Guesthouse Borealis is the best solution for those who go on excursions during the day and do not have particular hotel needs. At Christmas Rovaniemi is inaccessible in terms of prices and this B&B is absolutely cheap compared to the crazy big picture. The facility is very nice, clean, the staff very kind. The room is essential and equipped with everything, very warm, very comfortable single bed, small but functional bathroom. The average breakfast (sweet/savoury) is eaten in a very nice and welcoming room. A kitchen with fridge is available which I made full use of in the evening when, tired, I didn't have the strength to go out. The train station is 200 meters away, the center is 1.3 km away, which can be done on foot or by bus from the station. Recommended.

Stayed with our family 5 nights in Borealis. We had the apartment for 6 people. Perfect! How nice to be able to cook yourself, eating out every night with 4 men is expensive in expensive Rovaniemi. We also had breakfast there, the breakfast was fine, tasty and plenty of choice! The apartment and breakfast room look cozy and also neat and clean. Quiet location, near the train station (bus to / from Santa Village and airport), near large supermarket and 20 minutes walk from downtown. If necessary, you take the bus, which also runs through the center but on foot is easy to do. Nice pizza restaurant next to the supermarket for those who don't want to go far. After check-out, you are not allowed to leave luggage in the guesthouse, which can be annoying. Wasn't an issue for us. We had our own entrance with our apartment and next door were sledges that the children could use. Borealis is on a hill so the kids had a lot of fun with the sledges! Super good place to stay and affordable!

The location was perfect for us, really easy to go to the center and the Santa village. 5 min walking train station. Buffet Breakfast with good choices. The bedroom was fine, clean and the space was perfect for the 2 of us. They have in-house self cooking kitchen with pots, dishwasher and induction available. On the website there’s no information about laundry service but they do have in-house laundry service for 8€ / per load.

Receptionist people are helpful and friendly.

I stayed in this Guesthouse for one night. The room was small but comfortable, especially the mattress. Maybe the pillow was a little small. Bathroom also small but functional, the shower is very practical. Breakfast in the morning is small but tasty. Friendly staff and speak English well.

Ten days before Christmas we decided to see some snow in Rovaniemi, but had only limited time. We took the night train arriving on a Monday morning, and the afternoon train back to Helsinki next day Tuesday. Although we booked a room for only one night, we were welcomed with coffee when we arrived at 8 am and we could leave our travel bag there totally outside of the booked and paid for time of stay. Breakfast was ample and the entire feeling was very cosy and comfortable, maybe because the house is not modern. Without luggage, we could enjoy a previously booked husky ride, snow-mobiling in the evening, visiting the Santa park and walking around town enjoying restaurants. Thank you very much !

We spent one night here just before coming back to Italy. We needed an affordable accommodation in Rovaniemi, a simple place where spending some hours before taking a very early flight.

As there is a silver lining in every cloud, I start saying that the personnel have been very available.

On the other hand, we paid 120 per night for a place that worth not more than 60 euros. Consider that we paid 140 per night for a 4* hotel in the city center, and the only reason we did not spend the last night there was that it was fully booked, as well as the other similar hotels.

This place may be suitable if you are looking for a no-frills place, but only if you find a room for a good rate.

It was a suitable place to stay to experience the Northern Lights tours in Rovaniemi. The location is just a few minutes walk from the train station. The airport shuttle can be accessed by this property. Plenty of taxis ply around too.

I liked the fact that my tour operator for Northern Lights tour picked me up from here. This hotel was the cheapest I could find in Rovaniemi in a busy season. The rooms are small with a small bed. It was enough space for one person. It has a small bathroom and shower. The heating was a little on the colder side.

There is parking for rental cars in the back and breakfast came with the room and it was sufficient. The owner is also the reception and was pretty helpful.

If you come outside of the reception times, the keys are left in a post box, It takes a little bit of jiggling of the keys to get them working.

I really liked my stay here, so quiet did not feel like a Guesthouse at all.

From the airport I got a taxi which was 30€, which was what I expected to pay but I did not know there was a shuttle bus for 7€, when I emailed the Guesthouse I was not made aware of this.

But they booked this for me once I left.

My main aim coming here was to see the Northern Lights.

First night was too cloudy, we only saw a hint.

Second night was much better, even though I have seen much better in Norway, this was so beautiful and my guide from Wild About Lapland was amazing. If you go into their website you book your first tour and for the second you email them and ask for a code for 40% off second tour.

The breakfast was just what I needed, bread, fruits, meats and of course tea and coffee. (Oh and chocolate biscuits!)

The walk to the centre is 20 mins but it does not sem that far at all and I really enjoyed the walk in the snow.

Wrap up warm at -12 and the wind it can take your breath away.

Staff were all so lovely, and a girl told me she would post my postcards on her way home. So thank you so much for that!

I do not tend to go back to countries I have been to , but if I did, I would stay here again.

Thank you.

We stayed for two nights. The rooms are clean and homely, ours faced a downhill slope with some trees. The location is very close to the train station which was good for us, also buses to the santa village are leaving close by. A 15-minute quite straightforward walk to the city centre which was nice in the snow. The guesthouse is not right next to other houses so it's pretty quiet. The staff is very nice and made some arrangements to adapt to our arrival and departing schedule. Breakfast was good and is included in the price. Wifi worked well. Beds were nice and we slept well. All in all a very nice stay!

This little family run hotel has exceeded our expectations. Meticulously clean, our apartment offered plenty of space, all the kitchen amenities and a private sauna. Breakfast was fresh and generous (and catered for intolerances), staff - very helpful and friendly.

Is there a shuttle from the airport?

If you arrive at the airport in the morning or in the early afternoon and don't have a lot of luggage, I would recommend you going straight to the Santa Claus Village (if it is on your list). It's near the airport. After the Santa Claus Village, you can take Bus #8 (3.5 Euros one way) to the train station, which is only a 5-minute walk to Borealis.

Its always good to join the local tour, since they take you to the best spots (dark remote places) where the probability of spotting the northern lights is high. At the end of the day, you need clear skies to spot them, irrespective of the prediction on the activity. I ran out of luck during my trip to Rovaniemi in October, since it was cloudy during my complete stay for 3 nights!

For the bus to the city centre, please check with the front desk, actually it takes only 20 min walk. For the bus to inari, it departs at the railway station.
