The price, contrary to what others have said on here is fair, 2x 3.5hr flights alone aren't going to be cheap. The cost, obviously, racks up when there is 4 (2 adults, 2 children) going but that is obvious.

Lapland itself is amazing! All of the staff and elves that we encountered were so friendly and genuine. The snowsuit and boots that are supplied are excellent and upto the job of keeping you warm. The lunch at the place is perfectly acceptable, basic but appeals to all kids and most, reasonable, adults.

The amount of time at the Snow Village is tight and could do with being about an hour and a half longer, but I guess that would make the overall day (already quite long) even longer. That said, this gives a superb taster of Lapland.
A previous review states that there are no carols or Christmas decorations there and whilst true, I hadn't really noticed as the day for me, was all about snow and Lapland.

The skidoo ride out to see Father Christmas was unbelievable! I don't know what a previous review was going on about when it said that they were left standing 'at the side of a road'. These were all tracks through forests where no other vehicles (except skidoos) would be and it was slightly bumpy (the turbulence on the plane journey was worse) but no more than one would expect. Certainly nowhere near enough to make someone 'cry out in pain'!!!!!
The coach journey from the airport was excellent. The driver showing how driving in snow and ice can be done if you know what you're doing!

The only negative point on the whole day was the flights themselves. The crew were excellent but the seats are crammed in so tight and are wafer thin and if you get the passengers from hell behind (like we did), you feel EVERY TIME that they kick the seat back or rummage in the seat back pocket (which they did every few minutes), which made the flights horrendous.

All in all though, a superb day. I was really nervous after reading some of these negative reviews and in large, the actual day was nothing like they say.
I guess it all comes down to individual expectations, but we were left with nothing but amazing memories* (*except for the flights!)

I agree with many of the previous reviews, both positive and negative. It is expensive for what it is, the food it basic, the toilets are tiny, the rides don’t last long and the place to sled down is man made. However, my child loved every minute. Ok you aren’t there long but it was enough time to do everything at least once. The staff were great and lots for kids to do on the flights.
This is a temporary village, maybe if you want something more to do go to one of the others villages.
We were lucky enough to see the northern lights as we left so consider ourselves very fortunate.

Visited the snow village today on a Tui excursion! The whole day was magical and the children loved it! We enjoyed a taster snow mobile and husky ride. Went by snow mobile on a nice ride through the beautiful scenery to find Santa in his cabin (the presents were a bit naff but aren’t they always?) We were given hot berry juice at 3 different points, decorated gingerbread cookies, played in beautiful fluffy snow, went sledging down the sledge slope and my 14 and 4 year olds both loved it in equal measures! Hot chocolate and cakes in the restaurant were lovely too! Only drawbacks for me were the toilets are very small which was a nightmare trying to get a snowsuit off a 3 year old in a small space and then hold her on the toilet and the husky ride just wasn’t long enough but that’s me being extra picky so they still deserve 5 stars! I thought the amount of time for the excursion was perfect and the day was a Christmas dream come true! Definitely recommend!

Getting at Edinburgh airport at 5:00am leaving at 8:am arriving in Finland at 11:00 am
Getting on coach at 12:00pm (2:00 pm) Finland time left airport around 2:10pm getting to snow village around 2:40pm and being told to be back on the coach 5:45pm so we had 3 hrs to have fun. First thing we did was dog sled ride it lasted 45seconds I taped it so know how long it lasted and we were told only 1 ride was aloud. 2 min reindeer ride then had lunch , chicken nuggets , meatballs , chips, mashed potatoes ,bread and butter, coleslaw very basic nothing special. Granddaughter went on kids snowmobile 2 turns around a ten foot circle. Sledding down a 8 foot hill made by a bulldozer . Took snowmobile ride out to see Santa which was actually 2 min walk from from main area but the took you out ten minutes turned a ten minutes back to small shed to see Santa. We saw 1 elf there is no guidance around to show you around but I guess when you could fit the whole village into a football field really don’t need help. Paying £3000 with Covid tests for 3 hrs is pathetic would not recommend to anyone. There other laplands in Finland that look great just not this one.

Flight over - amazing, the crew went out of their way to make it feel festive. With games and good humour.
We arrived at Gatwick at 5am in morning and returned at 22:15pm - we got 3 hours in the snow village, the rest was travelling or at airports.
Snow village was a huge disappointment - no Christmas feel to it at all. Yes a forest full of trees and lanterns on the ground gave it a nice warm romantic feel but there was not one Christmas decoration or decorated tree anywhere, it had zero atmosphere. The huskie ride and reindeer ride last approx 2 mins each of that. The hill to go sledding down is actually a man made mound of snow about 7ft high and the kids skidoo is just a little circle they go round twice. Very underwhelmed with the place and wish we had picked somewhere else more festive.
Essentially we paid thousands to spend 12 hours travelling and waiting and have a little play in the snow.
Very disappointed at the lack of Christmas ‘feel’ and the amount of time spent there .... though tbf much more than 3 hours you’d prob be bored.

Second visit after 2019.
Due to covid, the Hotel is smaller and bar or restaurant closed or with a shorter opening hours.
The sculptures are great in each room but at the end the entrance price is very expensive. (19.- per adult, access only with covid pass).
A bit a touristic trap.

We really enjoyed our visit to the snow hotel, lots of rooms and beautiful snow sculptures to see. The kids had great fun up and down the ice slide and we enjoyed a blackcurrant vodka shot in the ice bar. It was a great experience to visit and see enroute to Levi.

I wanted to take my 7 year old to Lapland whilst she was able to appreciate the experience So booked the one day trip. I then read some of these reviews just before going and thought… oh!

However, whilst I can see what some people are saying I went and looked at the place through the eyes of my 7 year old and not the eyes of a 40 year old woman!! Yes In the eyes of a 40 year old there are things that could be better etc but when your daughter tells you “it’s the best day of my life” and “if I am dreaming don’t wake me up!” I think the experience was a massive success.

She loved it and I loved it with her.

From the airport gate the experience really started. I cannot fault anyone we had contact with throughout the whole day.

Yes it’s a long day but you know that before you go. We got 3.5 hours in the snow village which was plenty of time. We were not rushed to do anything and did all that we wanted. The sleigh ride and husky ride sure could have been longer, but it’s a taster and for little ones I think it was fine. The sledging hill is a mound of snow man made (there are no other hills so if they hadn’t of done that there would have been no sledging!?!) The age range of the main audience is going to be 4-11 ish and it was appropriate for them, it was also good fun for me and my 70 year old dad!!

Sleigh ride out to Santa was lovely, through the trees and snow, yep it was a bit bumpy but nothing uncomfortable and it’s out in the elements not a tarmac road!

My parting comment to those who may read this, go and see it as a child would, it is after all why most of us go isn’t it? For the children!

We did the Thomson day trip to Kattiia from Gatwick on 21 Dec 2013.

The question we are asked most is "Was it worth it?" And we have to give two replies:-

Answer 1: For the Magic of meeting Santa, deep in the woods in Lapland It was worth every penny.

Answer 2: For value for the money spent, No..

This leads to the other question... "Would we do it again?" and the answer to that is YES!! Although having taken our eight year old to see Santa, I doubt we will actually return again.

So what do you get for all that ££££ spent?

The outbound (3 hours for us) flight:
Everyone gets a really good hot breakfast
The children all get an activity pack that includes a Santa hat crayons and colouring tasks.
In flight colouring competition
In flight entertainment is the whole flight singing Christmas jingles, with some children on the intercoms led by the flight crews.

Airport:
Kittilia is a small airport
outside the airport building there is a big building 'maga-shed' where Thomson provide suitable clothes for all to wear.
Changing into clothes takes a good 30 to 45 minutes.
TIP - Make sure you get clothes that fit, after leaving the shed it is too late..

Coach
The 40 minute coach ride is uneventful on roads that are covered in snow.
Scenery is fantastic through the many many forests of snow clad pine/fir Christmas trees
On the coach we were given a piece of paper that had a map of the activities (below) but most importantly it had our meal time and our time to visit Santa.

The Ice (snow) hotel has 6 activities that you get to partake in.

1. Husky dog ride being pulled on a sleigh through the woods - Lasts about 5 minutes... Fantastic 5 out of 5

2. Reindeer Sled ride through the woods also takes about 5 minutes but is much slower than the dogs. 4 out of 5

3. Children's 'SkiDoo' bikes. Very mall track with small powered skidoos for the kids. 5 out of 5

4. Small snow slide..... It is a slide! 2 out of 5

5. Adult Skidoo bikes. Small children cannot ride these, but adults can.. 5 out of 5

6. Inside the Ice hotel is a slide made of Ice for the kids. 4 out of 5

Then of course you can go into the Ice hotel, it is fantastic to look at from both inside and outside. A good 30 minutes was spent looking around the Ice hotel.

Next to the Ice hotel is the restaurant, with an open fire. Here is where you eat your meal(s) at the prescribed time given on the coach. Food was fantastic and lots of hot chocolate too..

The most impressive part of the trip is the trip deep into the woods to visit Santa. At the prescribed time you get on your sled, that is pulled by an adult SkiDoo for a good 5 or six minutes into the forest.

When the Skidoo stops you are greeted by an Elf who takes you to an open fire where lashings of hot berry juice and gingerbread are being handed out... Children play in the snow and get warm by the open fire until they get to go into Santa's log cabin.

Inside the cabin..... yup, you can guess this bit :-)

Back on the skidoo to that activities after another berry juice and warm by the fire.

At the end of the day the coaches take you back to the airport, where you re visit the Mega-Shed leaving the winter clothes behind and cross back to the airport for th flight home.

Homeward Flight.
The flight home is started by some sales of Alcohol for the adults (very welcome) and followed by another good hot meal.
After this they dim the lights and everyone snoozes back to UK (less the crew of course).

So that is the day.

Hope that all helps..

Say hi to Santa from us... :-)

Booked this last January 2012 for the following December as a treat for grandchildren aged 6 and 3, and we certainly weren't disappointed. We left Bristol airport at 7 a.m. On the plane the children were given santa hats and fun packs to do, they also had a song sheet and carols were sung, every now and then sleigh bells were rung, even made us adults excited. On arriving at Kittila the scenery was truly beautiful, snow covered trees and landscape, we were taken to a large compound and kitted out with snowsuits, boots, hats and gloves, this was a bit manic, but very necessary for the temperature outside. It was -15 during daylight hours and plummeted to -23 after dark. We were then taken by bus to the snow village which was only 30 minutes away, the journey was very scenic, wild reindeers at the roadside, beautiful. The snow village itself, had plenty for the children to do, they loved especially loved the husky ride, you have an allotted time to see father christmas, but other than that you can do whatever you like in whatever order. To see father christmas we were taken by skidoo, through a beautiful snow covered forest, the path to the cabin was candlelit, and an elf greeted us, by now the children were speechless, when we did see father christmas it was exceptional, you weren't rushed, he took time to speak to the children, and we took as many photographs as we liked, they also had lovely presents. Only one family at a time was allowed into his cabin. When we got outside there was an elf who gave us a hot berry drink sitting around an open fire, truly magical. On getting back to the snow village it's up to you then to use your time as you like, Our little grandson had the time of his life, as he had never really experienced snow before, Inside the ice hotel, there are amazing bedrooms and sculptures, including ice furniture that you can sit on, and a magnificent ice chapel. There is also a slide made of ice inside the structure that our grandkids couldn't get enough of, they didn't want to come away from there. We then went to a traditional lap tepee and were told a story by a lapish shamen, bit creepy but enjoyable. The children had a go of decorating biscuits, which was great to warm up a bit. They also loved the toboggan ride, there is a little toboggan run for the kids outside. They didn't dry the mini skidoos as we had just seen another little boy take a really bad tumble off one. There is a souvenir shop, with very limited merchandise, they could make a killing if they had more stock there, but you are not ripped off. The meal was great, a good choice of food. It was a shame that we didn't have a longer stay. We had about four hours there, although after saying that it was nice to get back on a warm bus. On getting back to the airport we went to the same compound to change our clothes, we did hear a few people complain that they were disappointed, all I can say is, the trip is what you make of it, and it is what it is (for children), although we were five adults as well and we enjoyed it just as much as the kids did. Our grandchildren now say they have met the REAL FATHER CHRISTMAS. A TRULY MAGICAL WONDERFUL DAY. DO IT!!!!!!
