Unbelievably rude staff. Billed as a ‘spa hotel’ but spa closed most of the time ‘because there’s no demand for it’. I complained and their first response was “if you don’t like it go somewhere else.” Staff non-responsive to requests, rooms filthy. Never again.
Let me be clear: I LOVE Guldsmeden Hotels. And have stayed at Axel Guldsmeden several times. But NOT anymore. Never again in fact.

This neighbourhood is home to Tivoli Gardens, a world famous amusement park and beautiful garden always worth a visit. Just west of Tivoli, you’ll find Copenhagen Central Station, from where you can reach just about every part of Denmark within 5 or 6 hours, or you can reach Copenhagen Airport in less than 15 minutes. Next to the Central Station, you’re in the middle of “old” Vesterbro, where several cultures and
hundreds of languages are spoken in an area not more than one square mile. This neighbourhood is considered one of the most trendy places to live in and to visit in Copenhagen. For a real treat, visit Kødbyen ("meat town"), home to several restaurants, cafés and nightclubs, all within a short walk of each other.

No, it’s a wonderful hotel. I too was very unsure about the mixed reviews. It’s a block away from the main train station so it’s very easy if you are coming to Copenhagen by train. The train station area in large cities is always a little seedy but I did not have any problems coming and going (as a single female traveler) on my own at all times of the day or night. However, if you do go left out of the hotel you do end up quickly in an area I didn’t feel comfortable in (hookers, drug dealing, and mentally unstable people hanging around) but I would not let that stop you staying here. You will spend all of your time going in the opposite direction so you won’t have to deal with this at all. As for the noise that people report. I specifically asked for a quite room and was give a room in their other building that was absolutely lovely and quiet. It didn’t have a view, but it was so peaceful (and I had the window open all night as it was so warm). The room also had a portable fan. The people who worked here were all warm and friendly. I would not hesitate to stay here again!
