The chalets are quite spacious and clean. They have their own sauna which is great after outdoor winter activities. The chalet we were in would benefit from a little makeover with some wear and tear on the flooring. The heating was very low (15°C) when we arrived but as those were electric heaters, it heated up rather quickly to a more comfortable temperature.
Not a good or bad point per se (it is well described and I don't know if it is usual for this kind of accommodation) but everyday clean-up services are not included (extra cost). So don't expect a made bed when you come back from activities if you stay two-three days (may be done at longer interval than daily on longer stays).

Perfect location in the middle of the nature of Ounasvaara at the foot of the hill where there are lots of trekking paths and downhill and cross-country ski slopes while remaining just a few minutes by car from Rovaniemi. The chalet is very nice both inside and outside, the parking next to the entrance door is very convenient. A real plus is the private sauna in the bathroom. A little dated in the bathroom and kitchen facilities but everything is still functional. Excellent breakfast, very varied and with typical, fresh products. Try the homemade jams and fruit and vegetable smoothies. The reindeer foie gras and salmon are excellent. Recommended if you want to visit Rovaniemi staying in the middle of nature a stone's throw from the frozen lake, an excellent observation point for the aurora.

would definitely recommend staying here! The staff are so so friendly, kind, patient and definitely made our trip worthwhile. They gave us tips on where to go, booked us taxis and made us feel so welcome. We said we would actually miss them when we left!

The reception/resturant/main part of the site was so cosy and very finnish vibes. They had rocking chairs by a log fire and a big selection of traditional finnish drinks. Although there is no ‘supermarket’ for snacks, food or drinks nearby, we had to catch a taxi 5 minutes down the road for the essentials.

The chalets are gorgeous, so cosy and homely. They all come with a sauna which was super easy to use and perfect after a cold day out!

The chalet has a mini upstairs, kitchen, bathroom, porch and large bedroom including a TV. The site was quiet (at least when we came in November 2024), which made our stay more enjoyable.
The beds were comfortable and the showers were really powerful. The only con was the shower curtains.. which were abit dirty and felt a bit unsanitary.
Everything is really close by, you can see the northern lights literally from the chalet door.
We really recommend the WNTR spa which is a 2 minute walk from the site!!!
We really throughly enjoyed our stay and definitely would come back!!

This was an enjoyable stay – 3 of us in a private chalet for a few days. The resort is a bunch of chalets, divided by a road, located between the bottom of ski slopes and the frozen river. We chose this for the private chalet with private sauna. The chalet was good. Ours was attached to a neighbouring chalet. Steep steps to a second bedroom. Basic kitchen with adequate utensils and we did cook a meal there. Included breakfast was a very varied and well-stocked buffet at the main restaurant building. When it got busy it was like feeding time at the huskey farm, noisy and busy. If you time it right it was more pleasant. The breakfast entertainment was the ONE waffle maker that everyone seemed to want to use.. waiting for the waffles to cook.. and the chaos when people did not spray enough grease on and everything stuck, caused long bottlenecks. Dinner: there is a Euro41 per head buffet that we decided we were just not hungry enough for. There is an “a la carte” dining option for smaller appetites where service was either great or terrible: our first day meal was excellent, attentive staff, helpful, free amuse-bouche starter. Great burger. The next day.. tumbleweeds.. it was like all the staff were on strike. We had to actively go get our own menus, look around for staff to try order… at the end similarly had to walk round and collar a member staff to pay and go. There are no other restaurants within walking distance in the winter, so your options are (and we did all 3): eat at the captive-audience restaurant; or go shopping at the shop at other end of the bridge and cook something yourself, or online order takeaway delivery food. This location is great for the ski slopes, great for just walking about near the ski slopes. You can go down to the river to try escape the glaring light pollution of the ski slopes behind you. It was from here that we saw the norther lights one night, then Light Pillars phenomenon on another night. All in all we had a great time!

We stayed here with TUI as part of a four night trip to Lapland as a family of 4. TUI call the hotel Christmas cottages. The hotel is lovely looking out over the ski slopes.
Our chalet was perfect, just behind the restaurant area so was conveniently located. The chalet had everything we needed and was lovely and clean. The sauna is a great addition to dry your ski wear etc. The steps up to the loft area are steep but our children managed ok.
The beds were comfy but only one pillow.
Breakfast was a great selection of cold and hot food and was really tasty especially the scrambled egg. We were on a bed and breakfast basis but we did pay for an evening meal one night which again was really nice. We also had our Christmas gala meal one evening and the food was lovely. We didn't eat at the bar area but others did and their food looked good. Drinks were very expensive but similar pricing everywhere we went. Approx €30 - €50 for a bottle of wine! €9 for a cider. €5 for a coke.
We got taxis everywhere and used the Taxsini app. Taxi's were approx €25 to get to the city centre and main attractions from here.
The location is great and the kids had hours of fun sledging by the slopes.
We would recommend staying here as we had a great time.

We stayed for 3 nights over new year and had a fabulous time. This was our second visit to Lapland, we love it!

Check in was very poor, we arrived around lunch time and check in is at 4, the lady said our room wasn’t ready but to return in a couple of hours and it might be, if so we could check in early. We did this but someone else was on reception by this point and he made everyone wait until 3.30-4 to check in despite the room keys all being lined up behind him. When we only had a short space of time there we wanted to get in the room and get wrapped up in all our layers and out into the snow asap!

We stayed in chalet 74 which was next to the lake, it was perfect, lots of space, very warm, comfy beds.

There is a lovely area next to the lake, this is a sauna and is an extra cost, we didn’t use it but there is a little cabin which sells drinks, a teepee with a fire lit and an inside seating area which looked over the lake. We enjoyed sitting here with a drink.

Breakfast was good. We only ate off the snack menu once, very limited menu but burger was good. Buffet dinner was very expensive and was going to cost £150 for 2 adults and 2 kids so we decided against this.

We got taxi’s into Rovaniemi and to Santa Claus village, very easy via an app. Roughly 10mins to Rovaniemi and 15 to SCV.

It was very cold when we were there and even the locals were struggling with -35 the day we left. Foot and hand warmers are a must. We had frozen hair and eyelashes!

We were in the middle of nowhere last time so it was good to be closer to amenities this time. Snowman World was much better than we expected, SCV very expensive in general. We did all the usual activities on our previous trip on a much less commercial basis so didn’t need to do any of this at SCV. Ranua Zoo was a nice day out, the main animals weren’t out but they are very focussed on animal welfare.

I would visit Lapland every year if I could!!

The accommodation is clean and warm. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage as a family of 5 including 1 infant.
The stairs are extremely steep to the first floor and I didn’t trust my 8 & 6 year old to sleep up there as my little boy fell down within minutes of arriving.
We had no cot in the room when we arrived for our 10 month old. We headed down tor reception to request one to which I was told we would have to wait until tomorrow! I couldn’t believe it. I spent the first night after an extremely early start sleeping with our baby in the bed. I was really disappointed and for the money we paid (7.5k for 3 nights) I would expect better.
Food was edible but nothing special.
Regardless of this rovaniemi and Lapland itself is absolutely magical and we still had an amazing time.
I would be extremely wary of booking this accommodation though if you are travelling with infants.

Ounasvaara Chalets is in a great location for winter sports: the lift to the slope is a stone's throw away. The cottage village looks nice in the winter lights for a reason. In terms of summer tourism, the area is more problematic: the paint surface of the cottages needs improvement, at least one barbecue roof needs thorough repair and the grass and gravel surface needs clear delineation.
The cottage village is divided into two parts. On the side of the slope are the basic cabins and on the Kemijoki side are the higher level accommodation facilities. Wise from the experience, next time I would choose accommodation on the Kemijoki side.
Half of the basic cottage was clean and renovated from the inside. The bathroom and sauna were impeccable. For cooking, the small kitchen wall was perfect, but dining with, for example, four people would have been really cramped. There was some kind of problem with the air inside the airlock. Since pets are welcome in the cabins, accommodation cannot be recommended for people with asthma, for example.
The breakfast was varied, thank you for that. There could well be two waffle irons. And the staff was dedicated to their work, for which we thank you very much.

This is my second time at staying in these chalets and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. I found the price reasonable there was 7 of us as a family who went and we got cottage number 71 which looks over the lake. Perfect chalet with everything you need in there. Excellent views from the balcony and windows. The northern lights are even visible at the back on a clear night. The reception has sledges that you could use and you can use the ski resort if you wish to but obviously you have to pay. We had breakfast included in our stay I found it had a selection of choices something everyone it had your normal hot breakfast sausage, bacon , scrambled eggs and beans with toast and then it had a selection of cereal, fruit and yogurts and also a selection of pastries and cheese and meats.
As for lunch and dinner we did not eat on the on-site restaurant as the food was very expensive and not much choice unless you like to eat reindeer. So we got McDonald’s delivered to our chalet by using the McDonald’s delivery app on the phone. About a 15 minute walk is a super market you can buy whatever you need a tip is if you go in the show take one of your sledges and then pull the shopping bags back on the sledge it’s a lot easier. We got a taxi from Rovanami airport to the chalet it cost 40 euro. And then Santa Claus village is about 10 minute drive we got a taxi to that cost us 35 euro and if you want to try Rovanami shopping centre that again cost about 30euro in a taxi. Just ring reception from your chalet and ask them to order you a taxi if you need one. Rovanami centre has a variety of restaurants and fast food places that you can eat.
Overall I would stay here again I just wish they would have more of a choice of food on the on site restaurant but the staff were friendly and helpful.

Very bad & rude & unhelpful customer service from the check in moment.
No one even smiles here! I am checking out & changing the hotel. Very dull experience in this hotel. My kids felt very bad throughout our stay . U can go if you are looking for a basic bed to sleep & spend the night but nothing else about the place. My kids needed omelette for breakfast as we don’t eat any pork, it isn’t only that they refused though I mentioned I can pay it extra but the careless & rude behavior of the waiters was very racist ! How come u don’t eat pork ! U don’t find toilet paper in room u have to make ur way in snow to reception to get it . We asked for extra pillows as their pillow is almost no pillow extremely thin & I told receptionist I have a disk in my neck, again reply was unbelievable careless . End result very extremely bad frustrating customer service .

Answer from Samantha W
I know this is an old post but we are wondering the same. What did you choose to do in the end? Where did you meet Santa as part of your TUI package? Thanks.
