My 13 year old grandson and I stayed here on our first night in Denmark. We wanted to be close to the Viking Boat Museum. The room was adequate, but beware: NO AIR CONDITIONING! It was too hot for my liking. Reception staff was very friendly and welcoming. Out of all our Scandic Hotel stays on this trip, the food lay out at Roskilde was the best. We did not speak Danish nor know how to read Danish so the English translation at the various breakfast stations were very helpful. The breakfast room was a little warm. Granted, it was warm outside.
Only stayed 1 night, but the service was great and the food equal so. Would not mind staying there again. Got some time to explore the city and the staff was very helpful in showing me points of interest and walking routes
We stayed here during mid june for a few days and its a great location. Its located right next to a park and roughly a 15minute walk from the train station. There is no AC in the rooms but atleast the room we stayed at, there was a large window that could be opened and the room cooled down pretty quickly. It was around 22c in roskilde when we were there. The elevator is dated and quite spooky.
A little bit pricey but a very nice hotel with friendly staff. Good storage for my bicycle and excellent breakfast. Comfortable room with a nice view. The restaurant had closed but there were snacks to buy in reception
We were extremely dissatisfied at the Receptions hospitality service. We were given a Go Dream gift card by a friend that we decided to use at Scandic Roskilde. The gift card was simple and stated clearly that it was an overnight stay with a 2 course dinner. On arrival we were handled by a woman at the reception who insisted we were offered the option of only wine or the 2 course dinner at the time of booking. This was not the case at all and our gift card clearly stated the 2 course dinner. The woman at reception actually said she manually changed it to accommodate our needs and told us she has our credit card details in file and once she double checks with the team at go dream on Monday she will proceed accordingly. It looked like she didnt trust what we said - for a 2 course dinner - than a bottle of wine?? Terrible hospitality service. The chefs 2 course dinner was a steak with fries and vegetables. Our order was taken where we said we would prefer the steak to be rare and the other medium rare. The steak was as dry as a cardboard and extremely overdone to which we were told they couldn't make any changes as this was cut from a larger portion that has been in the oven. We couldn't eat it lest our jaws fall out. However, our compliments to the chef for his excellent treatment of the vegetables which were delicious. We were asked how our dinner went - and we honestly pointed at the dry meat that we just couldn't eat. We were shocked that the chef could actually pass this for a guest! This is when the woman at the restaurant really lifted our mood as she saw this was certainly not fair and offered us another refreshment along with our dessert. Its a shame given that Roskilde is a fishing village and we could not see that reflected in the menu. We really wished we just ate outside the hotel in Roskilde. Are we going to stay at this hotel again? definitely not. This hotel shouldn't depend on Gift Card bookings if they cant offer a standard quality service to all their customers. …
Breakfast - there is lots of pressure to go out of the room exactly at 10am; chairs and floor with bread; rooms apparently are only cleaned if you ask. staff not very friendly, unless in checkin and checkout.
Ok, I need to be objective here and admit our own failing in this drama. We had our room booked by a danish friend who mistakenly booked the wrong date 10 days later. On arrival we were greeted by a customer service guy who I could hardly hear, let alone understand even though he was speaking English and he gave us the news about the dates. He asked if he should shift the booking to the date when we were there. Of course I said yes!! He then advised we needed to pay an extra 60% from what we had pre paid. In his defence, he was polite and courteous but we thought that this was a massive jump and elected to leave and find somewhere else. (1600kr was a big hit!) I asked for a refund, only to be told that the 8 day cancellation policy did not apply any more because the booking had been transferred from 10 days in advance to that night. I was starting to get cranky, and asked for the manager. She appeared and restated the company policy. We were asking to strike a deal, but possibly get the night stay for what we had already paid. It was not until I offered to write a less than complimentary review, did she slip in that she would make an exception and honour the price as she would not give a refund. We found this whole process disappointing but we do acknowledge the following: 1) original problem was from the booking date. 2)the problem was eventually sorted to our satisfaction. 3 that we became “ugly Australians” and not how I carry myself normally. 4) this does NOT reflect poorly on any other staff at the bar and restaurant, they were fantastic, However the service from the lobby staff was really frustrating. *There was obviously a room available because we ended up staying. * The cancellation date was changed from 8 days in advance and to that night. Remember the mistaken booking was made for the 14th not the 4th so originally we had plenty of time to cancel before they transferred the booking. I’m now sure he knew what he was doing and put us in a position where we had no choice. Anyway, the manager sorted it without any apology so I waited these few days before writing this review. The hotel itself is old and needs another lift as people were waiting a lot from what I could see from the bar. Rooms are dated, small, but functional and clean, probably not worth 1000kr let alone 1600kr!! The bar and restaurant staff were terrific and my steak was cooked to perfection. We won’t be back.…
A tired hotel with a ”why would I care attitude”. Rooms nothing special. Food on a bad cantine level except for the price. The staff let’s you wait until you get tired and go searching for them. Staying here is no guarantee that you can eat here. They don’t flex at all and eating in the bar is apparently reserved only for locals who don’t care about rules. The only thing on Scandic level are the prices.
This hotel is in URGENT need for renovation! The door of the room did not close properly, so the light from the hallway came in the whole night. The so-called Junior Suite is an insult, it is very small and uncomfortable. The sofa is not comfortable at all, and made of cheap polyester, worse than IKEA furniture! Besides, the TV in the room with the sofa was much smaller than the TV in the bedroom, which is completely useless! Hotel did NOT honor the 10% discount of the food for Scandic Members, despite I showed my card to the person at the restaurant (and the reception should know anyway!!!) and I am still waiting for the refund!
Nice staff and Room. Food and vine was ok. I would stay there on my next vacation. I felt like home from the start. The receptionist and bartender was very nive and pro. Look forward to come back. David :)
