On the way from north to south, we chose Kajaani as a place for the night. The homepage of the hotel gives a picture of a beautiful and idyllic mansion and from the outside it is so. Rooms in the outbuildings range from quite a basement bunker to a mansion-style. We first got a room in the basement of the house opposite the main building. The interior is to say the least ugly and the sauna does not save the situation (picture of red furniture). We got to move to a side mansion where the rooms are more mansion type. A beautiful room but the smell of moisture and mold is something you would not want to experience in a hotel room. The pictures show the condition of the bathroom. The upholstery of the fine chair tears and otherwise everything is almost there. The advertised coffee and tea assortment turned out to be a couple of tea bags and quick coffee. In the rooms, ventilation is switched on at the clock switch, so when the time runs out, the air does not change. This contributes to the risk of moisture damage. A rich breakfast turned out to be quite a basic set. The porridge was cold when the burners in the boiler were not on. The porridge was taken back to the oven to warm up but the bulbs were still not lit. Likewise, the melted butter had cooled and solidified in its vessel. All in all, the cake is beautiful on the outside. Another star for the friendly staff.

Boutique hotel near the center of Kajaani. We stayed in the Karolina Suite, which had two bedrooms and a large living room, toilet and private sauna, as well as a large balcony with views of the manor garden. This suite did not have proper air conditioning, so we slept with the window open. Fortunately, it didn’t get any mosquitoes in, so even in the heat, I managed to get some sleep. There was a young girl at the reception who had just started her job and couldn’t really tell anything. We had three couples and she, among other things, directed one couple to the wrong place to stay. The hotel does not have a restaurant and we were told they have a partner and the restaurant is open. The restaurant was located 500 meters from the hotel. We walked to the restaurant, but it wasn’t open at all. Breakfast in Karolineburg was versatile and quite ok with some local delicacies. If you are disabled, the Karolina Suite is not suitable for you, as there is no lift to the 2nd floor. Price for stay was 299 €/night.

TripAdvisor description promised a hole lots more than the place delivered. Place was clean and staff was nice in relaxed way. Hotel has mixed interior style that varies between early 1800 century and 1990’s. Room itself was clean. Balcony was untidy. Suite didn’t have any of mansion feeling, it was pure 90’s. Entrance stairs were extremely slippery. Breakfast served both hot and cold dishes. Scrambled eggs and porridge were really salty. We did have doubts about some things freshness. Oat milk and gluten free products were available. Half of the breakfast room seats are facing a window with a half open garbage shed view, which was disturbing.

The room was a bit bigger than we thought it would be. Had all the necessities in the room (fresh towels, sheets etc) Was not satisfied with the state of the rug (needs some cleaning) and was disappointed that bathroom did not have a bidet. Otherwise, had a very pleasant experience, thanks to the remoteness of the location and the breakfast included was incredible.

Lovely personnel, good breakfast. Good location. Quiet neighborhood. And the whole place is filled with history. The only minus is that there is no restaurant in the hotel, but within 200 meters is the closest one.
