Domes Zeen Chania, A Luxury Collection Resort in Crete, is celebrated for its comfortable, well-appointed rooms with private pools, although some guests mention noise and wear. The service is generally lauded for its friendliness, but the efficiency dips at mealtimes. While the resort's amenities and cleanliness receive high marks, the entertainment options and gym facilities sometimes disappoint.
The location's proximity to Chania is a plus, despite some signage issues. Visitors often find the tranquil atmosphere pleasant, though the ambiance can feel subdued, and many note the resort's prices as steep.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel rooms are really tastefully designed and our two children loved the outdoor plunge pool. We stayed for 7 nights quite soon after the reopening in July 2020, it was a welcome break after months of lockdown. The cleaning standards were of a high standard and we felt safe. The only downside to our stay was the service experienced in the restaurant. It took so long to receive our food, which was a shame because the food was of a high standard when it did actually arrive. The waiters were always pleasant but for some reason the food just took a very long time to arrive. Around the pool during the day it was always difficult to order drinks and you almost felt like you were bothering the staff if you had to call them over. You had to try and catch one of the waiters from the restaurant, it would be ideal to have someone assigned to looking after the many guests sat around the pool area. It was explained to us that because of the Covid situation the mini bar in the room was empty, which was fine, although trying to get room service was virtually impossible. One evening my daughter needed some water, I called reception after the room service extension just did not answer the phone and I was promised some water would arrive. After 40 minutes and still no water they said they would chase it up when I called back, but it just never arrived. The issue with room service also impacted how often we stayed and use the plunge pool, it was a sun trap on the terrace and it would have been so nice to sit and enjoy the outdoor space with a drink but unfortunately this just wasn't an option. If they could just get the service up to the same standard of the design, it would be an amazing place.

I had originally planned on spending two nights at Domes Zeen and two nights at Dones Noruz but the latter did not open following the Covid-19 lockdown. As a result, I spent four wonderful nights at Domes Zeen.
Originally opened as part of Thomas Cook’s Casa Cook luxury brand, the hotel became a Luxury Collection property after Thomas Cook’s collapse. It is primarily positioned as a family resort, with a kid’s club. It also has a decently sized outdoor gym.
The hotel is located a mere 15-minute walk from Chania’s old town, easily walkable along the waterfront (and a very enjoyable walk it is too).
I received a very warm welcome on arrival and the staff tried their best to accommodate my early check in request. I have to say, that the staff throughout the hotel have been exceptional! The front desk, the concierge, the restaurant staff... friendly, helpful, efficient, and very much go out of their way to make everything as perfect as possible. When I first got to my room, there was a minor leak from the ceiling (the island was experiencing a few days of the heaviest rain on record), and they immediately got an engineer in and had me in a new room in no time.
I got upgraded to a room with a private plunge pool which was a fantastic treat. The rooms are spacious with floor to ceiling windows along two sides. The bed was very comfortable and there was a large sofa along the end of the room. The bathroom had a big walk in shower, double vanity sink, and a separate toilet. The content of the fridge was complimentary and there were also complimentary tea and coffee facilities. Complimentary bathroom amenities were by Byredo (Le Chemin).
The pool area had two sun lounges as well as a lounge chair and an outdoor sofa area.
Dining is limited to two restaurants; the Beach House, open everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Enino, open on certain evenings in the week with a degustation menu. The Beach House did a great job in updating their menu often, especially at breakfast.
Breakfast itself was fantastic - served a la carte, the “Day Start” includes a wonderful selection of cheeses, cured meats, freshly baked breads and pastries as well hot drinks. Then there is the option for eggs cooked to order, along with various sides including cooked food and cold dishes such as chia bowls, granola and yoghurt etc. Everything was always fresh and delicious.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the hotel. The staff absolutely made my stay a very memorable one, and I felt well looked after! Highly recommended!

We just got back from a week at the Domes Zeen and had the most lovely time. The covid restrictions are being dealt with really well and it felt really safe. Having to book a table for dinner / breakfast was the only real compromise (we like to go with the flow on holiday) but it meant they could plan numbers and keep everyone safe. It's a small, intimate resort with lovely facilities and a great layout.
One of the best things about the resort is the food. We ate in the Beach House restaurant which is right next to the pool and every meal was fabulous. The meals were fresh, of very high quality, and expertly cooked. We had beautiful cuts of lamb, steak, cured meats, and calamari and the moussaka was the best I have ever had. The desserts were also amazing.
The staff at the resort are really great. They couldn't do enough for us the entire time. Our daughter had a birthday on our last day, and over the course of the day they presented her with 2 (yes 2!) birthday cakes, and while we were at dinner they decorated our room with balloons, banners and party hats. They even bought her a gift and wrote a birthday card for her. They even offered us the chance to go for dinner in the town, complementary, with a car both ways. But the restaurant was so good there was no need, and with Covid it just felt better to stay put.
One thing I would say about the service is that things weren't as slick as they could be. You could tell it was a new team (either following the lockdown or because of the recent takeover). Individually the staff were fantastic but sometimes the lack of organisation showed. Often when phoning to make a reservation for dinner there was nobody to take the call which meant calling back (one day we tried 4 times to make a reservation). One night we got our bread after we had finished our main course. And the buggy to collect us to check out was just late enough to stress me out a bit! But even over the course of the week things were getting slicker and the service was much better. I'm sure the covid restrictions have disrupted them too.
The only other issue (and the only reason we didn't score a 5/5) is the lack of aircon. The rooms are advertised as having aircon, but they don't. Its climate control which doesn't really cool the room very well, only to a minimum of 22 degrees, and relies on a fan which is loud and makes it hard to sleep as it feels like a gale force wind. However, when we mentioned this they really tried hard to make it better - and even offered us an upgrade to one of the beautiful villas.
Overall - we would definitely really recommend this resort, especially during the current covid uncertainty.

Everything at Domes Zeen was perfect for us! All the staff were amazing firstly - all of them made such effort to make us feel special throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they helped us to plan different trips and recommend places to visit -even helping my husband plan a surprise birthday cruise on our last day! The restaurant was great and the food delicious for every meal we had; lots of great choice and different dishes to try each evening! And the sommelier was brilliant at recommending perfect wines for each dish. We also tried 2 of the tasting evenings and had a fantastic time at both, the waitress was very knowledgeable and made a really fun evening for us - even making us try the local raki! The hotel itself was beautiful and we loved the minimal design. Our room was huge and the private garden and pool was so relaxing and romantic. The main pool and beach areas were brilliant too, and the loungers really comfy with lots of fresh towels every day! And the button to order drinks to your bed was a nice touch too! We had an excellent honeymoon here and will definitely be booking another trip back here as soon as we can! Leaving this resort at the end of our honeymoon was very hard, but we can't recommend it enough and would give more stars if we could!

Stop #2 on my two week Greece trip: the beautiful Domes Zeen Chania in Crete. Second Domes Luxury Collection property during this trip and again phenomenal service. Very different vibe from Domes Miramare, Corfu as this is a family/kid friendly resort but with the private style suites even those traveling without kids can enjoy the experience.
Outstanding, personalized check in - although first time I had to sign multiple pages of T&Cs at a hotel. Even the concierge joked it was like buying a property. Sophia, the guest manager, was phenomenal and was on top of everything - down to ensuring we had breakfast boxes to go in prep for our early flight on departure day and making a reservation at a great harbor front restaurant last minute since the on site restaurant, Enino, was undergoing renovations. (Even though my Marriott Ambassador confirmed a dinner reservation a couple of weeks ago)
Design of rooms might not be for everyone but I loved it. Very modern including the black tile pool which is not too common.
I didn’t use the main pool since it was full of kids but got to the beach early and had a great day on the beach and swimming in the sea…the pool bar staff are just a button away for drinks and snacks.
The Haute Living room wasn’t as nice as Domes Miramare which had its own pool, sea access, and lounge area but the Living Room here offered small drinks and snacks. Helpful when you’re heading in or out of the hotel as it’s in the lobby which is a nice little workout depending on your room location.
Breakfast was served by the pool and offered a very nice selection of Greek and international foods.
I’d definitely come back again - so much to see on this big island!

The resort is beautifully situated near the city centre of Chania, There is a gigantic pool that sits across from the bar and behind this is the main restaurant. Perhaps uniquely, on the other side of the pool is the beach not 20 meters away. There are sun loungers all around the pool and there are more by the sea, just a short walk away. The rooms are very large and the beds are big and comfortable. The aircon is very effective and there is a small private area for guests to sit in front of their villas. Some of the villas come with tiny private pools as well. Be patient with the television as the channels take a little bit to load, presumably from the central server.
The people working at Domes Zeen were remarkably kind, despite working incredibly long shifts. We were seeing the same people working the morning shift and night shifts, which means they were on their feet in excess of 14 hours. Despite this, we were met with such cheerfulness and hospitality.
This was true of starting our day with breakfast, the two ladies who greeted guests for the meal (whose names, to my shame, I cannot recall), the restaurant manager who made an effort to converse with the infants and keep them entertained, the waitstaff etc.
This was also true of the front desk staff who solved all our problems, and recommended restaurants and tourist sites. Konstantinos, a Chania native, told us his favourite seafood restaurants in the town which were amazing experiences we wouldn't have found on our own.
The poolside bar had very knowledgable staff, it was quite an experience to speak to Konstnatinos about cocktails and travel plans. The way he spoke to us made us feel as though we had been friends for a long time. He stayed beyond his regular shift to help us.
The people who cleaned our rooms were a very sweet bunch as well.
Given our experience with all the staff it was very painful to leave when our vacation ended.
Problems:
It would be great if there was an orientation or some sort of introduction, was a bit difficult to know where things were and the facilities available.
We had a problem with noise in the room, the karts would run over the drainage grates which made a fairly loud noise from 6am to 12am which was quite disruptive.
The lunch service was not organised, it took about two hours for us to finish as many courses. There were simply not enough people working between the busier breakfast and dinner courses and this made service a bit problematic.

We (parents with a 4yo child and a baby) stayed three nights right after the reopening (because of Covid19) in a beautiful room with its own private pool.
In its second season the resort already changed ownership to the Domes Resorts. While already a beautiful resort with uniquely designed buildings the new owner seems to keep investing in missing finishing touches of the surrounding.
The kitchen is excellent with great breakfast and dinner and has a very good choice of wines (we only tried the Greek ones, which were great).
The beaches nearby are beautiful. There is a sandy beach with pebbles right in front of the hotel and a very nice long sandy beach (without pebbles) to the left. Also in walking distance is the beautiful old town of Chania.
The kids club wasn't finished when we arrived, so you might want to double check before you book. Also the service needs to improve to match the high standard of the rest of the resort. We have informed the hotel manager separately about it and I'm confident they will considerate it.

Dear Mr Creonity, We would like to thank you for your time sharing your feedback about your stay in Domes Zeen Chania, a Luxury Collection! We are really glad that you enjoyed both breakfast and dinner at our Beach House Restaurant. Our vast wine label variety is Greek/Cretan oriented as we would like our guests to experience a unique culinary journey to the greek tastes. As you have already stated and we could not agree more, the area of Chania is full of monuments and sights and especially the Old Town of Chania is a pictursque place of its own. As far as the Kids Club is concerned, kindly note that due the New Normality, guidelines from the State were about to implemented at that time and our Kids Club opened few days later using the outdoor area, where all the activities take place. From all the staff of Domes Zeen Chania, we thank you for your review and we really hope to welcoming you soon again!

This was such a disappointing holiday with TUI half board. Not worth the expensive price we paid for one week as a couple. Chania is a beautiful place and that is why we booked this holiday 30 mins walk away. We were moved from the first bungalow which faced a brick wall for the garden view and was on the ground floor. Pillows and cushions were soiled and mosquito plugs do not fit properly in limited wall sockets. We reported immediately to Sophia Guest Relations and TUI online as no rep available here. Matters were rectified. Very dark interior with dark toilet. Difficult to see face and hair in mirror due to extremely poor lighting.
Moved on second day to sea view bungalow which was complimentary. Ceiling fan and WiFi not working so engineers fixed the problem quickly. Banged and bruised our legs numerous times on sharp corners of wooden bed bases and chair. Bedside lamps dangle down low and we had to tie them up. Definitely a safety hazard for young children. Only one chair again in living room so had to ask for another instead of sitting on bed.
Balcony drain in wrong place so after three days of rain had to sit with feet in puddles of water as wooden furniture too heavy and dangerous due to large concrete bases.
Food was mostly good but drinks were extortionate prices. Still water with evening meal charged 6 euros per night and a bottle of average wine 40 euros plus. We were sorry we paid for half board as would have preferred to eat out at all the lovely local restaurants which were very reasonably priced. Entertainment was non existent while we were there. No atmosphere to cheer you up but very polite, helpful staff.
Sophia tried her best to rectify the housekeeping problems and also gave us one complimentary room
service meal on a very stormy night after we were told we would have to pay in full for our three course meal which was included with half board. This would have amounted to around 90 - 100 euros otherwise. We didn’t ask for room service again!
For the first time ever on holidays all over the world, we did not use the swimming pool which had dark tiles making it look very uninviting. It was mainly for the children and babies as quite shallow. There were plenty of loungers with towels but we decided not to spend time onsite during the day due to the bar prices and lack of entertainment and activities. Also, due to the noise from the local powered paragliders!
We notice this place gets good reviews and that is why we booked it but it was a big mistake for us and we wished we could have been moved elsewhere but after looking online at our options this probably would have been difficult to accomplish with TUI.

Everything in this resort is designed to make you happy starting from the exotic smell at the reception (by the way, you can buy this exclusive scented oil and candle from the hotel shop). The rooms, service, food, amenities, super friendly staff and facilities are all purposed to pamper you and giving you the time of your life. I have never seen such a friendly, professional, welcoming staff like I have seen in this hotel. The hotel is located around 20 mins walk from the old city but I preferred to take a taxi (which costs around 8 euro) because the walk is only on the beachside which might be a bit hazardous at night.
I highly recommend this resort for couples and families.

A beautifully designed one year old hotel in an amazing location. Stayed here for five nights with my family. Certainly not a cheap option but worth every penny. The staff are ever so friendly. All were amazing but special mention goes out to Sofia and Panos from the restaurant who made out stay particularly memorable. The rooms are very well designed and contain everything you need and the beds are ever so comfortable although beware the end edges of the bed frame because they are sharp and can be lethal! The private pool we had was refreshing and ideal for an early morning or late night dip. The main area is located down towards the beach. This is where the restaurant and main pool are located. The pool is stunning and a wonderful temperature and as for the restaurant despite COVID restrictions with staff in masks, etc., the quality of the food and the service was impeccable. There is also a beach area with seats and umbrellas set up just a few metres away. The public beach is a little bit scruffy I suppose it could be argued but the water is so clear and warm so it is well worth a regular visit. Overall my family and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and we would certainly consider visiting again.
