I just returned from one night at the hotel...I have to say I was pleasantly surprised in more ways that one... - great location... 5 mins from Acropolis, metro station, restaurants, ice cream shops, plaka, Hadrian's Arch & Temple of Zeus... if you like to walk, even Syntagma and Monistiraki is easily walkable..this is definitely the best part about the...

My boyfriend and I stayed here in Aug 09. Unfortunately several items went missing from our room whilst we were here. However I do not blame the current staff for this, I think it was more opportunist from another party, or that our room was not properly locked. (though the door locks when you shut it.) The hotel manager and...

As other have mentioned this hotel is in a fantastic location. The new Acropolis museum is just around the corner and the Acropolis a short walk up the hill. The Plaka district is close by and there are a variety of good restaurants within walking distance. The metro is also easily reached making this a good place to base yourself...

We chose this hotel based on previous reviews. We found the hotel dirtier than expected . There was no roof top terrace as was advertised. The elevators are so small that they are a risk for the claustrophobic! Carpet in room was dirty. Beds were European firm but usable. TV had such a low sound volume as to be unusable....

This hotel has a perfect location. 2 blocks from the subway and 1 block from the plaka. The room wasn't the greatest but that was more than offset by the friendliness of the staff and the great breakfast they had which was included in the room rate. The room was like any hotel that had been build many years ago,...

Surprisingly quiet, large rooms. Very clean. The hot water is a bit variable, the juice at breakfast should be avoided at all costs. The beds could use an upgrade. Balconies are quite and comfortable, but do not look out over the sights. We loved this hotel, but we are 2 and 3 stars devotees. Highly recommended.

The Airotel Parthenon is fantastically located, literally seconds away from the Acropolis and Parthenon, and in the trendy Plaka neighbourhood with great restaurants nearby. The hotel and rooms are clean, fairly spacious, well-lit and attractive, and service is very good. Great value for your money. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Athens.

We chose this hotel due to the location and price. Very pleasantly surprised when we finally arrived. The taxi driver had problems due to the fact that the area around the hotel is a one-way system, and also the Plaka district is right on the doorstep, which is full of extremely narrow, winding streets. But as the hotel is one...

I agree with many of the reviewers - the hotel rooms are not great. It claims four stars but would rate no better than three. The beds are not comfortable and the rooms are not very big. However, it has some good things going for it. The breakfast is ok apart from the juice which is horrible - it seems...

The hotel is in a good location although hard to find if you don't know where you're going. We took the bus from the airport to Syntagma square and NO TAXI WOULD TAKE US TO THE HOTEL. We asked 5 different cab drivers. So on the 6th try we had the driver take us to the top of the Acropolis...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
