I spent one night here last minute, and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. I was given a three bed room to myself right opposite a bathroom which was very handy. The rooms are basic with free wifi and flat screen tv....but they are kept very clean!

For 35€ for one night in a 4 dorms/bedroom I would expect more than what we had.
I received a message around 4pm which tell me the password to enter in the building and told me where was my key and my receipt. So I though that no one would be at the reception when i will arrive. But there was someone ! When we arrived we presented ourselves and the receptionist seemed to do not care. We asked some advices about the activities which appeared to be wrong (thanks for the gain of time...). Kitchen broken and bathroom dirty.
Too expensive for what we had. Will not come back unfortunately.
Wifi free but slow.

We spent two nights in Hermanni Hostel and were satisfied. The rooms are clean and as it is situated outside the center (10-15 minutes walk) it is a quiet calm place. The shared bathrooms are clean as well. The kitchen is big and well equipped, just as the common room. The girl at the reception was welcoming and eager to give us information and advice. The price is in the average for this kind of accommodation.
Very nice stay here.
P.S for those traveling in winter, do not miss a walk on the frozen lake just a few minutes from the hostel

We spent 5 nights in April 2012. Rooms good size although beds were not super comfy. Kitchen areas well equipped and very clean, bathrooms very clean with good hot showers. Free wifi and helpful staff. Highly recommended for an inexpensive stay in Kuopio.

I don't know if this is the case always, but when I was there, there were drunk and disturbing people from Estonia and a good gallery of otherwise weird people. Then the hostel itself, the browser was in Russian and the computer worked all in all poorly, text was lagging. Wifi worked some time, some time it did not work. The shower is built in such manner that the water makes a big pool on the restroom floor. Most people do not bother to wipe it. There were only two bowls in the kitchen. Hostel was clean, though, and the hostel keeper was friendly and helpful. Not only did the Estonians try to pick fight in the morning, they were really loud at night.

Staff do not speak English as stated on website. No staff onsite at any time. Arrived to find drunk men in common area who verbally and physically harrased me. On notifying staff was told it's not their problem and I should stay in my room.
