Having booked a 4 night stay as a surprise for my wife our booking agent gave us a basic outline of what to expect. We arrived later on at night and thanks to covid restrictions the restaurant was closed. We were shown to our room which whilst basic was more than adequate for our needs. Within the room there was freshly made sandwiches, cake, fruit, bottled water along with access to tea and coffee via a help yourself basket located outside the room with a kettle, fridge and microwave in the room. No TV (brilliant change) good WiFi and reasonably quiet.
We had been given a good idea of what to expect from the restaurant by way of "typical" foodstuffs and we were not disappointed. Basic help yourself and we had no issues getting seated even although all mealtimes had to be staggered re covid restrictions. Basic tidying up after yourself a reasonable requirement with the staff on hand to replenish any empty dishes. We enjoyed all of the food on the menu and went away full, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Reception staff were on hand throughout to answer any questions and within 5 minutes of asking for extra pillows they were supplied with no issues. We had a full 3 days of amazing activities and all the guides were knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. The winter clothing that was supplied was clean and in great condition and believe me much needed with temperatures of sometimes - 27 with the windchill.
Most of the evening outings started at 19.30pm and lasted for about 2 hours so by the time we got back it was time just to chill out in the room. The main benefits for us included being miles from anywhere with the whole aim of experiencing the wonderful Northern Lights, which we did on our first evening trip out. Thanks to our guide we have photographs to prove this as our camera and our mobile phones couldn't pick anything out. Our outings were designed to cater for English speakers and we teamed up with another couple and a single holiday maker, giving us a lovely small more intimate experience.
Unfortunately due to covid19 restrictions no alcohol could be served after 17.00pm and the restaurant had to close at 20.00pm (it changed to 18.00 just before we left) but that did not really have an impact on us at all with the itinerary being altered to suit.
We had an absolutely unforgettable experience for all of the right reasons and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
We stayed between the 9th of January and the 13th and couldn't have asked for anything more.

Lovely staff. Really friendly and helpful.
The restaurant food was good comfort home cooked food.
Alcohol available. Bit expensive to be honest but that’s Finland overall.
The activities at the hotel are good fun. And there’s always some free time to stuff you want to try and equipment is always available to guests.
The only real downside for me were the accommodations. Now bare in mind that the hotel used to be a boarding school. The dorm room building has been refurbished, but the individual rooms....... the bathroom/wet room needs some attention to bring them up to a higher standard.
The beds are singles and only one pillow per bed.
Now to stay at this hotel for 4 Nights is not cheap. And not just me, but guests expect a bit kore for their money. So whilst I understand that money goes to the equipment needed and the upkeep of that, I think they now need to do some work on the guest quarters.
Would I go back again?
Yes I would.
The staff and atmosphere of the hotel and land around is amazing.
The people are warm and friendly.
Worth a visit.
Just hope the hotel updates its guest rooms soon.

Dear Guests, Thank you for your visit and feedback. Good to hear that you enjoyed your stay and even could possibly come back one day. Indeed you have noted that we have old buildings and it is true that with old buildings there is always something needing to be renovated. We have renovated already many and will continue more after the season but as we want to keep our prices reasonable, we cannot make all at once. But we will continue renovating! What a pity if you needed to have another pillow, if we had known, we would have given you an extra one of course. About pricing, do not want to use any excuses, but unfortunately, all costs are a bit higher in the middle of nowhere with long distance everywhere. We have made a decision to use and purchase local, Finnish, environmentally friendly or recycled items and ingredients when ever possible which seem to be more expensive. We have given up solo use goods and for example our towels in our rooms are compostable one way when they finally "retire". Foodwise we try to use local, small Finnish farm products and ingredients always when possible without going to the cheapest, like imported alternative. I also believe that our staff deserve reasonable salary for their work motivation but unfortunately also taxation, like VAT is high in Finland, even up to 24%. Yes, you are correct, unfortunately we are not the cheapest but we try to be one of the most sustainable one with motivated staff for our guests to enjoy well in a cosy sustainable and a friendly destination. Hopefully one day we can host you again! Best greetings from all Korpikartano team

Korpikartano is a real find – a funky, rustic, wilderness hotel full of loving warmth. I booked a ‘studio’ room in the main building, with ensuite shower and a minimal kitchenette to make tea and snacks, but also I booked ‘half-board’, given that the hotel is 35 km from the nearest restaurant or supermarket, and that I was attracted by the fact that Thursdays are vegetarian (the hosts assured me I could muddle through on the other days of my visit). The room was a bit cramped and… well, rustic. But the vegetarian dinner was excellent: Finnish home cooking at its best. Breakfasts were standard. The setting is lovely, with the lakeshore 50 m away and boats for use of the guests, a 2.5 km nature trail through the forest, and lovely scenery all around. Apart from the shower which nearly flooded the room due to my own incompetence, the only thing that was a disappointment was the rather soft mattress, especially after a day spent hiking. It’s a short drive into Lemmenjoki national park and close enough to Inari to be a base for visits there too.

We were in a group of six friends traveling to Finland. We came to experience the culture and hopefully see northern lights. We did multiple excursions including visiting with a reindeer herder and learning about his career and culture, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, sledding and husky safari. There was equipment to use if we wanted during down time. We saw northern lights in the second night. They were absolutely beautiful. The other three nights were cloudy. We understood they were not guaranteed but fully enjoyed the rest of the trip even if we hadn’t seen the lights. We stayed in their penthouse rooms. They had three separate bedrooms with two twins each. The beds were comfortable. One of the bedrooms also had a sectional that could be a third bed. We had Two shared bathrooms with showers and a large common area with a dining set, sectional, and chairs where we could gather. It worked perfectly for our group. WiFi was available in the room as well as common areas.

The host Juha made us feel welcome after our exhausting trip backbacking around the nearby national park. The free sauna was a perfect surprise after the cold and wet days in the forest.

The place, which used to be a boarding school, has been lovingly decorated into a cute wilderness hotel. While the rooms are quite understandably small, they were perfectly clean. The atmosphere is excuisite, with lovely details everywhere.

There are a plenty of freely available equipment for exploring the surrounding, bikes, canoes etc. We really liked the breakfast - while the selection might not be comparable to large chain hotels in the city centre, there was everything we needed, a good selection of cold and hot dishes.

The rooms lack a TV (although there's one available in the common room), but this is probably not the place to travel to, if You just want to watch BBC world locked into Your room. The hotel is right next to a lake (with a free fireplace hut on the beach), surrounded by Lappland nature.

After two weeks travelling through Norway, Sweden and northern Finland, this place was by far, the most memorable.

Superb hotel in beautiful, remote area of northern Finland beside a frozen lake with great chance of seeing the Northern lights (we were lucky enough to see them 3 nights in a row.) All staff were approachable, knowledgeable, friendly, kind and helpful; they helped to make the holiday extra special Thanks to Sophie and Marti who were our main guides and to the lovely cook whose food was delicious too. All outdoor equipment including skis, snowshoes, boots and thermal clothing was available to use. Highly recommended. An unforgettable holiday.

This was my first holiday in Finland and one of my best holidays ever.
The hotel is in Scandinavian style both inside and out. The rooms had a small kitchen, fridge, microwave, kettle and 2 hotplates. Private small bathroom with shower and toilet.
We had booked various activities, husky sleigh ride, snowmobile ride with ice fishing and another snowmobile ride under the northern lights, snowshoe hike. The staff, the guide and the manager of the house are all very nice and friendly. We received thermal clothing from the hotel for the entire stay. Snowshoes and cross-country skis were available for use the whole time. You could use the sauna for 1 hour a day, you just had to put your name on the list beforehand.
The food was super delicious. Even for my husband, who doesn't actually eat fish at home :-)
You could get tea and coffee from the tea/coffee kitchen at any time. We had booked a hotel transfer to and from Ivalo airport, which worked out really well.

We had a great room that was always warm and cozy after being out in the snow. The staff were fantastic and so helpful. The location is great and we really appreciated the insight into Finnish/Lappish culture.

The food was so good I think it may well be the highlight! Traditional hearty Finnish dishes. We travelled with The Aurora zone and they were extremely helpful.

we had a wonderful week's holiday at the Korpikartano Hotel!
The rooms are equipped with two single beds, which we put together without further ado. The bed linen, the bathroom and the rooms in general were very clean! The same goes for the rest of the hotel grounds (inside and outside).
In every building there is a sauna, which every room can book for 1 hour every day. The sauna itself must of course be switched on in good time. Booking the sauna every day was no problem and you had your privacy. The cleanliness was also very good - overall top!
The owner and the employees were very friendly, enjoyed talking to the guests and of course were happy to answer any questions. The two cooks cooked very well! There was a breakfast buffet in the morning, and 3 courses (starter, main course and dessert) at lunch and dinner, also in buffet form. The food was varied and tasty! There was nothing we didn't like :-) one day was "Veggy Day" - there were veggie dishes at lunch and dinner. Water and juice were always included to drink. Alcoholic and soft drinks had to be paid for separately. Coffee and tea were available 24 hours a day in the house and in the lounge.

Our day trips were all very well organized, started on time and the guides were in a good mood. We had a lot of fun!

The hotel had clothes to rent: socks and shoes, overalls, gloves, hats and scarves - theoretically you didn't have to bring anything yourself. The clothes were clean and are cleaned/washed after each guest.

The hotel also had snowshoes, sledges and cross-country skis that you could borrow at any time free of charge.

The hotel is beautifully situated on a lake that has a thick layer of ice in winter. On the other side is a forest with two walking paths, a cross-country ski trail (there is another on the lake) and some snowshoe trails. The lake and forest are used for all activities. The lake is also ideal for aurora observation.

We are super happy, had a wonderful week and would like to thank you very much for everything!

The biggest compliment I can give which should not be understated is that the staff here made everything so easy and relaxed for us. Interaction started and ended with transfers to and from Ivalo airport in a nice warm mini van then we were given our comfy and very warm clothing for the excursions and shown to our immaculate bedroom. Excursions were great and we saw some fantastic northern lights that I will never forget and also drove snow mobiles, sno showing and ice fishing. Mika and henna were great guides and the food was really good (limited choice but good quality) for someone like me who rarely experiences proper snow in the uk it was brilliant. I never felt too cold, unsafe or rushed.
