For a traveller not willing to spend money more than necessary, this is a good option. There are rooms on the main building at the railway sation, too, but I stayed in a three room flat on the other side of the street. Rooms are tidy and beds comfortable, with a shared bathroom and kitchen, and even a sauna. The hostel is situated in vicinity of harbour and city centre. A basic but quite sufficient breakfast with freshly baked bread is included in the price.
This hostel is good value of money and near to city center and harbor, you can just walk both. We stay 1 of 3 room flat and there was common kitchen, bathroom and sauna. Room and everything was clean. There was free parking Hostel customer (2-3 place) and breakfast include room price (69€). Breakfast was basic, nothing special but good!
I stayed in one of the rooms with shared bathroom. These rooms are not in the station building, but in a concrete apartment block across the street. Keys have to be picked up in the station cafe (watch the opening hours if you expect to arrive in the evening!). The room itself is very basic, mainly beds, a desk and a TV in a sobre room. But beds are good, so it is perfect for its purpose: sleeping. The shared bathroom is quite big and quite clean, but of course it also depends on the felllow travelers in the othe rooms. Plus: the bathroom has an adjacent sauna! Also there is a shared kitchen, which I didn't use but looked good and well stuffed. Breakfast is served in a breakfast room adjacent to the station cafe. The offer is small and basic (compared to other places in Finland), but sufficient. The staff at the cafe is friendly and helpful. Also the guest house offers a few free parking spots. And Kuopio's main square and museums are on walking distance. Also the hocvkey hall can be reached on foot. All in all it is a basic, but decently priced option, close to everything.…
It is a good choice in this prize category. Rooms are big and you can have up to 4 people to same room so it is good for the families. Street side room in the middle of building, not a single sound from trains heard. Staff is helpful and room booking handled well. Bar & Cafe Asema restaurant is in the same building, you can have e. g lunch and other refreshments. You can park your car to parking space beside the hostel. Remember to inform hotel about the car. If you want to park your car to garage, you can drive to main square underground parking, just some hundreds of meters away from the hostel. Prize was 11€/day. Breakfast is a little bit light but anyway you can start your day with that. Room door locks are 'old style', so you need to carry room key fob with you.
