Hera Hotel is a great choice for staying in Athens. It's in a great location; just a short walk to the Acropolis and the Plaka area. It's a very safe area and very easy to get to. The rooftop restaurant has a beautiful view of the Acropolis. It's very picturesque for a night time dinner. The rooms are a decent...

This hotel is in a great location. We arrived early morning off a long-haul flight, easily left our bags at the hotel and then explored Athens for the day before checking in mid-afternoon. In this time we took in the Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Zeus and had a nice lunch in a local restaurant. We then enjoyed dinner and drinks...

This is a higher end hotel in a great location - across from the Acropolis museum, a block from Acropoli Metro Station and 2 blocks from the Plaka. The rooms are well appointed with modern amenities - free wi-fi. The top floor restaurant/bar is very pleasant but pricey. There are many more reasonable food & beverage options within two blocks...

We stayed at the Hera for two nights. The rooms and bathrooms were beautiful, quiet, and very comfortable. We loved the rooftop bar and enjoyed the delicious breakfast buffet. We paid extra for an upper floor with a view, but we weren't in the room long enough to enjoy it -- plus we had the same great view from the...

Stayed for 2 nights at Hera Hotel and found it to be a fantastic option. It is based a few minutes walk from Akropoli Metro stop and is not difficult to find. I also found the area to be quite safe. We stayed in the cheapest room available (economy room) and it was fine. The bathroom is spacious and modern,...

A good hotel with a great location, right at end of the street full of restaurants and shopping places, we took a room with an Acropolis view, it was quite OK, though we didn't benefit enough from the view, but the restaurant on top "Peacock" is worth a visit, great wine, good dishes and a good view of the Acropolis.

We stayed at the Hera several times during our recent 2-week visit -- it was our "home base" between touring Athens, the Peloponnese, and the islands. It is in an excellent location -- quick walk to the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, Plaka, metro station and good restaurants. There is a view of the Acropolis from the very good rooftop restaurant,...

This hotel is located just a few blocks from the Acropolis museum and even closer to the metro station. Easy walk to the Acropolis, the Plaka and many more points of interest. The rooms are impeccably clean with nice furnishings. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe even at night on the street leading to the hotel as...

We arrived early (7am) after a night flight from Spain and the two gentleman at the desk went out of their way to get a room cleaned for us so that we could get in early, shower and sleep so that we could maximize our time in Athens. The room was quiet and the beds very comfortable and the patio...

Spent 6 nights at the Hera Hotel on our first trip to Athens, and it was great. Location is quite convenient for most of the archeological sites and museums in Athens- about a 15 minute walk to the Acropolis Museum and about 20 minutes to the Acropolis, and about 10 minutes to the Temple of Olympus Zeus and the National...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
