there were several groups there when we stayed . the rooms are basic clean. The hotel is a bit out of the way and the food is not very good but the staff was friendly and the price was moderate for the rack rate we payed but the hotel was nice looking from the outside and we had good sleep.
After a sixteen year wait I eventually made it to Lapland with my niece and her 5 year old daughter. We did the 4 night stay and it was definitely the best choice. Hotel was great, we were given breakfast and evening meal and the choices were good. Room was very comfortable and staff very pleasant. We were glad we chose this hotel and not one in Rovaniemi itself as we really felt it made it a magical experience
Stayed here with my wife and little lad and really need to heap praise on the young TUI reps who couldn't do enough for us. The 2 elf's cloudberry and cranberry were bonkers and so lovely.hotel itself was clean and everything worked as you would hope albeit a little dated but that kinda added to the whole experience.food was pretty good to be fair plenty gooo choice and plenty of it.sweets just a little basic. Bar prices are high e.g lowest price bottle of wine 32 euro..... And the activities we booked through Tui are not particularly cheap so take plenty of money.its not half as cold as they make out either so don't worry about thermalling yourself up too much .taxis really expensive too so consider a hire car for a couple of days .would recommend the reindeer ride for anyone with kiddies…
We took our nearly 6 year old daughter to visit the snowy North where Santa lives for a 3 night trip. From start to finish it was brilliant. A lively festive flight at 6.30am... A dedicated elf guide who was great with the kids, sledging, snow mobiles and huskey rides. We met reindeer and of course met Santa. It wasn't cheap and we were slight hostages being 20 miles (or a one way 70 euro taxi ride to Rovaniemi), but you don't go there if you want to do it on the cheap. Tips - the hotel was really hot, so take tee shirts and jeans for the great indoors!
After months of researching we finally decided to book our lapland trip with tui at the winterwonderland hotel,(also known as bears lodge) mainly due to a personal recommendation from the previous year but also for location being close to santa village and santa park. Upon arrival at the check in desks at Manchester airport, the Christmas excitement started, with just the little touches of the barriers being wrapped in tinsel, the check in staff with santa hats on and the check in signs showing Santa Express!! The kids loved the flight, with Aunty Andrea entertaining them with a santa pack, balloon game, colouring competition and Christmas carols. Arrival at rovaniemi airport was smooth, pointed in the direction of transfer bus and away we went. The 35min transfer was again full of games and singing along with itinerary for the next 3 days. The information given by the "elf" was slightly different to information pack we received as we boarded the coach but no big issue!! There is a short stop off before the hotel to collect your snowsuits and boots. This was very well organised. Arrival at the hotel was magical. It was snowing and we were definitely in a winter wonderland. Cases and snow gear are brought from the coach up the slight hill to the hotel and left outside for you. I did hear a couple of complaints that they werent taken to your room but you do have to remember this is nit a 5* hotel!!! Welcome meeting was informative with reps obviously telling you about other excursions you can book but we decided to just do the taster sessions and see how we get on. Check in was supposed to be 4pm but they did start checking us in from 3. Rooms were as stated from other reviews, basic but clean and plenty of room for our family of 4. We had an amazing view over the frozen lake. We were left to do our own thing on arrival day so we unpacked then got into our gear and went sledging! The kids absolutely loved it!!! There are bum boards available at all times and in the morning the elves are there with sledges to share. Theres a tipi with fire where they did melted marshmallows and hit juice at 5.30pm. Dinner was lovely, especially the salmon. Kids options were great, although i dont have fussy kids. Drinks were expensive but i had read that. 40 euros for a bottle of wine and 4.50euro for a bottle of 7up. We had taken a couple bottles of wine for the room and snacks for the kids. Day 2 was just amazing! We got up had breakfast went sledging and were back outside the hotel doors for 9.45 ready for our tester sessions which were a 1 min walk down the hill from the hotel. First was snowmobiles. The kids were put in a sleigh pulled by the instructor and me and my husband were on one together. It lasted for 5 mins and was brilliant. We then walked over for the husky ride. This was just once around the field which was literally about a minute but a great experience. We then went to see 2 reindeers where we could stroke and feed them. Last part of the morning, we walked back up to the hotel to the tipi where we were given hot berry juice and gingerbread and given a talk by reindeer herder. Lunch was provided on this day then we were on the coach and headed to santa park. We were only given 2 and half hours here and did debate on staying until closing at 6 and getting taxi back but we managed to see Santa and only waited 15mins, went on the santa train, decorated gingerbread (inc with ur pass) went into the icevillage and had a drink at the icebar, graduated at elf school and made crafts. We then had dinner back at the hotel and continued our sledging. There is a snowclub downstairs where the elves do dancing and games with the kids and then we watched the wizard of oz panto.Day 3 was left free, so we decided to stay at the hotel as the kids said the favourite part was sledging. A day just in the snow playing, sledging, making snowmen and walking down the frozen lake really was special. Snowgear had to be handed back by 6pm, which ment no early morning sledging but no big issue. That evening was the gala dinner. This isnt a dressy occasion (as i found out!) Most people wore xmas jumpers. There are a few (1-2mins) of fireworks on the frozen lake. There was a quiz after the dinner but we needed our rest! Day 4 up and packed, breakfast and on the coach for 9am. Before heading to the airport we stopped off at santa village. This was a lovely place and we did a short reindeer ride which cost 64euros for 4, apparently a fraction of the hotel excursion cost. We only had 1 hour here so didnt get to see too much so i suppose if you did want to have longer you could do this on for free day. Then off the airport it was! This trip was truly magical and amazing, far better than i ever thought and i knew it would be good. The trip was all about the kids but we were blown away by it too and would definitely recommend to anyone.…
