Located at Puijonlaakso, a few kilometers from city center, bus stop is front of the hotel. Free parking and wifi. We stayed at economy room, own bathroom, no aircon or fridge. The room might be quite hot at summer. The reception is at third floor, the hotel is now days little bit rambling. Buffet style breakfast was served at the basement.

I chose this hotel for my stay as it was located quite close to the city center and had free parking. This time I also had my dog with me and they have some rooms for guests with pets. The service was friendly, the room was clean and really spacious and the breakfast was ok, too. The only downside was that the noise from the corridor could be heard too easily which did bother my dog.

I was there with my colleagues in june and I can say I enjoyed every minute because the hotel is placed very close to the forest!...I felt great there, "in the middle of the nature" and the weather was really nice at that time!...no rain, no strong winds!...just a little cold in the morning - outside, of course, because it was very pleasant to stay in the room - warm, pretty nice and cosy! I was really happy to see a very beautiful forest through my window! The hotel was clean and the staff was very kind and friendly! I liked the food, the restaurant and people were really very nice here, in this location!...there is a bus station, very close to the hotel and you could get to the city very easy...4 stations, if I remember well...I loved to stay there!...maybe because of the great hotel's location...or maybe because of the food - excellent food and impeccable serving!...this hotel wasn't my choice but I felt some kind of communion with nature there and I think seriously to visit Kuopio again but on my own and maybe to book a room at the same hotel...not because is "very beautiful" or something but just because it was a very nice experience staying there for a few days only!...I'd like to go there in a vacation and I hope to have the opportunity(again...) to see that great forest through my window from Best Western Hotel Savonia...and I'm not kidding at all!

That once was a large, middle class hotel. Now it's reduced to one floor (3rg floor). An independent restaurant resides in the first floor. There is no reception, only a small room in 3rd floor, most of the time not occupied. The breakfast is served in a bunker-like cellar. It's buffet also has been reduced. The room, I had, was large and spacious, but understanding the electrical wiring needs a technician. The tube in the bathroom needs a ladder to enter. Your privacy is obeyed closely. No personal has entered my room in the three days of my stay.

This hotel is located in a quiet area. There is a really big car park next to it. My room was comfortable and spacious. The bathroom had a large shower cubicle and room to put things down by the sink. All very clean. The breakfast area was spacious and quiet. The food was kept well topped up and there was a reasonable selection. The two people I spoke to on reception were both very nice and they made me feel very welcome.

We stayed for 2 nights while driving through Finland. The accommodation in the area was very expensive as it was peak season which is why we ended up booking this hotel. I had low expectations after reading other reviews... The room was fine. The bed was reasonable. The bathroom is a little like what i would imagine a camping block toilet to be but I don't go camping so I wouldn't know. It was clean which is the main thing! From when we checked in we could hear a dog barking and banging next door. We went out and came back late. In the morning the dog started again. The owners must of gone for breakfast. It was annoying but we didn't spend that much time in the room and we didn't hear it the next morning. If you're on a budget this is bearable for a few nights.

Such a lousy hotel. Rooms are old and ugly, shower was broken, rooms very noisy. I specifically asked for a quiet room in my booking and they put me right next to fire door and elevator. Nice! It was not possible to change room later. Good thing was breakfast and amazing outdoor possibilities nearby.

Hotel is run by the local education consortium (Savonia).
As build 1975 the current upgrading work reasonable even though the hotel was few years ago clean. Now the rooms has been done and the rooms are excellent from floor to cealing, new beds ... The restaurant will be back in service after summer - as there is separate breakfast room you cat back to road or so with reasonable good finnish hotel breakfast.

This hotel was a bit of a mixed bag, but generally did the job quite well. It is the only hotel that's very close to the university and that was a major factor in me choosing it. The best thing about it was the breakfast and the quite atmosphere. Wireless internet was free. The bed was comfortable and the room was pretty large. One oddity about the room was that the walls were basically made of large blocks/bricks that were just painted. This gave the room a very basic, spartan feel. There was nothing exciting about this hotel, but it had everything that I needed.

All the major hotels in Kuopio were fully booked and had to take a room away from the city centre. The best part of the experience was definitely the helpful and kind service personnel in the reception. This evening it was staffed by a local student and he’ll go far with that attitude. The hotel is situated about 10 min from the railway station, and the entrance can be a little tricky if you don’t follow the signs. It’s a bit old and maybe worn out, but the room itself was spotless with crisp clean linen. All the basic necessities were in the room. On the negative we can find the lack of a restaurant for the evening, but the nearby shopping centre provides for this loss. The breakfast room was quaint and very well stocked with fresh ingredients. All in all I had a pleasant stay. Value for money which is why I rate this as 4/5

The name of the restaurant is the same as the hotel, so it's Ravintola Savonia. There's better options in Kuopio unless you're looking for a place to arrange a party or if you're staying in the hotel.
