We stayed here in November during a 3 day visit to Lapland. The hotel itself is a little outside the city and perfect location to catch the northern lights which we caught a glimpse of at the lake around the warm fire. It has a rich history has a very warm Friendly feel and we have since recommend it to others.
When we arrived there was a very pleasant receptionist who checked us in and gave us the key, the room was clean and big enough.
But upon getting to the room we noticed that only 2 out of the 3 beds were made so we asked at reception only to be told we had only
Booked for 2 people, we checked our confirmation and there had obviously been a mix up from the 3rd party booking site. Although we’d booked a room for 3 and put this information into the booking the reception only had this recorded for 2 people, it took a while and I think it was the manager was a little abrupt about us not paying/booking for 3 people which we had (and we even offered to pay for our 5 year old, who was on our original
Confirmation) it was quickly resolved at no extra cost but we where told we would have to contact the third party to report this.
The restaurant served a lovely evening food which as reasonably priced, the breakfast was good even for my fussy child they had pastries and there was a small variety of items. The second day it was very busy so we couldn’t get a table so we checked out and ate elsewhere.
The hotel is quiet, in a great location to reach all the tourist sights and we got a fanatic view of the northern lights.

On June 1, 2024, I arrived in Rovaniemi and then at the accommodation in Muurola . The host, a particularly sociable man, introduced us to the hotel's facilities, including the breakfast schedule. I told him that since we would be leaving early in the morning on our way to Sweden, we would not be able to serve breakfast, even though I had paid for it in advance. The man told us that he would prepare a packed breakfast for us and that we would receive it in the room. We went for a walk along the water's edge and to the nearby sauna, after which we walked a bit through the woods near the location. We returned to the hotel and were pleasantly impressed by the way it looked inside: the lobby, the room, the bathroom... When we entered the room, on the table we found the package with the fruits and juices prepared for the trip, and in the fridge four huge sandwiches. I was amazed by the speed and willingness of the host to be in the assent of the travelers. I went down to the reception and thanked him for his kindness and told him that I was impressed by the beauty of the place, by the sauna on the waterfront. He informed me that in addition to the outdoor sauna, there is also an indoor sauna, which is used by women until 19.30, and then by men until 21.00. I told him that I would have liked to enter the sauna with my wife, but because access is by gender, we will enter another time. The host told me that there is this possibility, and that they will make the sauna available for us, but after 21.00. At 21.15 we went down to the reception, where the host led us to the sauna in the basement of the hotel and handed us the key to the access door telling us to lock up and enjoy the sauna. I enjoyed the experience thinking what extraordinary person can think to please the guests. Upon exiting the sauna, I handed him the key and thanked him once more. I regret that I could not stay at least one more day at this location. The experience with this host surpasses any other stays I've had over the years all over the world.
Sincere congratulations and let's hope that we will stay at this Hotel Metsahirvas soon.

We really liked the location of the hotel being able to perform all the activities there in the middle of nature without taking the car to fish , see the auroras or ride a snowmobile. It is 15 min from the village center and 20 min from the village of Santa Claus. We will definitely repeat. Thank you very much to Mikkos and the rest of the hotel staff.

We had a lovely time here... The staff were lovely and the rooms were great... I would recommend that if you are a big group it can be very expensive to get in and out of Santa's village. If only a group of 4 it would be fine... Buses are a good option but the only problem is that they are very sparse on the weekends. The grounds of the hotel is gorgeous and the little hut by the lake where you can watch northern lights by a fire is a super touch...

We stayed in the hotel for a week and felt very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. We had booked with breakfast and ate several times in the restaurant in the evening. Both the breakfast and dinner were to our liking and we were pleased with it. Since we wanted to go to the sauna as a couple, we were able to do it outside the actual usage hours (18:00 to 21:00 in separate groups) without any problems before. With “Pure Lapland” we had booked some tours, all of which started at the hotel (no transfer needed). On the nearby lake we were able to walk extensively and saw the Northern Lights at the hotel in the evening.
Our room was spacious and the bathroom very large. Since the bathroom has underfloor heating, it was always pleasant there, and the heating in the room has made this neatly warm even at -27 degrees.
The city can be reached by hotel shuttle or public transport, the latter is cheaper and works very well on weekdays. On Saturdays and Sundays the offer is very thin.
We would take this place again.

Choosing this hotel for our trip was a key success factor for our private tour. The hotel hosts Pure Lapland tour operators that were an excellence choice for Husky experience and Snow mobile tours. The hotel is only 20 minutes drive to Rovaniemi centre and it lies close to the Icy river. Breakfast with hot buffet was very good. Most important is the reception staff which are most attentive, friendly and provide objective and accurate information + recommendations about the available attractions in the region. Thanks to their advice we found an excellent Aurora Hunter that made our aurora watching a remarkable experience.

Really great hotel and great experience , staff super friendly throughout the hotel , were able to knock up a pasta dish for a fussy 4 year old . Excellent facilities all round and the apartment was very cool . Not a complaint but a way to enhance experience - the hotel pinged me before our trip on Expedia which was great as was able to book airport pickup etc , but would of been great if they had discussed a welcome box for the fridge with some basic groceries as we arrived just after lunch and the hotel restaurant was closed and no bar menu or room service - again not a complaint but adding a reindeer burger and or beef burger to the menu at the restaurant and providing a bar menu / small room service menu of sandwiches / toasties would have easily enhanced the experience overall. Many thanks though to everyone that works here you do have something amazing overall and we had a great time

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. The location out of town provided a quiet nature surrounding, but required transportation into town and back. I recommend that you book all activities from the hotel, which will save you lots of travel.
The hotel feels very homey and intimate. The staff are very warm and helpful, and feel almost like family. The room was not big, but it had everything we needed and a window to the snowy back yard, frozen lake & forest. Nice!
Buffet breakfast was varied, though it was the same every day.
I recommend the Metsahirvas especially for couples looking for a quiet homey place.
