Close to Acropolis and the Plaka market. This is a clean well serviced hotel. The service is excellent. John is very attentive and friendly doorman. He was excellent in letting us know about the overcharging by Taxi drivers.

I can't say anything bad about this place. It's spotless everywhere! The view of the Acropolis from the rooftop restaurant is stunning, something you have only ever seen in a book right before your eyes! There is a good choice at breakfast, the only criticism being there is only one 2 slice toaster so there was always a queue. As...

We only stayed in this hotel for two nights, and we wish we could have stayed longer. It's well located, you can walk everywhere from here or take the subway. There are restaurants nearby, the views from the roof top are amazing. The room is beautiful and clean. The breakfast which is included was also good. The area for breakfast...

We had a wonderful four-night stay at the Athens Gate Hotel with a beautiful view of the Zeus Temple from our hotel room. The hotel is centrally located within about a 150 m walk to the Acropolis metro station and the new Acropolis Museum. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly! A wide variety of excellent choice of breakfast...

You cannot beat the location! Quick walk to everything and hop on bus is right at the door step. What makes this hotel beyond...

This was a great place to start off our Grecian adventure. The staff was very helpful and we loved the rooftop bar with a view of the Parthenon. It was hot so we mixed in walking and cabs to get around the city. Our room didn't have a view but we weren't there to be in the room! I would...

short but well chosen menu for the rooftoop bar restaurant which has the very best view over Athens better than any other hotel. We had delicious white Greek wine served with a selection of nuts - you have to go for the view

Perfect location in Athens if you want to get around on foot. The rooms are a little small but perfectly clean. The restaurant has lovely views and breakfast is quite good. However, we had two rooms with balconies at the front of the hotel and by the end of our stay I was sick to death of the constant traffic...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
