I took a weekend trip to Rovaniemi and stayed for the first time at over 80 years old Pohjanhovi hotel. Have to say that I was positively surprised. A clean room (with a balcony!) was on the 5th floor and towards the river, which offered a fabulous and extraordinary view. Breakfast at the first-floor restaurant was also very good—nice hot and cold varieties. And of course with a view to the river. Customer service was also really good and helpful. The only minor issue was that the room was a bit outdated, but the hotel seems to renew them currently. However, it is easy to recommend Hotel Pohjanhovi for your stay.
Excellent location in Rovaniemi. We stayed in a very nice room in the main building with a beautiful view of the river. Staff is very nice, especially Juuli who is awesome, smiling and friendly all the time even after a long day at work. The pool is somewhat heated, not warm but ok if you actually swim. I loved that the pool and sauna are open till 10 pm and doesn’t close early so guests may enjoy the pool after a day full of activities. Saunas are separate for men and women. I think towels should be provided at the pool, but you can ask reception and they will give you a towel. The reason I am giving a 4 star review instead of 5 stars is because in my opinion they could offer more options at meals. There was not an omelette station , that’s understandable considering that many groups stay in this hotel, but unfortunately the scrambled eggs were not very tasty each day (perhaps somewhat undercooked ). Every evening french fries were available, I think they should have more family friendly options such as pizza or pasta for the younger guests. Many of the kids in our group preferred to eat out because the didn’t like the food very much. On the positive side, there was a salad bar at all meals and desserts. This hotel is a very good option when visiting Lapland, in the center with pubs, restaurants, and shopping centers very close , and of course the beautiful river. The dining room offers beautiful views of the river.…
Hôtel with a proud history and nice location, in the city centre, near the river and close to pickup for excursions. However the hotel is very old, not very well maintained and dirty. Poor cleaning service, old linen, terrible bathroom with old plastic and no furniture… Avoid if you wish to relax after your daily activities in Lapland
Very good location with a fantastic view for the frozen river. Near everithing with sauna, pool and a big restaurant. Very nice staff, very attencious and sympatic people. The "take away" service was very good and the food was very nice.
The hotel is very well located, 5 minutes to the center of the town, next to the river. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast buffet is very good. However, they never change the table clothes so you will eat with the previous guest’s crumbs. The room floor seems to have never been vaccumed. If you have dinner, they will kick you out at 8pm, literally.
I were for Christmas with my family and we found a nice hotel, easy to reach even for thos on foot. well served by bus and taxi. Very helpfull and kind staff. well stocked and very good buffet restaurant.
We stayed at this hotel for three nights. I saw from pictures and the internet that this hotel had a proud history. What I saw when I got there was a spacious but dirty room. I could clearly see urine on the toilet wall. The staff didn’t clean the rooms very well. What’s more, our room was in the second building and on the ground floor there is a safari company. Every night they closed the door so if you were late you had to use the side door and take the stairs as the elevator doors are in the safary company space. Clearly the management can do better than that. Every guest needs a clean room after a snowy day. It’s the least you should get with that kind of high prices.
The hotel is dived in 2 building, so make sure to find out where are you staying before making a reservation, because if you are in the second building you have to cross the street in the cold just to have breakfast and the elevator on that building works only from 9 am to 6 pm. The mattress on the bed are non-existent,the room was dirty, there isn’t a phone so you can’t contact the main desk. We had to ask a few times because they didn’t daily clean our room, stuff really unhelpful with any problem we had. One of our jacket went missing from our room. The only positive things are that breakfast was decent overall and the location is good because is in the heart of Rovaniemi. But the hotel is absolutely not a four star hotel, and the price is definì too high for the service they provide…
We booked here quite late for our trip over Christmas. The reviews were accurate in that the place is very dated, but that alone would not put us off from staying as location is very good, right by the river and town centre and reception staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet nice quality and wide ranging so there should be something for everyone and there was a separate gluten free and vegan section. Rooms tired, but could be better with a little maintenance and cleaning. Fridge was helpful. Bed comfortable, but sheets were scratchy and not changed during our stay. It seemed that making the room up meant emptying the bin and replacing used towels and cups only. The sofa bed was not comfortable for the kids as the cushions kept slipping down as they were not fixed underneath, but we fixed by layering up some extra cushions so was fine. The pool was open despite the booking site saying it was closed. This seemed clean and not many people using it. It could be really nice with a little TLC.…
We came here for a family trip. The pictures are nothing like what the rooms actually are. We checked in and went to our rooms and promptly checked out. This place is old the rooms are tiny, broken furniture, disgusting floors and bathroom. Don’t waste your time.
