We are situated in Rovaniemi on the Kemi road. On the 4 ha area surrounded with forest there is a reception, a café, a sauna, a special parking for caravans and a summer camping-site. Cottages and motelrooms are arranged aroung a little artificial pond. Animals, including reindeers are kept in spacious enclosures on the Rova-hotelli territory. In cottages and motel rooms you will find an equipped mini-kitchen with a fridge, a microwave oven and a cooker; a toilet; a shower; satellite TV; a parking with electric outlets. There is a verandah in cottages and extra facilities like a sauna, a fireplace, a dishwasher and floor heating in some rooms. On reception there is a café and a bar with open verandah, a PC connected to Internet and satellite TV.Rova-hotelli is able to receive 200 people, and it was renewed in the summer of 2007.

We've had an amazing 7 days here. Snows overnight, then clear with sun most days/evenings. Saw Northern lights.
We had a clean, warm unit in a block of 12 with 2 single beds, however, there's 1 single and 1 small double. The unit has a dining table, sofa bed, wardrobe, TV ( 2 channels in English), underfloor heating, 2 electric hot plates, kettle, microwave, filtered coffee machine, bar fridge with freezer, sink, crockery, cutlery etc. Good shower.
PRO'S: quiet & peaceful, public bus stop out the front €3.60 single trip to centre with limited timetable, public lounge area with tables, tea/coffee machine. Parking space at unit. BBQ area. Playground. Walks in the forest.
CON'S: some tourist operators won't pick-up here, taxi into town centre cost €22 one-way, limited bus times on weekend, no milk etc for sale at reception, no oven, grill or toaster, long slippery walk on ice from reception to unit with luggage, (there are small, plastic sleds at reception we found later on) Hire of linen & towels is required.
TIPS: Bring food, towels, crampons, car.
Overall we had a fantastic time and didn't want to go home.

We have stayed there during Christams. There are about 15 cottages of different sizes. Ours was Nr. 5. There was a separate bedroom with one double bed and one single bed, and room with 2 sofas and kitchen. Shower and sauna was also in the cottage. The place has a fire place. Initially they told us the cottage fited only 4 persons, but there was anough room for all 5 of us, they also provided us with 5 pillows and blankets. We took our bedsheets and towels, because they provide it for extra fee. The kitchen had all the utilities needed, so we cooked all our meals (we took most of the food from home). The cottages are situated aprox. 10 - 15 minutes drive from the centre of Rovaniemi. Taxi costs 20-25 EUR one way. Trip to airport would be 40-50 EUR. There is a bus Nr 14 stop right next to the hotel. The schedule can be found here: http://rovaniemi.matkahuolto.info/
It is quite convinient to get around by bus, but it does not go on public holidays, or have limited schedule, so it is advisable to look for each day separately.
The cottages are clean and very cosy. The personnel speaks Finnish, English and Russian.

We went there during christmas 2010. Since it is located away from the city, the rates are quite reasonable. We stayed in the cottage right next to the reception. There is a kitchen (with microwave, fridge, hot plate), dining table, a sofa, a bed room with a nice large double bed, a fireplace, a bathroom with an attached sauna and a TV. With the fireplace on, the slight warm smokey air transforms the experience of the room! The temperatures outside can go down to -30 or -40 sometimes. There is a decent spread for breakfast. (Nothing to really speak of!). Do plan your trip keeping solar activity into account, so that you can catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. The location of the Rova hotelli is just off the highway, but the premise is surrounded by trees for many kilometers. Don't be surprised to find reindeer grazing outside your room in the morning!
During public holidays it is rather difficult to find public transport at convenient times. So, best to rent a car. That way one is independent. And the winters here can be harsh, not a good feeling if you are stranded waiting for a bus! Keep the local taxi company's phone numbers handy.
Nice place, removed from the city. But if you have the money and book in advance stay in the city. Finns are private people, you won't find a soul on the roads during Christmas eve, but if you walk into any bar or hotel in the city, it will be throbbing with warmth and fun!

We cannot recommend Motelli at all. The cabin was dirty and haven’t been cleaned before our stay. Bed uncomfortable, interior warn down, further the cabin view to the heavy machinery workshop is not worth spending one day there. We stayed 1 out of 4 booked nights and when complained Motelli cancelled our stay and did not return the money for the unused days. Booked via Booking.com who don’t want to do nothing. Stay away from Motelli and Booking.com

The cabin was dirty, everything very old, specially all the items in the kitchen. The beds were terrible for sleeping, ever time you turned the whole bed moved to a side or an other. The sauna was disgusting, the bench were totally black and no light inside. No wifi, and no working aircon. On top of this just opposite the cabin the area looked like a dumpster. I spent one night ( out of 4)because no choice and thenleft, only used bed and toilet, the necessary, the rest was too disgusting. I asked for refund, they refused it. Then they cancelled my stay so I couldn’t put a review in booking and still didn’t refund. They lied to booking and said that I didn’t checked in, also they said that I didn’t notify them of my unconformity with the stay. They lied about many things to justify to non- refund.
Definitely don’t recommend the place at all, it’s a total scam.

We had a very nice stay in this Motel. Rooms comes with the necessary equipments (Kitchenette),you can park your car in front of your Hut, laudry service is for free.
Common area is simple but nice with a Hockey table (kind of stiga).
Staff was nice and ready to help.
Location is perfect since it 10 to 15 minutes away from Santa village and Santa Park.
Point of improvment:it would be nice to have the possibility to book a continental breakfast if needed.
Anyway we do recommend the place, children had good time building snowmen and running in the snow.

We stayed at this motel for a week. The room was not cleaned the entire time. We were provided with 3 rolls of toilet paper for 2 people. When we ran out it took two visits to the reception and a long wait to get extras. Beware that they charge you got bed linen and pillow cases (10 euros in winter months). The motel is about 15 minute taxi ride from the centre of Rovaniemi. Depending on the time of day, be prepared to pay between 22-35 Euros one way to get into town. The internet connection is only available in the reception. There is a week other signal that’s supposed to work in the cabins but it doesn’t. There are no shops or grocery stores within walking distance. On the plus side, the nature around the motel is nice if you want to take walks. The TV channels were mainly Russian and Eastern European on a satellite dish. The room itself is ok though the beds are fairly narrow. There are no blankets, just a thin duvet and cover if you rent the linen.

Expensive and old fashioned.Pay extra for bedlinen, towels and almost everything else...Rooms were cold and it takes a while until electric heating does the job. Not quite close to the city coming by car is a must, otherwise poor connections.

We stayed in the wooden house for two nights. Great experience in winter wonderland with tons of snow and magic white all around. After all snow attractions, the sauna inside our little house was an incredible idea! Heated floor was extremely great idea for wet winter clothes and shoes to dry quickly and enjoy further winter attractions in and around Rovaniemi.

Second time here, this time we spent a night in a cottage. Cottages seem to be somewhat old but they have been renovate to meet the modern standards. Nice beds, small but functional kitchen, quiet and a big plus for the bunnies, dogs boars and other animals :) Shower/toilet combination was a bit crowded and you need to be careful with the hot water as it is literally boiling... Very good value for the money!
