While I enjoyed my five-day stay at the Hotel Metropolis, it is not for everyone. I also had the added advantage of traveling alone. But I had some trouble finding it from the Metro station (see my notes at the end of the review) and none of the locals I asked had heard of it, which concerned me a bit....

We stayed in the Family Room (with the Acropolis View) for 4 Nights in August 2016; the hotel itself is located close to everything a tourist would want to be near in Athens. The guys at the front desk were so so so helpful with organising taxis for us from and to the airport and to any landmarks we wanted...

For the price I paid the hotel was clean and breakfast while in a tight cramped area was ok. Their staff are really great and friendly and the showers are small but amazing. The location is great, however for a few dollars more I stayed in a more spacious higher end hotel nearby during my last visit (chose to save...

We chose to stay here because of the location, a 10-15 minute walk to the Acropolis, 5 minutes to the market and a 10 minute walk to the train station. The view of the Acropolis from the hotel is perfect and breakfast is served on the roof so a great photo opporunity! Even if you did not choose the breakfast...

This joint is Nasty and the staff is RUDE to a fault. They are well over priced for the Slum that it is. I would not ever stay there again or recommend to anyone. There ares so many lovely hotels in this area with equally great views of the Acropolis and so much cheaper and cleaner than this dive.

The hotel is right next to Monastraki and Plaka. The Table of Zeus is 11 minutes walk and the Central market is 8 minutes away. The Hotel is good, clean and basic. We used to use it as base camp. Get up freshen up and step out for breakfast. (Upteem options). Come back and leave for our trip to one...

The best for its location, breakfast is cheap with a good view of acropolis and most important of all very near to flea market. Staff are friendly and helpful. The room is clean and they are also willing to store our luggages when we are away for 5 days to the islands.

The room was good, the view from the breakfast room was amazing, who wouldn't want to look at the Acropolis over coffee. A family run hotel, met both the father and the son, couldn't have been more helpful.

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
