The owner is a crook. Don't every stay here. I could go on and on about our experiences here. I can't believe that it was reviewed in Time Out Athens a couple years ago. Rooms are small. No elevator. Breakfast is a joke. Overpriced.

To start on a positive note, the young people who work here were great and helpful, the owner not so much. It also has a great location in Monisteriki, not far from the underground station. The negatives however far outweighed the positives. I stayed here for four days in winter in which the heat was only turned on for two...

My wife and i stayed at Fivos for 18 nights for the 2004 olympics. The hotel was a tradegy. Luckily we had our good friends there to help us laugh about all the problems we had. I will say that the staff there at the time of our stay were excellent. They helped us all they could much to the...

In 2004 we booked a double room with bathroom by telephone giving credit card details to guarantee the reservation. On arrival not only was there no bathroom but we were alocated a triple room with the staff intending to include a third unknown person in the room. Furthermore we paid on checking out and later our credit card account was...

We had booked a few nights at this hotel. Or - it is more a hostel standard. We got a room on the top floor, there was only a light bulb hanging in the ceiling as our only light source, the A/C didn't work, the bathroom dirty, the cord to the refrigator was mended with ducktape. Worst was that the...

We were given a double room on the 5th floor. No elevator. Had to walk up stairs with heavy luggages by ourselves. And, we didn't know why there were no lights in the corridor on our floor. The bathroom inside the room was not clean. There was a big window near the bathing place WITHOUT any curtains. It made greet...

I don't agree with the previous opinions: in fact I would like to recommend Fivos Hotel: first of all for the amazing location, you are in Monastiraky, near the metro stop that connects Piraeus, airport and the other interesting places of Athens. The Fivos is near Plaka, Parthenon and the centre of Athens. You could go everywhere easily by foot....

In addition to the negative comments made by June's travellers on this site, we would like to add two new comments : 1) the odor of sewage coming up through the sink in the bathroom 2) no hot water Probably the worse place in Athens.

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
