Apukka Resort Rovaniemi has garnered compliments for its cleanliness and stylish comfort, nestled in a tranquil setting convenient to the airport and local sights. Guests are captivated by the rooms' views, yet some have raised concerns about value, pointing to the high cost of shuttles and activities. While the atmosphere is generally considered cozy and magical, the experience is sometimes marred by disturbances.
The resort's amenities are appreciated, although additional costs can be a drawback. Visitors commend the friendly service, despite occasional disorganization.

Property's Favourite Review
After extensive research we chose Aupukka for our family holiday.
We spent x5 nights in a Kammi Class igloo and booked lots of activities.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and were looked after by the very friendly and helpful staff.
The igloo was perfect for our family of 3, it was clean, modern and had everything we needed.
All the activities were ran by friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff and at no point did we feel rushed. Snowmobiling with Erwin was a particular highlight.
The breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice, both hot and cold.
We pre-booked and paid for half board for 4 nights of our stay, This was the only negative for me and I wouldn't do this again. Its no cheaper booking and paying up front than if you just rock up that evening. The starter and dessert are buffet and you get to choice your main meal from 2 options. Although what we had was nice, if you didn't like either of the 2 options you were stuck. We also tried to swap our pre-booked half board for the A La Carte menu on our last night and although initially being told we couldn't, they did allow it but only gave us 40% of our pre-paid monies towards the cost. Dont get me wrong, all the food was really nice but by pre-booking we boxed ourselves into a corner and had no option to try the other restaurant onsite.
I would highly recommend Apukka and 100% stay here again but simply not book any dining options in advance.

I appreciate that we probably had the best of the weather and experience of the Northern Lights so far this winter but the staff, accommodation, activities and location made our visit magical.
Everything we wanted to do in five days was easy to book and while it emptied the holiday savings account it was worth every euro. The restaurant produces great tasting dishes from good quality ingredients and while there is not a huge range of choice we found plenty to enjoy from each breakfast and dinner buffet.
The Aurora Cabins are really comfortable they are kept very clean and warm. The views and the natural light from the stars, moon, sunrises and sunsets are perfect. The heated glass keeps them clear at all times.
The people working at Apukka are all helpful, knowledgeable and rightly proud of what they do. Each individual we met was warm and friendly during our visit. Our guides on the activities took great care of everyone whatever their age or ability.
The resort’s website can be used to plan your wish list of experiences before going but it is easy to create your own itinerary while you are there with the help of the reception staff.
I can recommend Apukka for anyone wanting a magical winter break to experience the natural world but with a touch of luxury!

Came here for a get away from it all break and had the most wonderful time. We stayed in the Aurora cabins and they had everything we needed, a great shower, 20 minutes was ample time for the two of us to have showers, tea and coffee, a fridge, ample space to hang outdoor coats and cupboard space for other clothing. The Aitta restaurant served wholesome local food that was very tasty and breakfast, although the same each day, was plentiful.
We took part in lots of activities that included an Aurora hunt, husky sledding at night, scary but very exiting to be in control, or not, of a pack of huskies. Ski mobiling through the forest and not to mention the snow shoeing in dense woodland. I must say a big thank you to Kristina our guide who looked after us during snow shoeing and passed on her wealth of knowledge to us.
Thank you to all the staff who were very welcoming and always seemed to have a smile on their face, even at -26 degrees.
We will be recommending the Apukka resort to our friends back home.

Dear Paul, Thank you for the feedback. We are happy to hear you had a good stay in Apukka Resort. The water supply is to save the drinking water, that is why we do not have too big hot water containers in the cabins. Glad that the activities were nice. We tend to say that the nature fulfills the rest, and it sure does, together with the guides on activities. We hope to be able to welcome you as a dear friend again! I would highly recommend Apukka as we stayed in the KOMSIO Suite
One of the amazing experience we had !
The design of the wood on the wall was amazing ! Even my mum on FaceTime saw it and loved it!
The bed needs to be improved it wasn’t comfortable the double bed is not sticks to together, they look like two single beds next to each other!
The bathroom needs to be improved also they didn’t put any kits like a tooth brush, shaving kit etc...
the design of the glass roof oh amazing I also loved the heater for the windows and the roof when ever there was snow we would open it and all the snow melts very good idea but I figured it out on my last night (I wish they would have told us from the beginning) at least print a paper that explains what we have in the room
The hot chocolate was very tasty !!
I even loved how they clean our porch every morning
They brought out luggage with a sled 🛷 to the room very good so we don’t pull our bags in the snow
The staff were very very friendly loved how they smile and try to help you with every way they can
Love the Resturant staff
Breakfast need more variety for vegetarian people, it was decent.
We went on a finish horse back riding it was a great experience! Loved the horses but there was a crazy horse (black and white) I think they should change him 😂 he wasn’t friendly
They also have a bus that cost 12 € per person (round trip) to Santa village
Overall one of our most memorable stay in Finland and we do hope to come back again 😻

I stayed here with my girlfriend for our anniversary. The suite was beautiful and amazing however it's double the price of the regular glass roof cabins but you don't get that much more bang for you buck. The 360° views are really cool and so is the loft style bed, however I don't feel the Komsio is worth the price tag. For the price you're charged it should come with some extra perks, after all it is a suite. It would be nice if a free sauna session was thrown in or half of your dinners or lunches. The shower is amazing and really cool but short hot water times. Not a big deal though you still get decent showers.
We also did the aurora husky tour. The tour was okay. The dogs were pretty slow and there was only 5 of them to our sled which I was surprised at. I thought we would have 6-8 but I'm sure they know if 5 is a good amount or not. They guides were really friendly and nice and we got to stop halfway for photos and to change drivers if you're in a couple or group. We didn't see the lights as it was snowing the whole time we were there which is a shame but can't be helped. They lend you warm clothes too.
The resort itself was really nice. Secluded but not terribly far away from town. The staff were super friendly and nice and always bent over backwards to make you happy (at least in my experience). They let you use the snow suits and other warm stuff for free if you want to and they have tubes you can borrow to go down a few slides they have on their tower.
The breakfast was pretty decent, however, I would like to say I wished there were more options re: pastries, juices, eggs etc. But still a decent spread and quite tasty.
The only thing I'll say is if you can afford it rent a car! The public transport is hard to navigate and sometimes can be costly!! Also this is a trip to do later in life when you're more financially stable and not for young 20 year olds. It's quite costly haha.
Overall it was a nice experience but I'm giving it 3 stars just because I didn't feel I got my value for money with the suite and I was disappointed in the dogs. Perhaps they could invent a shorter tour where you get to have more dogs on a sled and get to go faster. Just a thought. It was so beautiful up in Lapland and would recommend the area!

Dear Iachiea, Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear our service as good as we wish to make our guest to feel welcome as a dear friend. We appreciate your honest feedback. We hope we can use your experience when inventing our services further. There are separate water containers in Aurora Cabins and Komsio suites. It has been investigated that the amount of water should be good for 2 persons if the water is not running when it is not used during the shower. This solution has been made as the first step towards nature friendly resort. We are happy to hear you had a decent shower taken despite this so it shows it should be enough. The number of huskies in teams is decided by the husky owners and they do know their dogs. The dogs have been trained to take their place in the team pulling the sledge and they are eager to do it when they are chosen and harnessed in front of the sledge. The owner decides how many dogs is needed for each team so I think we have to trust them. I have been on two safaris this winter and on both times the weather was close to 0 degrees. It is too warm for the dogs, they run best in -30 degrees, which again is not that good for us human beings. In both times there were 5-6 dogs in each team and it all went well. By telling this I try to tell that the speed is not only due to the number of dogs in the team but also the weather conditions and how the snow is has a big affect on the sleigh ride. With the Komsio suites we value your ideas. We need to reconsider all amenities and services to add the value of the suite. We thank you for staying with us and hope to see you again in Lapland! Kind regards, Kati Nivala Apukka Resort Team

Trying to be fair, it seems Rovaniemi suffers the ”island cost syndrome”: expensive! as you get little for what you pay. Probably its remoteness and Santa Claus over-exploitation underlines the higher costs. Be prepared to get less than what you expect for the price paid.
That said, specifically the Apukka resort has its positives and its negatives. The newer cabins (where we stayed) have a great design with quality and warm cozy atmosphere. Can not attest to other cabins as we did not get to see one. Resort staff are amicable with a smile. The location by the lake side is superb and the distance from town not bad; although prepare to spend a small fortune in taxis.
The main negative is the food. My 13yr old could not had said it better: it’s like summer camp food. For the price paid it should’ve been closer to a Four Season brunch buffet.
There are enough activities for a 3 days stay. Again, staff and service providers are nice with a smile, but the activities are at a minimum in terms of adventure. They are good enough for kids, but for adults they are but a small taste. For example, snowmobile 2 hr safari goes on an 8 figure ride around the woods not far from the resort; the snowshoeing is 3 km long, never venturing far; the dogsledding is a short ride around a small near lake… again, good introduction but never more.
Finally, the cabin. It was new, maybe ‘too new’ and never tested, as it has some nuances: water came out in big amounts from under the shower and a bit from under the sink; the heating for the upper windows was too much (unbearable to sleep at the upper level) , even when set at different intervals. We requested assistance from maintenance and the given solution was: turn on the A/C to cool off (with -15 C outside!) and water from shower has been fixed to “a little problem”… which meant 30% (instead of 50%) of bathroom floor would have water after a very short shower. We ended up switching off the window heating system at the main voltage panel and using extra towels for the bathroom floor.
In all, Lapland is enchanting, the people are nice, Apukka has superb views by a lake shore, very nice charming cabins, with quite bad food, little staff at the restaurant and small incapable maintenance personnel (although nice attitude). Activities are good with kids or if for first time for adults.
All in, until reviews attest for better experience, look for other alternative (probably different destination).

Hi! Thank you for the feedback! We are happy that you enjoyed your time with us, even though you faced some inconveniences too. We take your feedback seriously and make sure that we serve our guests better in the future. Finland is an expensive country, and prices are even higher during the peak season in December. However, in Apukka Resort, prices are average compared to other companies in Rovaniemi and Lapland. Best Regards, Kaisa / Apukka Resort team

We stayed at Apukka for our honeymoon, first in one of the apartments and then for two nights in an Aurora Cabin.
The resort is in a good location: close to Santa Claus Village, the city and the airport, with reasonably regular bus services. Take a look at the timetable for the normal service buses as well as the shuttle bus (as they offer more options).
There are also plenty of activities which operate from the resort, meaning no need to travel whether you want to go on a reindeer ride, snow shoeing or on a trip to try to find the Northern Lights. We took part in a couple of activities at the resort, and they were both run professional, knowledgeable and friendly guides.
The accommodation was good - the apartment was spacious and well resourced, and the Aurora Cabin comfortable and perfect for Northern Lights spotting. If you're staying for a while I'd recommend booking the apartment for most of your time and the Aurora Cabin for the final few nights to get the best value for money.
The reception staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help us on a number of occasions.
The restaurant was good, both the quality and range of the food and the service. My only criticism would be that the buffet option was overpriced for what it was. Whilst the main course was often good, the starters and desserts were usually uninspiring and at €40 each we tried to avoid it.
Whilst obviously there are no guarantees, we saw the Northern Lights four times during our nine night stay. The frozen lake was a particularly good place to stand but the Aurora Cabin also offered a great view.
Overall we had a great honeymoon and would recommend Apukka to other travellers.

Overall we had a great honeymoon and would recommend Apukka to other travellers.

We stayed in the aurora cabins. I felt the cabins were designed very average as compared to the rent we payed. Also there were no services, e.g. room service or complementary hot beverages at the reception, etc. Breakfast options were not that great - there could have been more options with juices, pastries, etc.
We also participated in some activities which we did enjoy e.g. snow mobile and the husky ride. For Apukka snow and fun experience, most of the planned activities were free for residents anyways. The husky and rain deer rides were just to short, so we came off feeling not getting value for money and time. I would have rather booked a long husky ride.
We also did the sauna which was good. location of the sauna could be better. Currently it faces the high way. Also they could make the experience much better with some light music and health drinks, etc. People and service is polite but nothing extravagant.
So overall value for money was the main theme here. No luxury, just bare essentials.

Dear AmritaVk, Thank you for the feedback. We appreciate all feedback and take all under consideration in developing our services. We are sorry to hear you feel that way. About breakfast. There is a juice dispenser providing blueberry, cranberry and orange juice as well as fresh water. In addition to this there is berry juice and water in cans too. In the bread selection we have more local types of bread and pastry than international, as we want to serve local products to our guests. In the brochure text about The Snow and Fun day in Apukka there is said that husky and reindeer rides are short. This is also told by the guide when you go to the husky and reindeer rides. The longer husky and reindeer rides are recommended for adults instead of the Snow and Fun. The ice sculpting and mini snowmobile riding for children are not in free use of clients staying in Apukka Resort. Sometimes clients appreciate guidance for the free equipment and how to use them, that is why we are keeping it within this activity. About the sauna. When you are in the sauna and jacuzzi, there is a high fence covering your privacy. When using the ice sauna you only need to get out of the fence area. The ice sauna is only a short time out of the 90 min time you have the sauna department in your private use. In Finland we recommend to drink the pure tab water. The entrance to the sauna is facing the walking way to Villa Apukka and the arboretum, not the high way. We know that service standards are different among people from different cultures. We do our best to provide good service to all our guests. We hope to see you again! Kind regards, Kati Nivala Apukka Resort Team

Eet Nice lication, perfect hotel, good accomodation. Two remarks: staff could have been friendlier and I would never pay the extra charge again for the Aurora Room. The room itself was quite nice, but the likelyhood of spotting the Northern lights from your room is just to slim. You better buy an app that sends an alert and then go outside to see the phenomenon...

Dear Friend, Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry you had a bad luck when meeting our staff. Sometimes everyone has a bad day but that should never affect the work. We are sorry for that. We have compared our prices to the prices of other aurora accommodation around Rovaniemi and in this comparison our prices are very reasonable. We are sorry your experience was different. We do recommend the app as the cameras the watch the sky right above Apukka and when they react the Auroras are to be seen there. We hope to welcome you again as a dear friend. Kind regards, Kati Apukka Resort Team

When ordering we informed about vegetarian diet, also when we checked in. First day we didnt eat because of very less option of vegetarian food. Second day we asked for some options again and after asking the chef 3 times they could make clear vegetable soup. Had to discuss for half hour to get minimal options. We got the food and the soup was tomato stew... didn’t taste good and payed 25 Euros with pizza - payed same prices as if it was meat. Really disappointing when we pay 300 Euros per night. Aurora wake up call costs also 10 euros and everything is charged. In a resort you don’t expect to pay ridiculous prices for saunas and jacuzzi. Room was good though but we will not choose this hotel again..

Dear Nazli, Thank you for the review. We are sorry for the experience from the Aitta Restaurant. We will give them feedback to be better prepared for the vegetarian meals. Our Sauna has been very popular among our guests because of the privacy. All clients can reserve the sauna for them privately for 1,5, hours and get the guides instructions before getting started. With kindest regards, Kati Nivala Apukka Resort Team

Hey! Google Apukka Resort Gallery Map. Go to Images, you'll see a resort plan with cabin numbers :) it's an amazing place !
I'm not 100% sure about visiting any time to have a walk around though I'm pretty sure you can, it's worth noting you'd only be able to see the 2 or 3 reindeers in a fenced in area behind the main resaurant at the resort though, as the main herd of reindeers live across the road and you have to be on one of their tours to go there. I'd really recommend the tours if you're interested in reindeer - I did one in the autumn to feed the reindeers and really enjoyed it.
They also have free open days every now and then when anyone can come and walk around and they have reindeer sleigh rides and meet the huskies so it might be worth keeping an eye out to see if they have one of those coming up any time soon.

Royal Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom36 contributions12 helpful votesHi there, we are visiting in February. Any advice please on what clothes to wear when not doing activities, and what to wear if doing the horse riding trip? Thanks so much.
Hi! Sorry for the late reply. If you stay with us, you'll get winter clothing for the whole stay. The same clothing works for all activities.
Best Regards, Kaisa / Apukka Resort team
