The hotel is conveniently located near a metro station: easy and frequent connections from/to Athens airport, the Acropolis, Syntagma Square and known city landmarks. Rooms are clean, comfortable with excellent noise reduction from city traffic; the entire staff is very friendly, welcoming and ready to go the extra mile to please hotel guests. Breakfast is international with a wide choice...

I can honestly say the room is not bad, cleanliness its ok, towels changed every day, helpful staff. We were staying in the main street side, which could be noise, ask to be changed to a different room, and we were moved to a more quite place, very pleased. I thoroughly enjoyed myself not only in Greece but at this hotel. It was quite boutiqueish which I like so I had no major complaints. The buffet breakfast was pretty basic but descent and the restaurant upstairs had a very nice view of Acropolis. The only negative was that they put two small beds together to make one bed. That...

The Polis Grand Hotel is very convenient, close to Omonoia metro station. With the station behind, facing in to the square you turn left, left at the first set of lights then second block down on the left. I was told by the police "to be very careful walking around the area". Just be aware as in any large city....

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
