After a week, 7 nights at Möhkön Rajakartano I feel really sad but also happy to face leaving this place. It has been a real treat! I could say so many things, but let´s take the most important ones: the overall atmosphere, the hospitality and kindness of the owners, the breakfast! The Sauna! The river! The border zone that I was lucky to visit with a local guide, on his boat and then enjoying a heavy duty walk to the beautiful and untouched surroundings in a dreamy landscape in between Finland and Russia! A special permission is needed. The droppings after a bear on the road to the village nearby. Coming home to my suite at Möhkön Rajakartano after the days experiencing the easternmost village in Finland, Möhkö, has been a real joy. The breakfast I would love to recommend: oat porridge, homemaid dessert cream made on berries the hosts pick up in the woods near by, fresh blueberries on top of that, the traditional Carelian pasties Elvi bakes in the kitchen in the main building, salmon etc according to season I am sure but what ever you get here, is delicious, and prepared with love and care. There is nothing artificial around here. I have stayed in many beautiful hotels around the world including Tokyo, Sao Paolo but still, this is one of the most memorable stays ever, very homey, a kind of rustic boutique hotel Carelian style. I can imagine staying here in wintertime must be magic, if one loves skiing, the nature and the tranquility, it must be unbeatable. Be prepared to meet yourself. As to sights of Möhkö, besides of the nature, it is all about the Second World War, all the marks after battles, and soldiers who lost their lives, the victories and the losses. It kind of gives the village and Möhkön Rajakartano an epic atmosphere. I stayed in the suite on the upper floor in the main building, with an electric sauna, and if you stay a week or longer, you get 40 % discount to the prices including a chance to enjoy the traditional sauna by the river. If you are not into preparing your dinners by yourself, please talk to the owners and maybe they can arrange also dinner on a daily basis for your stay. I highly recommend this place for anyone loving a special treat. Easiest way to get to Möhkö is to take a flight to Joensuu, and then rent a car and get lost in serenity of the Carelian landscape. If you do not have a car, picking up you at the airport can certainly be arranged one way or another. It is my picture after a week at Möhkön Rajakartano that pretty much everything is possible to arrange, according to your needs (but noise and stress). Would love to stay here for a month, writing and thinking, walking and talking in a good company!

A peaceful and quiet stay in "middle of notthing". The rooms are different sizes, our was for four persons. The staff/ owners was very friendly and helpfull. Our room was equipped with "mini" kitchen - micro, coffeemaker, deepfryer? and fridge, two bedrooms, tv, own bathroom and toilet. There supposed to be free Wi-Fi - not found... A car park was free and had electricity for aux. heating. Mealplan should be prebooked as breakfast (15€/person€/day) also.

This family run holiday resort was perfect for me. While I like to get out into the countryside in Finland, I tend not to do so very often because many summer cottages have only the most basic facilities. This place was spot on for my needs. Each self-contained apartment was fully equipped and very comfortable indeed. They are ideal to rent with a group of friends. The location is very remote, excellent for country hiking. The resort also has a very traditional smoke sauna and is a short walk from the local town.
Catering deserves a special mention as every meal was outstanding! All of the Finnish delicacies were served - bear, raindeer, salmon, you name it, we had it. Definitely a real treat after a long hike. I will probably have another holiday there, for the food above anything else!

I have stayed at Rajakartano multiple times and it feels like relaxation therapy everytime again. The location at the river is gorgeous and the savusauna (traditional Finnish smoke sauna) is probably the best in Finland. I really got to know the Finnish way of enjoying summer. Also in winter the frozen river offers a beautiful scenery.
Further, the Karelian food in Rajakartona is delicious and the Karjalan Piirakka is the best of Finland. Jorma and Elvi who run the hotel are great hosts and lovely people; a big thank you to them!

Had a great time enjoying the great sauna's, bbq's, long walks, and nature, nature, nature (am a biologist so was important part for me). Great place to relax and it felt as if going to a spa/nature trip the way it's supposed to be. Good food, nature, sauna's and hospitality without being pretentious. The owners made the place into something you feel like coming home to. Without a doubt a place I can recommend to anyone in need of some great experiences.
