This was a basic budget hotel, but it was great for our needs. In a city like Athens you are so busy out seeing the sites that you don't spend much time in your hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights and it was great. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was simple but great to...

I stayed here for 4 nights. The thin lady with long dark hair at reception is incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are average, no bunks which is a plus, all single beds. The rooms are quite warm during the day and the street noise is quite loud but if you're an experienced backpacker, you will always have a pair...

Look into air b and b as you can't expect much from hostels in Athens. If this is the cheapest/best location you can get, well it is safe. Athens as a city is full of history, ruins and definitely worth seeing for a weekend, but also has graffiti and homelessness. The hostel was safe. They locked the door at 10pm...

The location of Fivos Hotel is perfect, walking distance to everything! I didn't have to take any form of transportation staying there, just the metro to/from the airport. The hotel itself isn't anything special though. Security is minimal, breakfast is minimal and is a very quite accommodation for those looking to meet other travellers. Although I had a positive experience...

Very helpfully staff, thanks to a guy, who were at last 3 nights. ;-) Rooms are not very elegance, my room looking old, but it's clean and it's everyday cleaning. If u need room to sleep and take a shower, and if u need be close to Acropolis, and u needn't luxury - it's a place for u. It's q...

I stayed one night because my original hotel canceled my room. The location is right at the bottom of Acropolis and is easily accessible by the direct subway line from the airport. However, the Monastiriki area can get seedy at night. The hostel room was spacious but dingy with an on odor and soft well used mattress. You just want...

First of all, this hotel/hostel is in a great location, next to Monastiraki subway station and square. We took the train form the airport and walked only a couple minutes to the hotel. Walk a couple minutes done the street and you are at Monastiraki square, which is near the flea market as well as not too far walking distance...

I stayed 4 nights in this Athenian hostel. Most people are dissapointed because they were expecting a hotel when this is clearly a hostel. I stayed at many hostels and Fivos is one of the best because of their breakfast which offers a wide variety. The rooms are not very big but the one I booked had its own bathroom...

I did not book this hotel. I had made a reservation in another hotel nearby and that hotel moved my reservation to this dump. The room had more than one crushed cockroach killed on the wall that hadn't been cleaned off. Classy joint with high relief art on the wall. Avoid at all cost. The hotel didn't have any soap...

We came across Fivos Hotel because our hotel was overbooked and they had reserved a "same quality room" in Fivos Hotel "to make us happy" - didn't work at all. To be fair I just describe what I have seen and don't compare it to the hotel we had originally booked. I think Fivos is more like a cheap hostel...

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
