Owners PC and Mariska Ferreira are passionate........about their guests who are made to feel comfortable, relaxed and part of the family. About providing gourmet fare from Mariska's kitchen. About beautifully appointed and comfortable bedrooms, each different and equipped with fans, aircon, kettles etc. About service where nothing is too much trouble. Room was big and clean. Only had issues with shower. Shower nozzle wasn't working well. Shower drainage was blocked. Beautiful property with swimming pool and trampoline. Working farm and nature reserve near by so lots of animals to see. Dinner and breakfast was good. Enjoyed seeing the friendship between the dogs and the blesbokkie

The first time we stayed over was 9 years ago. The owners have made various good changes and additions to the guest house. Hanover is in the middle between Johannesburg and Cape Town, therefore a well positioned stay over. The guesthouse offer a tranquil Karoo environment and PC (the owner) will take you on a variety of drives on the...

We have used this as a half way stopover since 2011 and have seen the growth of this establishment over the years. We have slept in the log cabin, the old house, the tent and got the last two years, the renovated stables. We like the latter the most as we are a family of four. We always take both...

I spent a drizzly night here in route between Johannesburg and Franschoek. Around 7 hours from jhb, very convenient midway stop. Lodge is some way off the N1 on a good gravel road through the vast emptiness of the magnificent Karoo with its ever changing light and colouring. PC and Marisha run a well organised operation. Cute, old fashioned lodgings...

Fantastic experience. A beautiful setting, with very welcoming host and hostess, with excellent food. Also a lovely pool to cool down in. We were enchanted by the baby buck which the owners are hand-rearing. We also liked selecting our own bottle of wine from the cellar. Adults, teenagers and 11-year old loved it.

We started visiting as a stop over and it's now become our final holiday destination. It's unbeatable in the Karoo. From when you arrive PC, Mariska and their four daughters make you feel at home. There's even an honesty bar. The rooms are super comfortable and very well equipped. There's even a luxury tent option which is great for families....

Thank you for the amazing stay! Such a beautiful house, friendly people and family atmosphere. I'm blessed to have made this great experience. The trip to the hippos on the pickup car was as amazing as the food. Thanks a lot for everything!

This was our third stay at New Holme and we have become accustomed to the warm welcome and good food with which P.C. and Marisca always awaits us. What a pleasure to be staying in a safe environment with a pleasant garden in the middle of the Karoo. There are plentiful bird species around and it sounds so much better...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Karoo Gariep conservancy (10,000 ha) for the Karoo Hippo is between Colesberg and Hanover. We are 8 km of the N1 highway and perfectly between Cape Town and Johannesburg, also halfway between Upington (Kalahari) and PE (Garden Route); this make us the perfect halfway break in South Africa. We pay special attention to nature and the outdoors. You can explore the central Karoo using us as a basis, we have the Sea Caw Vally Meander which connects New Bethesda to Hanover and Colesberg by dirt road. These roads can be enjoyed by car as well as on mountain bike. Tourist friendly establishments are listed and work together in a communal afford. Our activities include early morning birding drives, horse riding, stargazing from our star deck, hippo drives, Koi etchings, mountain bike trails and more. There are three lodges on the conservancy to choose from. Mieliefontein, with Ian and Elma, New Holme with P.C. and Marisca are our self catering lodge Wolmado (managed by Elma) New Holme and Mieliefontein are 4 star and a pleasure to stay in. We offer good "Plaas kos" 3 course dinners. The meals are an experience and are recommended. We promote a 2 to 3 night stay to get a more complete experience of our beautiful Karoo. ... more   less
