We decided to stay in the Sofia hotel before travelling to our accommodation. We arrived at the Heraklion airport just before midnight. We hired a car and the hotel is less than 10 minutes drive from the airport. There is a car park.
We arrived to a friendly greeting, a welcome drink and Creten music being played live by the receptionist brother and friends! Plenty of parking... clean, quiet, restaurant open long hours and great breakfast included! Highly recommend!
Convenient, affordable, honest hotel with good amenities and very friendly staff; five minutes from the airport. Proximity to the airport means noisy overhead airplanes but slept well with the patio door closed and the air conditioner on. Free breakfast and coffee bar was a nice...More

The ancient site of Knossos is well worth a visit and can be accessed from the main bus station by local bus, there are also museums, galleries and old churches that are worth a visit. The town centre of Heraklion is packed with shops and some malls just ask at your hotel reception. You will find English spoken practically everywhere and judging by the clarity of your question you should be fine. The Cretan people are warm, welcoming, cultured and very helpful so have a wonderful time!
