though. I would definitely recommend this resort and I hope to be back there soon!…
