With Korvala you can experience a challenging and true husky safari. The tracks go in the forrest with curves and up and down hill slopes. So be prepared on a bumpy but also fun ride if sitting on the sledge. Some other husky safari operators use tracks on ice and wider roads making the ride more smooth, but also more touristic. The dogs are fast and very eager to run, and the most important thing when driving the sledge is to understand how the breaks operate. Jaana, the host will explain and guide you with the breaks beforehand. The scenery along the way is beautiful. We did the 12 km track and could have done even a longer track - it was so much fun. Watch our video on the safari from Youtube: Susa and Masa around the world.
We came with a sister and 2 children to ride a dogs. Husky is all very beautiful and well-groomed. They barked loudly and were eager to rush through the forest. I was traveling with a little daughter, our weight was about 85 kg and we were given 5 dogs to the team. Sister with a son (weight 140 kg) gave 6 dogs. Before the trip we were told how to slow down and stop. The dogs were already eager for the journey. Before the trip, the hostess told and showed how to slow down, stop and turn. But the dogs ride at such a speed that there is literally a few seconds to make a decision. As soon as the dogs were untied, they rushed forward at a frantic speed. The road is narrow and rough, with pits and humps, winding in the forest among the trees. A lot of turns. The sleigh and daughter constantly bounced, I think that it was not very comfortable for her to go there. Our team riding very quickly and it was quite difficult for me to manage it. At the same time, the sister's team rode quite slowly, she constantly had to push the sled. And we often stopped that they could catch us. Most likely, the difference in the weight of the riders affected. On one of the sharp turns that went down, I could not hold the dogs, because they simply didn’t react to the brake, and I didn’t realize to push the stop button and the sled turned over. I drove my face through the snow, tearing my skin, and hit my head on a tree. The daughter fell out of the sleigh. Dogs stopped only when the sled caught on a tree. Sister's dogs, running up to ours, stopped and got confused. The hostess called for help from the farm and the workers came to our aid. They helped unravel the dogs and turn the sled over. The hostess asked if we want to continue the trip or return to the farm. After the incident, there was no longer any desire to ride and we turned towards the farm. I already knew that my team can be slowed down or stopped only by pressing the stop. ))) At the farm, we were offered warm drinks with cookies and conducted an excursion to the dogs. The hostess told and showed everyone her dogs. Now, it seems to me, I already know how to properly manage husky and would ride again)) By the way, then the children rode in sled in the Santa Claus Village, where farm workers ride the dogs. So there the road was wide, smooth and well cleared. Riding in a sleigh was much more pleasant.…
We had an amazing time there. The Husky Safari was one of our favourite experiences during our stay in Rovaniemi. Away from the crowds in the middle of the Finnish forest we were able to self-drive our sleigh of husky dogs on a 12km track. A beautiful experience and the dogs were so well trained and cared for. It was evident that this is a family business and each dog gets the care their need. They are treated as a family member. Afterwards we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked lunch of reindeer soup and blueberry cake. We took the bus from Rovaniemi here which took 1 hour and was really easy. We had two hours after the husky ride until the bus came so the son of the family operating the tours and holiday village recommended a private sauna and ice lake swim to us. Very well priced for an hour - 25 Euros with towels. It was an unforgettable experience and a true Finnish experience. Overall we can highly recommend the Husky tour and this place for any other activities and even a stay during a trip to Finnland.…
Stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely loved it! Lodge was fairly basic but clean and warm. Scenery was stunning and there was plenty of snow. You can borrow skis and sledges which was great fun. We did the 4K husky ride, which was fantastic. Would highly recommend this place.
We took 12 km morning husky ride, through the forest, around the lake. It was A_W_E_S_O_M_E, it was the best day of the entire long holiday in Lapland. We were the only ones to do 12 km, so we could visit kennel of 82 dogs while 2 couples did a short ride. Then our turn came, and the host was so kind (!!!!) to drive my kid with a separate pack (!!!!), leaving myself and the other kid with the original husky pack. It was exclusively kind and pleasant, and indeed above all expectations. Forest, silence, snow, freshness, wilderness, you and dogs, for the entire hour or so. The experience with this family business goes at no comparison to mass products by travel companies. You can feel immediately that dogs are loved here and visitors are accepted with pleasure. Another thing was lunch. We booked in advance, and I must say, that was the best luch we had during the holiday: fresh, homemade and simple, with real local products coocked by the host. Thank you very much for this nice day and unforgettable memories. All he best to you and your dogs !!!…
