Santa’s Igloos are cozy and comfortable. It reminded us of luxury cruise ship accommodations in compactness and functionality. Temperature can be easily controlled, and was always perfect. There is a button you press to melt snow and ice off the glass roof to keep it clear for star gazing or the aurora (should you be lucky to see them - use the aurora alarm to try). The igloos with a sauna are connected to another igloo, but luckily it was vacant during our stay. They do not have stand alone igloos with sauna, so opt for the premium igloo without sauna for maximum privacy or book sauna igloo with a connected igloo. There were sleds available for guests to use on property. Things we would improve about the igloos: more storage shelves (cabinets are mainly used as utility closets and locked) and individual toiletries instead of pump bottles on the wall. It would also be great to have some upgraded igloos available with a hot tub outside! The price included breakfast and dinner (labeled as evening snack, but it was substantial enough for dinner). Breakfast was a bit hit and miss: there were some basics usually included in Finnish hotel breakfast (yogurt, bread, salmon), but there were no plain scrambled eggs (only eggs mixed with potatoes, which were extremely salty) and boiled eggs were too soft to our liking (7-minute eggs). One morning there were no croissants. Waffle bar, however, was a nice feature. Evening dinner was a buffet and excellent in variety and flavor. We found plenty of foods to enjoy at dinner. The staff were pleasant and friendly. The walk to Santa Claus Village was a bit longer than from most of the resorts in the area, but it was not a problem to us. We loved being able to walk to all the attractions. As for COVID safety, the staff wore masks and guests were not required to. It bothered us a bit to see some guests go back to the buffet with a used plate - this should not be allowed, especially during the pandemic. We also did not like how despite ample seating other guests would pick a table right next to ours. Social distancing could have been managed better with friendly reminders (don’t leave it up to the guests). …
Dream it possible! What’s an amazing experience to stay in a room surrounded with glass windows, walls where snows fall. If your lucky enough, you can wait to appear Aurora Borealis right in your own room😀
This was a very interesting place. Close to Santa's Village, the igloos are essentially studios with glass windows and ceilings covering half of the dwelling and a bathroom with a closet and storage near the entrance. Perfect for viewing the northern lights, the igloos offered enough opportunity for privacy with curtains that could be pulled to cover the windows while still allowing for an excellent and unobstructed view of the sky. The great thing was that you could sleep and wait for the aurora alarm to awaken you if/when the northern lights are visible. The rooms were very well furnished for their size and they included a little sitting area, kettle for tea or coffee, and televisions. Some rooms also had saunas in them. The front desk and reception area had an adjacent dining room. On the evening that we dined there, the menu consisted of an appetizer plate of lox, smoked salmon, smoked sausage, reindeer meat and reindeer chips, and white fish. This was followed by carrot soup, Arctic char, and chocolate cake served with berries and cheese. The food was quite good for dinner as well as for breakfast. They offered a simple but nicely presented buffet with eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries and breads, fruit, yogurt, cold cuts and cheese, and the same chocolate cake that we'd had for dinner. This was definitely a beautiful, romantic place that could be cozy and absolutely wonderful. Minus one star because our room was freezing when we checked in and the water in the shower got cold quickly and needed about 30 minutes to warm back up. It would've been helpful if they'd turned the heat on prior to our checking in. But, seeing a glimpse of the northern lights more than made up for this!…
Glassroof was great just heated and smelted snow away you can see whole sky. Room was great heated floom so good. I can recommended this. Restaurant was nice and so helpful staff. Check in was easy and fast.
Lovely little igloos. Transfer to and from saw airport was smooth. Coordination prior to arrival via email was very helpful. Reception was warm and very helpful. Breakfast in the morning had a good variety of items. Hot water for the showers and kettle for tea, coffee and cocoa. If arriving after the restaurant closes have snacks just in case however a gas station is down the road. Santa Claus village is a short walk about 10 minutes. Our room was just right for the 3 of us (husband and 7 year old). We couldn't figure out the TV or tablet (we also didn't ask for clarification) and we took advantage of no digital distraction to spend time as a family. There is WiFi throughout the resort which was helpful. No Northern Lights this trip - that's on mother nature. :-).
