I've stayed at Dryades/Orion a few times over the past few years and it deserves all its high ratings. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and there is a great view of the Acropolis from the roof, as well as a kitchen guests can use. On Saturdays, there is a large open air...

Two hotels connected- we stayed in the Dryades part of the Orion. Ground floor room had a large area. Friendly manager. Make sure you ask the taxi driver to drop off at the front door... hard to find in a side street. DON'T take the stairs if you are walking from the bus stops. Back packers should be fine. It...

Loved this hotel in a quiet but quirky area of Athens. It was really nicely furnished and decorated and the bathroom was all newly equipped. Enjoyed the breakfast overlooking the Acropolis, but at 10.00am it was already a bit hot on the balcony. The area was close to the National Archeological Museum and also had a number of interesting bars...

I booked this hotel for a citytrip with friends. We wanted a simple and cheap hotel at walking distance of the city centre with bars and shops. This turned out to be the right spot. Clean hotel with airco. Shower was Great, but turned into a bath as there was an issue with the shower drain. Very friendly staff and...

Booked at the last minute and glad I did. Staff were friendly and informative. The room was in good nick, with a balcony just big enough for two to sit in the sun, and a powerful shower in the bathroom. The roof top area had a great view of Athens and the Parthenon. At breakfast they'll make you eggs to...

Staying in Exarchia

Neighbourhood Profile
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
