One of two hotels in Ivalo, on the main road but absolutely quiet. My room was renovated and equipped with everything I needed, including a hairdryer, fridge and TV (5 Finnish and 3 French channels, one of which is in English). The staff were friendly when spoken to. The breakfast was a bit monotonous for a one-week stay. You can also eat a la carte in the restaurant, which was absolutely fine considering the location (far above the Arctic Circle).

We left with TUI Marmara for this destination that we dreamed of for many years! Total change of scenery! The price to start with remains very correct compared to the services offered. What we liked was that from the cleaning to the buffet, everything is connected with the philosophy of the country, namely, living in connection with nature and preserving it. Meals are therefore very oriented towards local specialties and attention is paid to laundry ☺️. Activities are provided by the Club Nord. Passionate guides like William, Paoli, Marion, Melissa or Clementine will share with you their knowledge of the region, the country and the inhabitants. Night outings on snowshoes in the heart of unspoilt nature are recommended.
After a cold day (-27 to -33) back to the hotel where several lounges await you, bar with central fireplace or lounge with various board games. We had the chance to observe the Northern Lights, a unique moment that can be experienced from the frozen river behind the hotel. Finally, for fans, Club Nord offers snowshoes and cross-country skis for those who want to explore the surrounding wilderness.
In short for the regulars of large structures, we are not in luxury and overconsumption, here we pay attention to nature and this respect will often be reminded during the stay, a resetting of the clock that does not hurt.
A trip that is aimed at those who want to find themselves in a place on a human scale, without chichi, and close to nature.

We don’t put 5 stars because one of the waitresses who regularly took care of the room service was so unsympathetic that we found it a shame!

Otherwise we recommend 100%.

We stayed there 7 nights as part of an all-inclusive week stay with Marmara TUI.
We spent Christmas there with Santa Claus who came to neighbor.

The property is well located 10 min from the small city center on foot and 10 min from the airport.
And looking directly over the frozen river this Christmas season.
The temperatures were mild during our stay with at least 10 on average and zero degrees on the end of the stay.
The rooms are spacious with 2 single beds. Double beds do not exist in Finland.

On the kitchen side, we ate very well throughout the stay. It is a buffet formula with starters, dishes and desserts. Congratulations to the cooks!! We feasted every day!

The hotel staff was very attentive, pleasant, discreet and spoke a few words in French. Thank you for your professionalism!

And we had the chance to observe the Northern Lights in clear skies three nights in a row!

We have just returned from this pleasant family hotel and delighted with our stay. We had booked with Tui and Marmara and great. Activities included and if you want more you can add on by paying but you can discover everything in the package. Not negligible with Marmara, be careful to have the 20 drink coupons. Hotel located very close to the airport and excursions At most 30 min. Small town with souvenir shop and 2 supermarkets. The river behind the hotel is suitable for viewing the aurora when it is suitable. The food is very good, the choice limited but sufficient, be careful for children it will be more complicated. Perfect bedding, pleasant room and very good soundproofing. Shower products and shampoo provided. Separate men/women sauna but shared cool swimming pool.😉 Jacuzzi and private sauna €50. Cozy and friendly bar room with a fireplace. Restaurant room overlooking the river. In summary, great week, top facilitators. Thank you Élodie and Steven. Don't hesitate if you want to discover Finnish Lapland by letting yourself be guided, it's perfect and it's worth it. Ps even if the sunshine is there, the days are busy.

Second stay at Hotel Ivalo with the Marmara club. Once again, we had a very good stay. We were also lucky to have real Finnish winter weather with at least -20° every day and peaks at -24° and even -27°. The activities included allow you to have a good time (snowmobile outing and fruitful fishing this year with a pike, tobogganing in Saariselka on the longest track in Finland of 1300m and discovering Sami culture in Inari and its museum). William, our guide, was able to convey to us once again his passion for this astonishing country. Outings with supplement are organized with Club Nord (see reviews) and despite their price, they are really worth it when the conditions are optimal like the weather. The rooms are OK but could do with some updating like those on the second floor. The meals are of good quality. This year, Marmara focused on enhanced entertainment and we were not disappointed with Clem and Valou full of energy, originality and vitality. Thanks to them!
A few dawns also enhanced the stay. In short, another success!

Very pretty hotel, ideally located near the airport, opposite an ice rink and an indoor ice hockey stadium.

All shops are nearby.

The hotel is cozy with a small fireplace inside, the rooms are impeccable and some offer breathtaking views.

The jacuzzi sauna is unmissable (the jacuzzi is surrounded by windows overlooking the outside and the snow).

Immediate proximity to the icy stream where at night all guests gather to observe the Northern Lights 😍😍😍.

During the day, this icy watercourse is used for skiing and snowmobiles.

Very correct restoration.

Small souvenir shop inside.

Excellent hotel where we had a perfect stay for a week. The staff takes great care, some members even make the effort to speak French. Some people complained about redundancy in the meals. We completely disagree, the meals were very well thought out to satisfy everyone. We had the feeling that almost everything was homemade, varied every day, in short it was perfect. The hotel is very clean, well soundproofed in the rooms, the TV is functional despite the few channels but hey we were not on vacation in Lapland to spend time in front of the TV. A well-stocked games room and a very interesting location, close to the Ivalo shops on foot, the Ivalo river, the ice rink right opposite. In short, we recommend.

We stayed here on our way to North Cape and it was a comfortable overnight stay. We particularly appreciated the heated indoor pool and saunas. The buffet dinner and breakfast were both of a good standard and thought that the hotel represents good value for money..

Pulled into Ivalo Hotel at 1830 in a downpour and low 60’s. Two-story hotel with two legs going off in “U” shape. Our room was nice size with twin beds. No luggage racks so had to improvise with two tables. Nice size desk with lamp and sufficient electrical outlets. Bathroom was small and no place to put toiletries. Wall mounted
soap dispenser only. No hangers in closet. Basic necessities. We had a buffet dinner in the evening. The salad had lots of goodies and nice dressings. The bread was soft and fresh. Hot selection of broccoli (overcooked), scalloped potatoes, pork and salmon. All were excellent except for the overcooked broccoli.
Chocolate cake and either coffee or tea for dessert. I thought this was an excellent dinner.

A magical place: Hotel ideally located on the banks of the Ivalojoki River near the village of Ivalo, easily accessible on foot, offering a multitude of activities, each one more fantastic than the last: snowmobiles, ice skates, snowshoes, cross-country skis, arctic sauna, arctic games ice karting typical restaurant sled dogs nearby
Proximity to Inari with the reindeer farm and the Sámi museum of Saariselkä and its ski resort…
Hotel staff and attentive entertainers offering a very warm and friendly atmosphere 🥰 thank you to the entire entertainment team but also to the guides on site, you made our stay enchanting 😍
And when the northern lights are there on the last evening, this stay becomes magical 🤩

Yes we did, one day just behind the hotel. The hotel also organises aurora trips (about half an hour by car) to find the best aurora sights. Enjoy...
Answer from Harmonie

I have no glass ball to predict the aurora borealis... You definitely need a clear and starry night, but even then... You can find more information on the site of the Finnish Meteorological Institute: en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi Here is already some information from the Institute: There is two kind of Northern lights prediction: statistical and real-time ones. The former are based on a large amount of observations of Northern lights at different latitudes during several years. From these statistics we can say what is the probability of the occurrence of Northern lights during the course of year. According to the statistics compiled by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, four nights out of five are illuminated by Northern lights in Northern Lapland (Kilpisjärvi-Utsjoki area) providing that the sky is free enough from clouds. On the coast of the Arctic Ocean in North Norway (e.g. in Tromsö) one can see Northern lights almost every night. Even in South Finland, say Helsinki, one can see them but much more seldom; in Helsinki only one night out of 20. The latter predictions are based on a space-weather monitoring system either by ground-based devices or satellites watching the space-weather conditions around the Earth. When the monitoring devices (e.g., magnetometers or particle detectors in a satellite) show certain deviations from the normal situation, one can expect that a space weather storm is approaching in a few hours. The skill of real-time predictions is, unfortunately, rather low; we cannot make predictions for several days like forecasting normal weather. The reason for this shortcoming is that we do not fully understand the complicated processes, starting from the Sun and ending in the near-space of the Earth, involved in the cosmic ignition of the Northern lights. Therefore, more space-research is needed for better forecasts.
